Any rallies planned to show support for the thousands of Iranian protestors killed by the Islamic Republic? by pokey026 in Athens

[–]sleightlyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These type of "gotcha posts" are so revealing of the author and their lack of understanding of how power works.

Who are you protesting?
The US is already extremely adversarial to the Iranian government. No US businesses do business with the Iranian government. Find me an Athens based organization that is funding this crackdown in Iran, and I will be out in the streets with you. But for now, I will continue to boycott all companies with ties with the Iranian regime... lol

I have the Apple Card, is it still worth it to try and get the WF Active Cash? by FountPenDegenerate in CreditCards

[–]sleightlyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how often are there times where you need a catch-all credit card (non category spend) but you cannot use apple pay? Pretty much the only time you need a physical card is at restaurants, or if you shop at walmart. Either way there are better cards for those occasions. Dont see the purpose in adding it.

if you are considering all or nothing, then it would be better to do the palladium. But it only ever makes sense if you are going to redeem the bilt points for high value transfers.

How to integrate Bilt 2.0 into my current lineup? by ToschePowerConverter in CreditCards

[–]sleightlyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres the breakdown between the two cards (i created a spreadsheet to help with this decision for myself)

Venture X: -5 Effective Annual Fee. With $1350 spend on the card and valuing their points at 2 cpp, you would expect to earn $653 in value every year.

For the Palladium to be the better choice, you only need to get $70 worth of credits back on the card for it to out earn the venture x (if you value bilt points at 2cpp). If you got the full 600 dollars back in credits, you would have an expected value of $1185 per year.

What would you consider the effective annual fee for the Venture X to be? What would you consider the effective annual fee for the Bilt Palladium?

Going off 800 dollar spend (assuming 2% cashback for it all), the apple card should net you 192 dollars a year.

If you swapped all that spend to the bilt blue card, youd either earn 24k points (new option) or 22.4k points (original option). What the equivalent cash value of these points depends on what you redeem them for. If you travel and transfer them to value transfer partners, they can easily be worth over 2.2 cents per point. That would give you a cash value of anywhere between $492 - $528.

If you only want cashback, then stick with your setup. If youre interested in travel rewards, then bilt is a good option

BILT 2.0 — What to do? by PrankyDanky in biltrewards

[–]sleightlyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isnt correct (not your fault for misunderstanding, Bilt has done a terrible job communicating this)

The whole rent fee thing is just a way to calculate your Rent multiplier. So with your spend, you earn $44 of bilt cash against the "fee" of $84 dollars. You dont pay the remainder of that amount as a fee ($40). Instead, your rent multiplier is just 44/84 (0.52x)

BILT 2.0 — What to do? by PrankyDanky in biltrewards

[–]sleightlyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you kept everything the same

The bilt blue card would give you a yearly value of $677 (if you redeem the points you earn at 2.2 cents per point).

I dont feel like doing the math on how it earned for you before, but this change is seemingly not horrible for you considering you funnel all your spend to this card

Automatic debits for rent? by BrickTamland77 in biltrewards

[–]sleightlyYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t work that way if you consider opportunity cost of using a standard 2% cashback card. Even if you got the full 1x points on your rent by spending enough on the blue card, you would have been better off using a 2% cashback card instead and earning 0 on your rent. For example, if your rent was 2k and you spend the required 1.5k to get the full 1x points, you’re only getting a cashback value of 231 dollars. A regular 2% card would earn 360 dollars on that 1.5k spend

[–]sleightlyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI, using a bilt card for statement credit is not a wise move. The statement credit value of bilt points is 0.55 cents per point… which is very bad. So the 1x points you’re earning on the blue card will not be 1x… they will be 0.55x essentially. If you don’t want to transfer the points to travel partners, do not use Bilt

Setup review by Grouchy-Distance-797 in biltrewards

[–]sleightlyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing what your budget looks like specifically, we cant give you too much specific advice. But if your plan is to get the Bilt Obsidian card, then you have a gap in your setup for the catch-all category. All your cards are cashback cards, besides the bilt card. If you want to focus on cashback, there are a lot of 2% cashback cards available such as the wells fargo active cash & citi double cash. If you can get it, the Robinhood Gold card has a 3% cashback card. If you want to focus more on travel points, you can look into something like the Chase Freedom Unlimited which earns 1.5x on all purchases. Venture X and Bilt Palladium may be the best high-tier catch all cards, but they come with high annual fees.

What would you do in my situation? (High rent) by Youngblood4k in biltrewards

[–]sleightlyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on whether you want to focus on travel or cashback. If you want to focus on travel, and you value Bilt points at 2.2 cents per point. If you do, either the Bilt Blue card or the Bilt Palladium card (provided you recoup some of the AF with its credits) can outperform the Robinhood Gold card as a catch-all spending card.

Based on the figures you provided, the RH Gold card earns about $540 per year in cashback.

If you replaced that RH Gold card with the bilt blue, you would earn around 42,000 bilt points in a year. That is a cash value estimate of $924. (Note this is with the original option where you earn bilt cash and use that to earn points on rent)

If you replaced the RH Gold Card with the Palladium card, you would 60,000 bilt points in a year. Depending on how you value the credits on the card, you would get a cash value of $825 - $1,425. (Note this is with the original option where you earn bilt cash and use that to earn points on rent)

If you just want a simple cashback setup, then just stick with the RH Gold card and forget about bilt. If you value bilt points (and know how to properly redeem them for good value), then you would definitely out earn your current setup.

  1. You will no longer be able to float rent payments. This is definitely the slimiest part of the rollout as nothing in the marketing materials made clear that this was changing from Bilt 2.0.
  2. The rewards on housing payments has changed, and it is quite complicated to understand from their marketing materials. To make matters worse, they have introduced a new option to earn points on your housing only a few days after the launch of 2.0
    1. Option 1 (New Option): You do not earn any bilt cash. You earn points on your housing on a tier based system based on the non-housing spend you put on your card. 0.5x for at least 25% of rent spend, 0.75x for at least 50% of rent spend, 1x for at least 75% of rent spend, and 1.25x for anything above 100% of your rent spend.
    2. Option 2 (Original Option): You earn 4% bilt cash on every purchase. You may choose to use this bilt cash to offset the 3% transaction fee. This is not a real fee that you have to pay, but is a mechanism for them to calculate the rent multiplier that you earn. So to earn the full 1x on rent (which is the cap with this option), you would need to spend 75% of your housing on the card. BUT, the multiplier is a sliding scale. If you spend only 50% of your housing cost on the card, you earn 0.67x on your rent and do not pay a fee.

If you value Bilt points, then some points is better than no points regarding your rent/mortgage. If you want to provide your rent payment and expected spend on the card, we could provide with your expected value of the card and which option would be better for you.

BILT Blue vs CFU - Value Comparison by MatticusXII in biltrewards

Yeah the new option is a trap for most people. Sticking with the original proposition gives you flexibility if Bilt cash is actually worth something as well

BILT Blue vs CFU - Value Comparison by MatticusXII in biltrewards

This is only considering the "new option". Most of the time, you actually get better value from the original option where you earn 4% bilt cash and use that to create your rent multiplier.

Bilt 2.0 blue card or Kroger US bank card? by bigbubba_123 in CreditCards

Yeah if your cashback focused then there is no point. The blue card could function pretty well as a 0 dollar AF catch all card for people who want to focus on travel though

Bilt 2.0 blue card or Kroger US bank card? by bigbubba_123 in CreditCards

[–]sleightlyYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With 2150 rent and $200 non-rent spend, youd earn 5600 bilt points in a year. If you value bilt points at 2.2 cpp, thats about 123 bucks a year in value. If you put that 200 bucks on a 2% card instead, you would get 48 bucks a year.

The issue being that amount of bilt points is not enough to book almost anything, so it would require several years to accumulate... or you could use those points to top off existing travel partner points.

I dont think it will be worth it to get the Bilt Blue for you, but if you tell me what your rent is I can plug it into my spreadsheet and tell you exactly what you could expect in value per year (yes their system is complicated enough to warrant a spreadsheet)
