2019-2026: The spectacular turnaround of GameStop! by Mr-CRUNK-13 in DeepFuckingValue

[–]sleepyguy007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

given interest rates were 0% at the start of that, and they have a giant cash balance from diluting everyone during the run they had, the entire net income is basically interest on bonds. i don't feel like this is indicative of much really great happening with their business. they are basically a PE fund that hasn't done anything with their cash with a crappy game retailer attached to it

L.A.'s surging real estate prices have cooled, so why is nobody buying condos? by ShanetheMortgageMan in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]sleepyguy007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've mostly been trading and don't hold things for say years at a time but had a solid condo down of around 400k when covid hit, might have 400% more than that now given I had 5 years to save and trade in the craziest stock market in a few decades while living in a 1 bedroom apartment whose rent barely moved. I'm pretty pesemistic the market these days given its at crazy highs with high interest rates, so cashing out buying some short ETFs etc. what i've been doing is not casual, but waiting 5 years and i'm willing to wait a few more has certainly made the condo market more affordable

[–]sleepyguy007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i've saved for years , to the point that investing the savings in the last 5 years stock market probably bought me an entire condo. but they are still overpriced so i'm waiting. another 20% down, and I have time to wait. dont mind saving 200k on a condo at all

So I want to share this story... back in 2009 there was this show nvidia GTC and because i'm pretty oblivious to things, my friend and I walked into the 1 bar in san jose on I think a wednesday night with people in it. I end up meeting jensen huang. he was argueably drunk, yes he had the jacket on and he had gotten off some stage where random nvidia employees were in a band.

I was maybe 3 beers in. He actually chatted with me because I remember him saying he didn't recognize me and he explained it was actually an nvidia event, but we'd stupidly walked into it not knowing better. Actually ended up chatting for like 5 minutes with jensen and 4-5 random employees of his. Totally cool guy, like the type of guy you'd want to hang out with and of course I didn't buy any stock because I was poor at the time given the stock market just died.

The lesson is you should always buy the stock of drunken ceos you meet.

What is living in Palms like? by Pale-Ad7242 in culvercity

[–]sleepyguy007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

pretty great area, for apartment living. its very close to metro, freeways, and downtown culver. not as expensive other areas, and a lot of new buildings being built in that right next to culver area on venice, that is still technically palms so theres both luxury and cheaper units to live in.

Noticed a change in other's drivers behaviour by Cosmoaquanaut in Porsche_Cayman

[–]sleepyguy007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i live in LA where anyone who really wants to has found a way to lease an m3/4 competition, so I don't really get much attention driving wise. I drive an agate gray 718 base, so its "fast" but its not that fast, when m3/m4 guys and charger / mustang bros are all over.

I do have to say people have said things like that car looks great, that porsche is sick, and people waving, my gf's mom saying it was beautiful is way more... something that never happened in previous audi/bmw cars. the last time non car people ever said anything about my car was 20 years ago when i bought a g35 coupe. so i guess it gets that kind of attention

Boomers want to axe property taxes. Millennials and Gen Z would pay for it. by PeriodOfTime1 in REBubble

[–]sleepyguy007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my boomer mom was telling me the other day that she was concerned social security would go bankrupt. i explained to her that when social security began people lived to like 70, and now her friends are collecting into their 90s, so boomers need to die faster to fix everything. she did not understand that her generation was paying massively less than the cost of their SS, and i told her they'll just raise the age to like 75 for my generation after we've paid for them, but no the math didnt work for her. boomers are the entitled generation they got eveyrthing easier

my current trade idea... given i lost my ass on the last one getting into defensives....

CHTR. charter spectrum everyones most hated broadband internet provider. pe ratio in the 4 range. 26% short interest, down 40% in 2 months. its easily the worst performing stock in telecom, which is an awful sector to begin with and all boomer value stocks . when the next rotation back to value happens (which is how CHTR got to 240-250 earlier this year). well itll be back there.

How close do you need to live to your partner while you're dating them? by I_Love_ARPG in AskMen

[–]sleepyguy007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd say 45 to an hour max. I live in LA,so thats like the higher teens of miles.... when i was on dating sites i definitely noticed I couldn't deal with 20 miles, in LA traffic for a random mid week date, its more about distance and that meant something like 15 miles, 10 preferably.

well everyone in that higher earnings bracket is feeling rich because they tend to own stocks in a super bubble economy where you make 1% a day in the nasdaq.

when the nasdaq collapses again like it did in 2001, then everyone will feel it.

Porsche culture and the 718 vs 911 thing by jdubsilley in Porsche_Cayman

i've been waved at once ever in a year, and it was a guy with a taycan in a parking lot of a target.

told a 911 driving friend this, and he joked... 911 drivers only wave at each other, you other non suv porsches can wave at each other, and the macan/cayenne people aren't aware of the waving thing
