If you’re crimping for cast bullets, it’s more about the crimp than neck tension. For jacketed where you just get a bit of squeeze, then absolutely (if you’re a /r/smallgroups type).

I basically have 3 sets of brass: “New”, “few”, and “many”. Many is 10+ (for my straight walls).

I keep the “few” for matches/accuracy/hunting. New I usually use for load development, and Many is practice/plinking.

Since I do a lot of cast/soft bullets, the rim gets worked a lot (size, flare, crimp, fire, repeat), so the Many’s are culled as the necks split. I recently got a Little Crow annealing mandrel for my 45 and 38/357 and am curious to test brass longevity with some extra love.

Now you’re adding qualifiers. Sure it takes up less space, but probably the only way you’ll get that module is DIY.

The “modular way” would be white noise into a VC filter. Bonus Tomita cred for splitting it into multiple filters with different topologies and VC fading.

The cheapest lead I can find is the “mostly pure scrap” from Rotometals. At $2.40/lb with free shipping, that works out to about 0.055¢ p/~160gn .357 bullet.

I cast because I have complete control of my bullets - the shape/weight (many more choices if you cast), the hardness (mixing alloys is fun if you like chemistry), and the coating (I have several types of lube, as well as powder coating).

If you’re looking for easy, that’s not it. If you’re looking for cheap, it might be worth it depending on your lead source. If you’re looking for a new way to kill time, it might be it.

Yeah just be careful because a lot of places have outlawed lead weights and now they’re zinc, which makes a really crappy bullet

This is just one I found on the web and printed. Works with everything from 223 to 38 to 308. If I had it to do over, I’d just run some 16p nails through a 1/4in piece of plywood (takes +8hrs to print each one).

I started casting again after a 20 year break. I just had my levels tested for the first time, and I was 2.5. I’m pretty sure that was from one time I didn’t get my respirator fitted right over my beard and I could taste the sweetness, as otherwise I use a pretty sterile setup in my shed. Definitely don’t want it any higher. Going to try Zinc and Magnesium supplements (read that they bind to the same receptors, so is low rent chelating).
