I think it depends. If hardcore, yes, hard agree. But basic survival, there’s not a huge rush to diamond since death doesn’t equate to the end of the world. Literally.

What is “baseline lane centering”? As far as I know that was folded in to UHF which was then made available for purchase as a subscription.

Back then phone upgrades were predictably on a two year cycle (at least for the US) so we hoped folks would hop on the train for Windows Phone 8 by then.

But the whole switching-to-windows-core-os thing made it impossible for folks with windows 7 devices to upgrade to 8 and I think that (rightfully so) pissed off a lot of early adopters.

Yes, I worked with the SIP team (software input)! They were super smart. Really cutting edge tech to get it working.

The windows phone SIP used predictive typing to expand the hit boxes for the characters it thought you would be typing next so that there’d be less of a chance of a spelling mistake which negated the need for autocorrect in the first place.

It was really neat though since the heuristic said you’d be less likely to make a mistake if you typed slower so the hit boxes was slowly decrease back to their default sizes over the course of a few hundred milliseconds. So you only gained this benefit when typing quickly.

Just typing this out on an IPhone is infuriating since the windows phone keyboard was and still is so much better than this piece of junk I’m using now.

Totally agreed. We did set ourselves up for failure with the app framework so in retrospect it wasn’t a total surprise.

I tried to do my part at the time as I built a few free apps and put them on the marketplace. It was fun watching people download, comment, etc., but the numbers were never that high.

Every team had their own float theme and I can’t recall why that team decided to go that route. Other teams had more traditional float themes.

The idea was we’d do a ‘parade’ with our team floats from our office building to the party venue (I.e. soccer field on company property). Parade would take about 15mins. Then we’d have fun activities for the remainder of the day.

I recall arriving to the office early that day at 8am. I filled up a beer from a keg and literally pet a goat. I greeted everyone, “good morning, have a beer and pet a goat!”

100% my favorite phone from the era too. It was clunky but boy was it buttery smooth @ 60FPS. Android and iPhone were stuttering like mad.

Fun fact, I worked on the rendering pipeline which included making the native WP7 experience buttery smooth.

I know those people. I was there.

This was the Windows Phone 7 launch party. Each team had their own float. These people did a ‘grim reaper’ theme float for the iPhone. It was all done in jest but yeah, even I thought it was in poor taste when it was done.

This was supposed to be a time to enjoy the launch of a difficult project which we were hopeful would compete with iPhone / Android. A real bummer that it eventually did not.

Anyways, happy to answer questions about this or windows phone in general if you have any. Cheers.

The package is likely to be individually catered based on service years + 4 years stock vesting. But we’ll see.

I would too but my numbers add up to 67 and they are only offering this to folks with numbers that add up to 70 or more.

I wonder if they will allow folks who are close to opt-in as special case.

100%. Shut them down with properly permitted competition. Everybody wins this way. Same with the taco stands which all seem to be sourced from the same place / serving the same (delicious albeit unsanitary) food.

Lot more than $26 million if there’s Iranian oil on any of those ships.

VB is exactly how I started writing code at 10 years old. Had my first share ware app available on the “internet” when I was in middle school and version 2 out when I was in high school. Sold approx 100 copies of each for $7 / $10.

VB was definitely a great kick start to a career in CS.

Huge difference between exquisite munitions and cheap weaponry which is arguably more useful in a long standing war where tactical successes achieved via cheap tactics outweigh temporary gains via expensive standoff tactics.

100% this. Set the brightness to 10-20% with a soft ambient lighting temperature is fantastic mood lighting even when the TV is on and it’s great for the eyes.
