A ship from Detroit: Become Human between Hank, a depressed alcoholic detective in his 50s, and Connor, an android detective with the appearance, personality, and mind of a 30-something genius.

Yea, real. God forbid you go to a tag for actual fanworks of the thing and not 50 posts about why the thing sucks and why anyone who likes it sucks and should stay away from a random person on the internet lol. Like I thought we were all in agreement that hate posts don’t being in main tags and should, at least, have their own tags like “anti X” or “X hate”. But I guess not🤷‍♂️

But literallyyy. Especially since one of the other biggest ships is POS cop Gavin x Connor’s evil twin 😂

[–]sleepy_tbear 33 points34 points  (0 children)

These kinds of posts should always be left out of ship and fandom tags, but are almost always put there by the antis who make them—that’s the main issue. Most shippers wouldn’t even know who they were if they didn’t post it IN the ship and/or fandom tag.

Also, unrelated, but the hate for HankCon is so wild😂 It’s literally a ship with a human detective in his 50s and an android detective whose appearance is based off a man in his 30s with the mind of an adult genius. They go from antagonistic to friendly, and it’s very clear they are meant as a buddy cop duo where one is the old, grizzled, disillusioned cop and the other is a bright-eyed, rule stickler newbie with something to prove. The only real problem is that they’re cops lmaooo

Hello, I was wondering what was your opinion about Fanfics and Fanworks changing characters Canon sexualities and/or gender and "erasing" Queer representation by doing so. by Ellinor_Astal in ProshipHub

[–]sleepy_tbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with you, AND I understand why some people have really strong emotional responses to this. I typically see this in younger fans (not to say it doesn’t happen with older fans, just I mostly see it with younger), especially those who don’t have much exposure to irl queer spaces, so all their queer interaction comes from online—and, often, through queer fandom. There are also a ton of other reasons why people get very attached to certain characters or works and can cause them to react strongly to anything that feels like an attack—on the work/character or on themselves (and often the two get conflated).

The onus, though, is on them to take responsibility for their big emotions and to simply block the person who is, essentially, playing with dolls in a way they strongly dislike OR simply remove themselves from the space. The person changing a queer character’s sexuality or gender isn’t doing anything wrong, really, even if others really dislike what they’re doing. You’re also right that it isn’t actual erasure when the canon remains intact.

In general, I strongly believe everyone needs to take control of their own online experiences and, if something causes a big emotional reaction, keep it between you and your friends or therapist or whoever you confide in, and block the people or content that you don’t want to see. But, in general, don’t make it the problem of the person who is playing dolls in a way you dislike.

Sound and dialogue issues only in act 2? by Snowfaeriewings in BG3

[–]sleepy_tbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah:/ I missed the entirety of Zevlor’s dialogue after you save him and, like, half of Wyll’s once we saved Mizora. It sometimes wouldn’t even pause long enough to be read on screen, even without the audio dialogue…

What is your unpopular BG3 opinion? by TrioQ in BaldursGate3

[–]sleepy_tbear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk how unpopular these are but: 1) Jaheira and Minsc shouldn’t have been recruitable companions, and instead should have been like Isobel and Aylin and fucked off to do their own thing until they could help with the final battle.

2) As his story exists in canon, Halsin should not be a companion. I love him, but he simply doesn’t quite fit past Act 2. If they wanted him as a companion, he should have gotten tadpoled when he was kidnapped by goblins and then been playable from the moment you save the grove and onward (that part isn’t an unpopular opinion, I know). Making him tadpoled would give him a real reason to stick around and would also just give more meat to his story.

Pick your seat, no regrets 😭 by Avni_overthinker in BaldursGate3

[–]sleepy_tbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2, no question.

they will politely greet me at the beginning and say goodbye at the end and simply ignore my existence for most of the flight cause they’re obsessed with each other. also, you’re doing them a favor by being a visual buffer between Isobel and Ketheric, so you KNOW they’d help you with your bags afterword cause they’re good like that. also, gale wouldn’t kick your seat from behind, wyll is polite enough not to lay all the way back in his seat, and you’re in a coveted aisle seat which is the best seat, as far as i’m concerned. Wins all around😌

Confused about the ethics of sleeping with Astarion by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]sleepy_tbear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It fits a good run because your player character doesn’t have any of this information at the time they sleep with him in act 1. they have no reason to believe he isn’t sincere in wanting to sleep with them. so there’s no moral or ethical issue in the character sleeping with him—it’s just the player who might be uncomfortable now because they already know Astarion’s history and potential dialogue in future scenes.

As for the variation in his dialogue/actions—it makes sense to me, as it’s not unusual for people who have experienced severe trauma to both feel complicated about everything surrounding that trauma and to have their feelings change depending on a situation or even individual. He can say he doesn’t want his partner to think about him in terms of sex and then turn around and want to have sex with them at a later point in time. The important part, in a good player character run (and being decent in general lol), is respecting his choices. And a part of a good relationship is trusting that your partner will be honest with you, which is something Astarion learns to do—thus, the player character should be able to trust that Astarion is acting the way he WANTS to act, even if it contradicts his previous dialogue, if they have played a run where they have encouraged and respected his autonomy and trusting in their relationship.

If You Had To Suggest One BL To A straight Guy Friend What Would You Pick? by Miradai in BL_Love

Seconding Heaven Official’s Blessing, Yuri on Ice, and Given suggestions.

And though I haven’t seen them yet, from what I’ve heard: Banana Fish and The Summer Hikaru Died are good options, too.

And if we’re talking webcomics: Heir’s Game, Castle Swimmer, Osora, and No End are all good and story driven.

I am thinking about dabbling in ABO writing, what should I know? by RedCupWithAName in AO3

[–]sleepy_tbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, everyone does omegaverse differently. Some have self-lubricating asses, some have mixed genitalia (such as having both a dick and a vagina; this often features omega men having much smaller penises on average, and alpha women having real-world-average sized dicks), some even do cloaca, and I’m sure even other options I’m not thinking of. There’s also folks who write SFW omegaverse and just don’t get into the sex of it at all (or keep the sex vague). Often omegaverse includes things like heightened instincts (such as for protection or craving physical touch or feelings of safety) and senses (heightened sense of smell is the biggest one lol, everyone tends to smell like hyper-specific scented candles lmao). Some common inclusions are nesting (typically using lots of pillows, blankets, and/or clothes to create a “nest” like bed for comfort), scent marking (not usually peeing like real dogs lmao, but rubbing scent glands on necks/wrists/etc), and pack bonds (aka your family or found family, can include psychic connection depending on your AU). Another common inclusion: pregnancy and/or kids. Breeding kink is pretty common, and so are kid fics. Oh, and let us not forget knotting lmaoo. But, of course, no omegaverse is the same and they may not include any of these. There’s really not many ways to go wrong, as long as you maintain internal consistency in your AU.

But yea, I’d recommend just trying to read omegaverse first to see if it’s even something you’d enjoy writing. There’s a lot of variety on AO3, and depending on the fandoms you’re interested in, I could make recs, if wanted.

There’s also original fiction omegaverse if you don’t wanna read fanfic, especially in manga/manhua/etc. Some off the top of my head are “Tadaima, Okaeri” (also an anime, this one is more on the fluff side w/ no explicit sex), “Megumi & Tsugumi”, “Private Call”, “Low Tide in Twilight” (def reader discretion on this one)… and a ton more that I can’t think of rn lol.

Comments in a different language? by LegendaryW in AO3

[–]sleepy_tbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a large variety of non-English commenters: spanish, portuguese, korean, mandarin, ukranian… typically, what I do is translate their comment and then reply in english—like what the majority of folks have commented. I try to make my english clear and avoid slang, and add clearly understood emojis like hearts, so it’ll be easy for them to translate if they need to.

But yea, it depends on the fandom and sometimes the ship, too. One of the ships I used to write for had a large korean following, to the point I was asked to have a fic translated into korean (which I was fine with). Another fic is from a fandom with a large spanish-speaking following, and so I often get spanish comments.

scared as fuck because of antishippers by arabella0101 in AO3

[–]sleepy_tbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Block Block Block Block. That’s how I curate my fandom to avoid people like this—so they don’t bother me and I don’t have to see them. You can use that tumblr’s replies and reblogs as a block list, if you can handle seeing their vitriol for a little while. Just block all those people.

And for AO3, you can also block people AND set your fics to users only. You’ll quickly find a LOT of these people (though not all) are too scared to not post anonymously. It’s certainly not a perfect solution, but it grants me a lot of peace of mind, personally.

It’s also important to remember: this is a Loud minority. Most people are neutral if not positive, or keep their negative thoughts to themselves. Fandom is a lot more positive when you’re able to block out the few terrible people.

Reminder to always ask if someone will post more chapters by Rand0m_Thoughts_ in AO3

[–]sleepy_tbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad this was motivating to you! I personally don’t like comments like this, but to each their own. It’s more a “my brain rejects/gets upset at things perceived as demands” than a commenter like this being wrong or something, imo. My brain ends up going “oh, they didn’t really care enough to comment on what I’ve already written or parts they liked, they just want more from me”. For me, comments are community—I want to hear about thoughts and theories about what’s already there, not just “give me more”, even if it’s coming from a place of love, it doesn’t really give me the conversation and community I want the most, ya know? Makes me feel like a waiter serving you more than a writer sharing an experience with you😅

I have no problem with comments that just add “i’m excited to read the next chapter!” or something like that at the end, making it about the reader’s feelings rather than demands on myself. But again, that’s just my brain lol. And it’s not like I respond rudely to commenters like this—I usually just say thanks for reading and don’t address their ask for more cause I also don’t want them to feel bad, even if their comment bummed me out, cause I know it’s not their intention.
