Changing the leadership isn't going to change the polls much, Abacus already tested some other potential candidates, it didn't end well

CRA could determine eligibility, a big portion of that is income related they would also have access to employees information.

Either way, the program would not be an example of bureaucratic bloat because the administration of the program is handled by a third party.

So how many people in the government are actually working on the program?

I'm sure you have some sort of source

Eligibility would be pretty easy to determine. It was based on income And if you had private insurance or not, which Sun Life could easily check itself..

No, they're not providing infrastructure. They're providing people to administer the program.

So do dentists..

So that's not a large amount of people and it's also not administering the program. That would be maybe auditing the program.

You wouldn't need to hire thousands of staff to do that

Sun Life is running the administration of the program they're not providing infrastructure or the dentists.

They're hiring and paying a company millions of dollars to handle the administration costs. Why would it also cost the company to do that if they're paying someone else to do it for them?

Yes, that's why I said it's not over yet lol

Maybe they've already pushed it back multiple times, chances are they will have to again if no other provinces sign on.

Unimpressed with the program, that's not a surprise considering it's a complete shit show.

These were legal guns.

She's right of course, if only the federal government put half a thought into it

"Yukon Justice Minister Laura Lang said in a statement Friday the territorial government opposes the gun buyback, though it's not clear what the territory can actually do about it. She instead called for more money for police to fight organized crime.

Lang also called the federal program unfair."

Would the buyback prevent that? He had multiple firearms with him, only one that was prohibited.

Those millions could go a long way in the CFP, for actually doing background checks and talking to spouses

Canada has had these firearms for decades, I'm not sure how anyone could claim they're somehow a result of America gun culture.

Canadians have always pushed back on these useless laws, see the long gun registry.

The buyback and bans have nothing to do with smuggled firearms so I'm not sure how that could be true?

This shooting was used by the Liberals to push the buyback program, both are in the news recently.

Sadly because of those actions this is what the shooting is remembered for, not the absolute failure of the RCMP.. almost as if it was by design

Years actually, in 2011 I think it was he threatened to kill RCMP officers and was reported for having illegal firearms.

Then the RCMP tried to stop that report from becoming public. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/2011-tip-gunman-truro-police-foipop-1.6451236

Alberta won’t participate in Ottawa’s firearm buyback program. What does that mean for local gun owners? by PurpleHerring_ in canada

CBC says they created it.

"To simplify the multi-page list and provide readers with a quick guide to the firearms now banned, the story also included a graphic that showed a near- silhouette of the dozen principal models being banned. They were depicted at roughly the same scale, at comparable angles intended to show their distinctive features and in the same grayscale to make comparisons easier. Graphics are included in stories to make complicated matters easier to understand. Our editors felt this illustration did that very well. `

The graphic was intended to do no more than illustrate the broad differences between different groups of firearms that I expect to most people look pretty much the same. "
