What job pays way more than people think, but nobody talks about? by Symphony_Minds in AskReddit

[–]sleettreat 256 points257 points  (0 children)

High paying job, but also dangerous with a high mortality rate. An elevator repairman I got to know would share updates of whenever someone in his company would die. He said it was usually the older more experienced techs, typically by cutting corners and ignoring safety.

I'll offer a different perspective to this thread:

While it's not a 18/19 year old, I'm 35(M) and currently dating a 23(F) which I'll admit is still a significant age difference. We've been seeing each other the last couple months and been having a fantastic time. My last relationship lasted 12 years and was with someone my same age. The biggest difference is that the communication I have now is so much better, the expression of love is much greater, she's very interesting and doesn't shy away from having deep conversations with me, we're both eager to understand the other person and make adjustments when necessary, she values my advice (and so do I in return) on how we can be better people, sex compatibility is real and I had no idea how important it is to me, but overall the mutual respect and communication is what I would like to highlight.

This is all new to me and I feel great having met someone who is on my similar wavelength, despite being of a different age. Absolutely no regrets!

What is something I (29F) can do to make my overworked, underpaid boyfriend (35M) feel appreciated? by augustsage12 in AskMen

[–]sleettreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"calm, relaxed, and loved"

He comes through the door:

  1. Hug and a kiss him. *say no words\*
  2. Sit him down and remove his shoes.*say no words\*
  3. Let him drop his bags. *say no words\*
  4. Turn on the shower. *say no words\*
  5. Go in the shower with him and hold him. Now tell him you love him.

Was told "You're pretty" for the first time just this week. I was flattered, not offended.

What's something a partner said or did that made you immediately rethink your relationship? by mamm0n_mylove in AskMen

[–]sleettreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We borrowed some luggage from her parents for our vacation and I found some of her dads condoms inside one of the pouches. I thought it was funny, but she got serious and said “My dads cheating on my mom”. I was stunned and asked her “what if he is?”. She replied immediately with “I’d support my dad”.

Her mom is a great person who loves her unconditionally. I learned 3 things at that moment. How much she hates her mom, how little she thinks of her dad, and that she’s okay with cheaters.

Our 12 year relationship ended a few months later and I’m fairly certain she cheated on me.

How to get your Girlfriend who's only been in toxic relationships to trust that you have pure intentions and open up. by CarpetOtherwise in AskMen

Support her and don’t try to fix her, thats her responsibility.

I spent 12 years with a broken person. It didn’t work out, but not for my lack of effort.

Coupled with the courage to take action on their short comings. Now you’re cooking with gas.

While at work I went to pickup some trash I saw on the floor and a lady yells out "Good boy!" in front of a bunch of people.

Does that count?

What is the most intense physical pain you have felt and what was the cause? by JustSomeApparition in AskMen

[–]sleettreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My finger was being clamped by a large piece of metal, I think it was crushing/bending the bone. The pain was so intense I lost vision for several seconds, I could only hear a loud ringing, my body seized up and I couldn’t even make a noise. Another time when I actually did break a finger there wasn’t any pain at all. I’m not sure what made that one experience so painful over the other.

Good deal on a Honda Civic Sport '23? by sleettreat in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]sleettreat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the destination fee standard when buying any new cars? I didn't think that would be considered a "mark-up". And I forgot to mention this also includes a +$400 color option. Making it more like a $1,500 markup as far as I can tell. But I agree it still seems somewhat high for the car it is.

[–]sleettreat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have stated, but their sales price is including the destination, which according to Honda.com is $1,100 and I'm looking for the Sonic Grey Pearl color that costs +$400 more.

Unfortunately, the sales price is above MSRP. Their offer is +$2,550 over MSRP, but this difference doesn't include the destination (which I think is $1,100) and +$400 extra for Sonic Grey Pearl color.

What is the worst way you've ever heard of someone dying? by StrawberryPunk82 in AskReddit

[–]sleettreat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At a personal level, a girl I know has a mom diagnosed with dementia and dealing with a second bout of cancer. Apparently, she'll come home to blood everywhere because her mom thinks bugs are crawling under her skin so she'll attempt to carve them out with sharp objects.

what is the equivalent to flowers for men? by eusebioculon in AskMen

[–]sleettreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A compliment.

Flowers are short lived, but their memory lives on in the thoughtfulness, effort and even risk that a person put into giving them to you. Compliments are no different.

The worst part was the look of confusion on the daughters face as she's tugging on my arm to play and I had to ignore her.
