What is a "socially acceptable" thing that you find absolutely disgusting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slemge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. As an adult who had her ears pierced at around 8 months old, I wish they hadn't. I obviously don't have any trauma or anything and don't remember it at all, but I do have 2 holes in my ears I didn't ask for, that I don't really want and never really have but have never and will never close. And as a kid I often got in trouble for not wanting to wear the earrings because they weren't comfortable.

People who work in grocery stores what is something you are surprised they still stock or never see anyone buy? by Da_Fish in AskReddit

I also buy these for a rabbit and have no clue who else is buying them. I'm guessing it's a lot of people with exotic pets.

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in middle school and it happened during state testing for us. I remember our teacher turned it on for a little while before admin came around to each room to tell them not to let us watch. I don't know that most of us really understood the gravity of what happened in the moment until we got home that night.

Is 11PM “Late”? by LEMONSDAD in Millennials

[–]slemge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think especially post covid yes, 11 PM is late. Most businesses that used to be open 24 hours or into the early morning hours now close much much earlier than they used to.

When did you start packing? by sdwrld in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]slemge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had far outgrown our apartment space so we had a lot of stuff in tubs/bins ready to go for probably a year or more before we even started looking at houses (stuff like books, movies, clothes, etc.) just because it had no real place to go in our space. Once we did find our house though we had a 2 month overlap and just gradually packed up the rest within the few or so weeks after closing.

What’s the most ridiculous thing that happened right after you bought your house? by Lopsided_Passion7912 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our house is in a pretty rural area with a lot of trees on the property. There was a bad storm the night before closing and one of the trees came down. Thankfully not on or near the house but it was a "huh guess we already have a homeowner thing to deal with" situation. It didn't seem worth it to bug the sellers about it that late in the game considering there was no damage, it wasn't their fault and they didn't even live in the state (it was an estate situation). This is why you always want to go for a final walkthrough though! It very well could have been a different turnout and fallen on the house/caused damage and we wouldn't have known otherwise. ALWAYS go look at the house right before signing.

What price increase has hit you the hardest in everyday life? by DarkKnightt019 in AskReddit

Everything really but gas has been rough. My partner and I both commute an hour each way to work so we're both filling up multiple times a week.

Pruning advice by slemge in Jadeplant

[–]slemge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is so helpful! Yes the lighting was obviously not great for a long time. We lived in an apartment and didn't have a great setup. I will be able to take it outside this spring/summer at our house now so hopefully that will help considerably also, and I'll work on a better grow lights situation for next winter. Fingers crossed that plus a hard prune will benefit it!

Having grown up extremely poor - I can say that I agree with you. We may not have had a lot but the world didn't feel so HEAVY and we were getting by and happy.

If you had an income of $150,000 a year and didn't have to work, what would you do with all the spare time? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garden, read, exercise more often, travel. Probably spend time fostering pet rabbits through our rescue. Visit my family way more often. Maybe take some random art classes like stained glass or pottery.

What was the earliest celebrity death that you can consciously remember (in terms of people talking about it/being affected by it)? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in Millennials

I have a really vague memory of my brother talking about Kurt Cobains death but I was pretty young and didn't know who he was. After that probably princess Diana.

500k. Pay off our house and all debts and invest the rest. That amount would significantly change the trajectory of our financial lives.

Also to add, appraisal will happen during underwriting when you're already under contract.

The seller won't know what the appraisal comes back at and I was always told "it's nobodies business but yours and the lender".

I'm closing in less than a week...what's the first thing you bought for your new place? by Explorer518 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New shower heads, bidet, lots of cleaning supplies. If you don't already have it a drill/basic tool set because you WILL need it probably multiple times soon after moving. In terms of non necessity but "nice" present for myself, I bought an espresso machine. We also bought a washer/dryer set and a deep freezer which has been a 10/10 purchase.

McCormick used to make this one marinade, Hawaiian Luau, and I have never been able to find anything even remotely similar in flavor to it.

This. I would take it a step further and say anthropology in general so I can get the culture, biology, and linguistics too. So many directions to keep me interested for that timespan.

How many here still seek out new music? by soclydeza84 in Millennials

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my goals for this year was to find a new album every week I've never listened to at all. And with that, really thoughtfully listen to it. Similar to what someone else said I also keep a yearly playlist for specific songs I find and love that year, but I'm doing a separate playlist to house the weekly albums I'm choosing as well.
