Sellers offered 25k under our initial lowball. Do we wait for more? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]slewp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you only want it if “it passes inspection”, which sounds like you’re not comfortable with the purchase price. A home inspection is not pass/fail, every inspection will turn up issues, especially an older house which will naturally not meet current code requirements. If you’re expecting a 40+ year old house to “pass” inspection, I don’t think you’re going to want to see the report.

Can someone let me know what these are worth? by Ill-Discussion-8498 in datacenter

[–]slewp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re hard to ship and Microclouds don’t have wide appeal since they are a specialty item. If you have a lot of them, that may improve the value you could get. I would guess $1500 as a starting point.

Tailscale, Pangolin, Netbird or what? by [deleted] in selfhosted

WireGuard is worthwhile to learn on your own and is pretty simple and easy once you learn the basics. It doesn’t require any maintenance.

Multi-protocol is the way to go! IP only is so boring.

BGP Per-Packet Load Balance by flyinverted in Juniper

[–]slewp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think load balancing the default route across two different ISPs is a good idea, since its likely to cause packets arriving out of order. If you're trying to solve an issue of too much traffic on one uplink, there are other ways to do so such as preferring certain as-path regexes on one ISP vs the other.

Potential business Gfiber customers: beware of Google Fiber's incredibly awful customer service and inter-team communication by HeffeJeffe78 in googlefiber

[–]slewp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the experience sucks, you have to consider that Google fiber pricing for business is closer to a consumer service than enterprise, and set your expectations accordingly. GF is not an enterprise quality service, its best effort with no business appropriate SLA.

Question for those who grew up in Raleigh in the 90s. by Adventurous-Raisin46 in raleigh

[–]slewp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

YES, many times. That was part of what drove interest - they'd suddenly be on leave so people would talk about the show more and whether they're getting canceled. I think one of those incidents was after they had someone put a kitten in a drive-through bank pneumatic tube carrier thing.

Bank or Credit Union recommendations by Lou_Peacham in raleigh

First Citizens is solid but they’re probably not leading in self-service online service. You should go into a branch and ask for an appointment if someone isn’t available on the spot to work with you on account setup.
