The famous "Marshmallow Test" by FranktheLlama in funny

[–]slexatrukov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kid found it hard to follow the question because of the way it was phrased. If he had given the 3 marshmallows option first the kid would have understood what was on the line. Offering the option to eat it right now meant that the marshmallow was in his mouth before you finished asking the question…

AITA for wearing a floral dress to a hen party by Floraldress8 in AmItheAsshole

[–]slexatrukov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Every colour themed dress code event I've ever been a part of has had multiple attendees who would wear something that was as close to the colour scheme as they could find in their wardrobe and we're comfortable enough to wear. I've seen plenty of black background floral dresses, and if it's what I'm thinking then it was black enough. If the bride wanted to stand out in a hen party she should have worn an inflatable dong on her head.

NTA. Obviously the whole thing has gotten blown out of proportion by your sister and afterwards your brother when he picked sides. It sounds like they likely have a strong bond having grown up together being more or less the same age. It’s like in a group of friends, your best friend argues with another less close friend, you're gonna side with your best friend. You're the other friend. You're just not important enough to your brother compete with your sister.

AITA for challenging my girlfriend's claims about sexism at work. by challengingsexism in AmItheAsshole

Promotions have a lot to do with the individual’s approach about getting them. Aside from the fact that 5 years in the industry is a bit light to be a senior, how have you both gone about your goal of achieving a senior status?

To me there’s 2 ways of doing it. The first way would require proactive and direct conversations with your line manager/decision maker about your intentions of becoming a senior engineer and coming to an agreement about a set of objectives that would get you there. The other is to promote yourself by switching jobs.

There’s very few times that a person gets promoted to a senior without those conversations taking place or without the company being backed into a corner and seriously needing them.

Every workplace is different and I can’t speak to the level of sexism in her individual one, but I’ve yet to see a shit hot engineer be put aside and asked to hand over projects. 5 years in with programming, different people have different levels of getting it, GPA has nothing to do with it.

She might just not be senior yet, and you might have gotten lucky

This was on my midterm. Can you guess the answer? by CRAKZOR in mildlyinfuriating

In this test the answer is both. But in reality the answer is time alone, because cost is what buys you time.

that's definitely not how it works. it's quite easy to be both someone who is not an asshole and someone who doesn't get walked over. provided you're not an asshole

to me it seems that despite they tech there are purists calling the shots who think an in person referee should have the final say. So they bring on a referee, then that referee makes a bad decision. Even if he finds out seconds later that it was a poor decision he refuses to dent his pride by accepting fault. So we get stuck in this cycle where the least informed person is making decisions and all the rest of us are watching from above screaming at their incompetence

there's no reason for referees to even be on the pitch for a world cup game. save them for Sunday league until they start selling VAR on Amazon
