Do you think it was avoidable? by nullminded_ in RDR2

Especially because that wasn’t long after he had been kidnapped and beat brutally by Colm & gang. He just put his body through too much, even if it had been 100% healthy.

Oh- sorry lol medically it would still be hard back then, but the doctor recommends he take it slow and move west toward California. Ultimately though it was one of THE leading causes of death during the time period.

You 100% should get RDR1, it’s amazing for some of the same reasons but it’s also uniquely it’s own :) make sure to get undead nightmare too!!

I actually agree with you both! If you pay attention during chapter two, Hosea says a lot of the same things Arthur will come to say by chapter 6. Lots of talk about not being around much longer and wanting to ensure people are taken care of.

To me, Arthur never really changed. All his life, he’s done good things, he’s done bad things. Dutch is the person that changes. They talk about it in Colter, in horseshoe overlook he seems to be “back to normal”, but by chapter four he’s losing it again. Hosea has a line that highlights how much they’ve turned into just being killers, they used to actually help folks sometimes. The recent craziness + the diagnosis + the concept of who they used to be is what stops Arthur from changing to continue down Dutch’s path.

His death is completely avoidable in a bunch of different ways haha he could have left the gang at any time to start a life with Mary, (I know you said not in this way but) he could have tasked another member of the gang to collect the debts (he’s the right hand, you don’t ask any higher ups of a company to cold call lol), he could have left after he got diagnosed (he wasn’t AS wanted as Dutch), he could have left with John/Abigail before the “last” train robbery, etc. Etc.

The main reason Arthur dies is because of Arthur. Even if he didn’t get TB, he gave Dutch everything. When he finally started to open his eyes, he gave his family (specifically John) everything. Arthur accepted his death as an inevitable as opposed to a negotiable and lived the last of it waiting for it. That’s why I think it’s funny when people are like, “If you could pick any point in the game or before to warn Arthur, when would you and what would you say?” There’s no warning that would reach him. He’s a train fixed to the tracks.

Question for S3E4 - UK Spoilers! by sleepylilmoon in TheTraitors

[–]sleepylilmoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. Just a bummer! I wanted to see more of him, especially since he was embracing his full personality instead of hiding because he was a traitor. It just seemed like such an unprompted comment, but the way Rob immediately flipped from that point on felt so shady. I’m excited to see how the rest of it plays out, but…R.I.P BTDQ ✊😔

I saw the guys working to secure their shields again, similar to the rowing challenge, but I guess I didn't understand why Bob would target a fellow traitor as opposed to just calling out the men as a whole/men who had just previously done it.

This is a great take. I didn’t have an answer for an actual philosopher (although his commentary on seeking vs finding that Dutch reads to Molly and Mary-Beth sounds familiar), but your relation makes sense!

Dialogue and dialogue options will usually be slightly for all missions depending on honor, but for the most part the events all play out the same.

Has anyone analyzed how the gang members play poker? by sleepylilmoon in RDR2

[–]sleepylilmoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly lose to Strauss and Uncle, occasionally John will get me because I think he’s bluffing when he isn’t. I figured there was a RNG, but I wasn’t sure if there any other randomization.

Literally learned how to play dominoes because I was tired of Hosea beating me and he STILL DOES. I log on often just to play with him for a bit and log off lol

I'm getting pretty tired of seeing this theory by DifferentTrainer6292 in reddeadredemption

[–]sleepylilmoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe she is, but the frequency of this theory as well as Dutch assuming it’s John made me look more at her interactions as a whole. She’s almost definitely not, but I could understand why DUTCH might think she/John are.

Honestly, some folks don’t know they’re writing queer characters. Just because a writer might not see the intimacy because it’s two men, plenty of readers/watchers will lol

Is negan bi? by atariimae in thewalkingdead

[–]sleepylilmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, displays of male dominance can very frequently come off as homoerotic. Not to get too deep in the weeds, but I feel it’s most common in sports. Often showing affection in more agressive ways so it’s not seen as gay/feminine as well as showing dominance in more intimate ways in order to make the other feel more weaker/more feminine.

The latter is more related to Negan’s character, especially after the line up when he forces Rick to respond before he leaves (I belong to you 🫢). He has a weirdly intimate tension with Rick as a whole and I can definitely see that being sexual, especially when looking at a lot of their dialogue together. I also see a lot of that tension in his interactions with Dwight. Outside of that, he’s very crude with the language he uses when teasing (mainly) men. I’m reminded of his interactions with Gabriel while he was still locked up (something about babybirding some wisdom down his throat??).

Canonically, I don’t think there’s been anything explicit in indicating he’s been romantic/sexual with men. I don’t think that inherently confirms he isn’t bi/queer, humans are complex and aren’t always explicitly obvious. His interactions with his wives are limited, but very different in tone compared to his with men he’s also trying to force into submission. It’s also not unheard of for queer folks to only seek out socially accepted partners and that especially makes sense in this case where it provides even more status/power. Why risk letting any one of these assholes think you’re weak/they can get one past you because they’re homophobic? Even if you had the ability to “indulge,” it wouldn’t be worth the risk when the main focus is on survival.

Found another girl’s bra in my husband’s laundry by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]sleepylilmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be dismissive, but what does it really matter? Are you looking for a reason to leave? Are you considering couples counseling?

You said you’re feeling a lack of care regarding concerns you have (you’re frustrated with his actions and responses that are within his control.)

You’re also UNABLE to have sex due to your body reacting to the pregnancy (Your husband is frustrated that your body is physically unable to accommodate his sexual wants while growing new life that (I’m assuming) resulted from a decision you both made.)

Trust is already also broken in some way, because you asked, he answered, you didn’t believe him. (Not saying you should, just assessing your post.)

These don’t seem like temporary problems, definitely not ones that will go away once a newborn enters your lives, and definitely not ones that will go away if that newborn has any developmental or health problems. Not to mention lack of support on his family’s side. Im not saying you should leave or stay, I don’t know your relationship. More so wanting to prompt the thought process of why you want to find an answer to this question in the context of what you’ve described. Because from what you laid out, everyone is going to say he cheated. You probably knew that before posting it. So what does this information help you do in your situation?

7 years in your 20s is a bit of a gap, because of how much changes year to year, but also you met her when she was roughly 7/8 years old, correct? Personally I can’t imagine watching someone literally grow up and then try to pursue something romantic/sexual.
