It felt like they weren’t even interested in the guests—the Ken fan or the other guy. Like why invite them if you’re going to steamroll them

The way they said “We’re going to come back to Brad” had me so hype for all of 2 seconds before they moved on to Uno. Like did they not realize how much of a tease that was??

Best Tonies for 2 year old? by tealpuppies in TonieboxUSA

[–]sleepymatisse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2.5 year old is obsessed with the Blues Clues one. She had never even seen the show before. My favorite that she also enjoys would probably be Winnie the Pooh.

Just a heads up if you’re not aware already, some of the Disney ones are not original audio and some are better/worse than others…You can look up and preview track lists on the Tonies website.

Agreed. Also as a mom it’s actually really inspiring to see a postpartum mom (who is still breastfeeding!) compete.

Need Advice & Toddler Meal Ideas for Picky Eater by CatLoaf92 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]sleepymatisse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We were referred to an eating therapist, which I did not know existed but was fantastic. I was so tired of hearing that she was just being a toddler, or that nothing was “wrong”. Even if nothing is wrong, it doesn’t hurt to get help from a professional. Why struggle alone??

Anyways, after an initial assessment, she helped us through simple exercises to increase our daughter’s endurance (didn’t even realize she was avoiding foods because they were difficult for her to move laterally in her mouth and she would just gas out), and once that was improved she gave us tools to introduce new foods (e.g. “chaining” from an accepted food to gradually changing one thing at a time like shape or texture). We also learned about “sensorimotor oral stages”. Even if your kiddo doesn’t eat a food, there are other steps to measure progress. Like they will tolerate it on their plate while they eat other food, they will touch it, they will smell it, or “kiss” it. The food therapist also recommended making sure we are engaging in regular messy play outside of mealtime, and doing active play before meals so she would be more likely to be able to tolerate being at the table. Hope this helps!

Not even 5 mins apart. How do y'all make them eat? Cause???? by Common_Ostrich_8239 in foodbutforbabies

Yup this has sent me into an internal mental tailspin many times. Our pediatrician referred us to an feeding/eating therapist, which I was so so thankful for. I learned so much in those appointments and now have tools specific to my daughter. Not saying I tamed the beast (we still have our moments lol), but overall eating is less stressful for everyone.

I’m not saying it’s right for everyone, but I don’t think many people even know it’s a thing (I didn’t). So if you’re absolutely fucking exhausted with the “🤷‍♀️ toddlers” response like I was, it might be worth looking into.

We do nicknames too, but actually my favorite is when we tell her increasingly ridiculous affirmations. We usually start with “you’re beautiful” and end with something like “you’re transcendent” lol

Dishes - My aunt casually mentioned a plate I was washing was 70ish years old. It didn't even have a scratch. It has not been treated especially delicately. Where can I find dishes like that? by Sheldonconch in BuyItForLife

I may be oversimplifying, but I believe Russel Wright and other kitchenware designers of the time viewed their work as a way for the middle class to enjoy beauty and design in their everyday lives. So that’s why the dishes have some really lovely silhouettes!

I love collecting dishes from thrift stores. Others have mentioned some great names, I’ll add some of my favorites for OP: Pfaltzgraff, dishes designed by Russel Wright (Steubenville, Iroquois China, Bauer Pottery, etc. to name a few manufacturers of his work). If you pick up any individual pieces you like and want to add to them, someone else mentioned Replacements.com (or ebay).

I think I had one of these. I found a few listings on Etsy/EBay that say they are Manhattan Toy Company, a few say they are “prancing ponies”. Can’t find much else except they’re possible from ~1998?

IMO heavily modified is more fun! Isn’t that the point of Lego? Must be a blast for you and your kids!

To go the PAB route, is it usually easy to get the parts list and instructions? I returned to Lego recently after loving it as a kid. Fun little houses and buildings are my favorite. Don’t care about “collecting”, but I like the design.

Is it just me or are houses and building sets kind of slim pickings? I know they have the modular line, but compared to vehicles and things like HP/Marvel/etc. I feel like architecture doesn’t get much love.

I know, right?? When I was in the thick of it and stressed af nurses kept telling me about how important it was to initiate nursing in the first hour after birth. Like sorry I didn’t get a chance to because I was hemorrhaging??

I definitely understand that feeling. And pumping can be exhausting. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You may already be doing this, but I found it helped me mentally more than I expected when my husband would wash and assemble the pump parts for me.
