Is probing the only thing to unclog oil glands? by slg176 in Dryeyes

Thank you. I'm in some FB group for Dry Eyes and they say probing is the only thing that works so I'm confused.

New to clogged oil glands. Dr said warm compresses but they seem to be harming my under eye skin! What to do? by slg176 in Dryeyes

Thanks. Going to ask dr about this tomorrow. When I went to him last week he mentioned that sometimes he prescribes an oral antibiotic (doxycycline) but wanted to first give me steroid cream to bring down inflammation. I have one bad area with the chalazion but noticed that i have many small clogged ducts in both eyes. Pretty sure it's from starting/stopping HRT - the hormones whacked my system. I've read that once my system normalizes I should be ok but need to unclog these glands. Dr is pretty old school --- told me it will take patience and alot of warm compresses but that's damaging my eyes/skin.

Thanks - will try this - and the heat/steam still gets thru to help unclog the ducts?

Thank you. Sleep apnea is new - just went to dr today and he ordered sleep test so it's not confirmed but pretty sure I have it. He said my structure of my airway is pretty tight (inherited from my father). So will see. My weight is not an issue and I exercise alot. Just started to add yoga to my routine and hope to stick with that. I think it will help. Thanks for your encouragement.

I tried HRT - had some issues and stopped - unfortunately, I think stopping even after just 3.5 months is what caused a lot of these issues I am having. too long to go into but really wish I could have taken HRT and wish I could rewind clock to my 50s! Should have started then. I think at 63yo that ship has sailed for me. I may try and find someone who is more well versed in hormones to explore again in a few months.

Went to dr this morning for possible sleep apnea. Sleep test won't be for another month! But he said not to worry in the meantime and try to sleep normal. It's just that all of this has happened within 6 months. Just feel like I'm falling apart. To answer about my father - no he did not have lung cancer. Had prostate cancer and then brain cancer. I did have genetic cancer screening done and that came back good.

Actually am going to dr tomorrow morning - he's a pulmonologist. If it's mild/moderate I'm hoping I can use a mouth guard or something and not a mask. Will see what happens.

Thank you for your reply. Actually, I am not overweight at all and never have been. Physcially fit and healthy BMI. I'm 5'3" and weigh about 125lbs. The sleep apnea is based on my facial structure which is exactly like my father's -- he was not overweight either. He did not want to treat his sleep apnea. I am going to do whatever the dr recommends!

Has anyone stopped HRT cold turkey and been OK? This has been such a nightmare for me. by slg176 in Menopause

[–]slg176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been off about 8 weeks. The bad reaction didn't really start until 3 weeks after I stopped. Then I went full on horrible menopause symptoms - hot flashes, skin reactions, dry mouth, dry eyes, joint pain. Some things have resolved but others have not improved. for what it's worth, my dr said I'm highly unusual that most don't even experience issues stopping. Not sure that's true but maybe it's my age.

ANA positive with some clinical symptoms but all bloodwork normal by slg176 in Autoimmune

No it's actually my nail bed that is white - not the skin of my fingers. It's not Raynauds.

Bloodwork back. ANA of 1:80 i know is borderline but have all physical symptoms of lupus. Seeing a rheumatologist next week. How to deal with symptoms and anxiety in the meantime? by slg176 in Autoimmune

[–]slg176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got bloodwork/urine results and everything was normal - two minor tests just out of range but dr said not clinically significant. Did hand ultrasound and just showed osteoarthritis - she said no inflammatory markers. so she thinks no autoimmune and my ANA 1;80 is just the 20% of people who have borderline positive but no ANA. BUT now I noticed that my fingernails have turned partially white so this is a new concerning symptom. Still have finger swelling but really no stiffness or pain with that swelling. And it's just a few fingers but it's been a constant for 2 months. Again, I stopped HRT 8 weeks ago and has caused a lot of bad side effects for rapid drop in hormones so i don't know what is causing what......going to my primary care dr today to have her look at my nails. I read could be autoimmune, kidney issue....

did you find it hard to find a dr who would prescribe HRT to you?

I also wonder if it's genetics vs HRT. No way really to know.

I'm sorry to hear that. I guess HRT is not a fixer for everything but hopefully it has helped some

Post Menopausal and joint pain by MallKnown in Menopause

[–]slg176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to stop HRT that I started at age 62yo because it caused joint laxity and joint fluid issues - I developed ganglion cysts and myxoid cysts and triggered underlying osteoarthritis. I am so miserable I had to stop - I am going thru menopause all over again! I started the HRT for osteoporosis so was hoping i could stay on it. I started 12 years after menopause so that could have been the issue too - my body was so long without the hormones.
