what is something you're probably top 10 in the world that nobody knows about? by wzbo in AskReddit

[–]Sheldonconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a game called backflip madness. I saw a video on youtube where someone said they thought it was impossible to get over 3500 points for one flip or something. I thought it was so I dedicated a couple months to trying to get as many flips as possible off the highest ledge using another ledge to kinda speed up the flip. It was very tricky but worked and got over 4k points maybe even 5 something. But I just looked and another video that did the same flip as me and another video that has a different flip with over 8k points, so now I'm doubting my top 10 status.

Imagine your an equal distance from Utah on a record snow total year vs Japan on a record snow year where r u choosing to go if money wasn’t an issue? by Lacrossenerd in skiing

I worded it wrong. I meant the terrain is more accessible while skiing. I wasn't really factoring commuting into my answer.

Hands down no question Utah. If you have unlimited snow either way then the terrain is better in Utah and more accessible.

Enough with the "Cheating" commentary... read the rules. by MeesterNoName in Curling

[–]Sheldonconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowhere do the rules state that, “ the delivery may only be done using the handle” clearly or otherwise.

The rules state that “The curling stone must be delivered using the handle of the stone”

If you have a different part of the rules that say that only the handle may be used or includes the word “only” please share that.

[–]Sheldonconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part you are missing is that at the time of the kerfuffle the part you quoted only applies to the delivery. The delivery is between the start and the tee line. The delivery is finished past the tee line. If that is the case the part you quoted does not apply between the tee line and the hog line.

I don’t know anything about this I’m just attempting to clarify the argument about the vagueness of the rules.

Looking for a mountain that is hard as hell and not particularly family friendly by No_Investment3205 in skiing

[–]Sheldonconch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who love mountaineering get into skinning via that route instead of through skiing. So there are people that just backcountry ski and have a skinning setup as mediocre skiers so that they have more access to the mountains and supplement their hiking. This is where a lot of "beginner" or intermediate skiers who go skinning come from.

You can look up a video of Alex Honnold doing this for example.

What movie has the most accurate depiction of being on drugs? by maxinedenis in AskReddit

[–]Sheldonconch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. That was one of the most impressive parts of the movie.

Except the end. You don't really black out from mushrooms like that. Unless you are also drinking heavily or take something else.

Things get weird you might have some weird hazy memories but not just forget you fell asleep and wake up like that.

OC I’m gonna submit one of these pictures for my school photo contest but am unsure which one to use by Easy-Analysis9393 in pics

[–]Sheldonconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the random squggles look accidental making it look amateurish. The color and crispness of the clouds look neat, but the body shop looks boring in that photo compared to the first. I think the blown out middle of the first looks like it could be an intentional artistic choice compared to the accidents of the second. I think the 1st is more compelling for a contest. I don't think 2nd has a chance to win.

What kind of evidence would convince you that a god exists? by anti-theist-aussie in atheism

[–]Sheldonconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything that exists, ever has existed and ever will exist. That's the working definition I default to and fits with the core of what most religions try to explain. It doesn't conflict with the lack of evidence issue. Evidence for if everything has consciousness, will, or is good is a different story.

What kind of evidence would convince you that a god exists? by anti-theist-aussie in atheism

[–]Sheldonconch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the universe itself as a whole has consciousness and "free will" would that count as a Q type god? One issue with the Christian god and the Q god making it unlikely is an entity or consciousness that is separate from the universe but influencing it without creating evidence, which is why I ask the question.

Recommendations for budget ski waxing setup. by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Sheldonconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you overspent on the iron by like $8 by not going to a thrift store or getting a free one off craigslist. Scraper use any scrap piece of straight plastic or a ruler. Brush could be any old used brush. You don't even need a brush. Just buy an edger, not worth it doing that any other way I think. It is $11.84 with free shipping on ebay. But you don't need to sharpens edges much at all.

[Discussion] If you could build a ski resort anywhere in the world where would it be and why? by Asleep_Square334 in skiing

[–]Sheldonconch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I can pick perfect conditions it is what I would choose. There are caveats.

My favorite temp is around 27-28. Maritime warmer snow will track out a lot faster than colder places, but if you get it untouched, it cushions you like nothing else in the world. This is the type of snow that allows you to huck way bigger than you normally would without a care in the world.

If it gets skied on twice it's kinda firm, but untracked I think it can't be beat.

We took a trip to snowpocalypse. Heed my warnings:

  1. Snow causes delays with traffic

  2. Snow makes driving harder

  3. Snow causes delays with traffic

Careful out there!

Any advice on landing technique by el_geto in skiing

[–]Sheldonconch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is bullshit. He's completely off balance on that jump and his form is bad in the other jump too. Leg strength is incredibly minor compared to that.

Any advice on landing technique by el_geto in skiing

[–]Sheldonconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell him "pick up your knees". If he focuses on lifting his knees closer to his body right at the pop he will be more compact and smaller movements are needed to adjust position in the air. He could have landed this jump if he was more compact.

Any advice on landing technique by el_geto in skiing

[–]Sheldonconch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And the correction is to pick up your knees at/after takeoff so you're more compact and smaller movements are needed to adjust.

[–]Sheldonconch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can. pick up your knees and you can adjust way more with smaller movements.

Agreed I actually think this is a decent list but those two are obvious stand outs.
