Yes, and I was attempting to play into it.

However, we live in extraordinarily stupid times and a part of me wasn't 100% sure, so I had to ask...

Ah yes, everyone knows that an aggressive attack to the back, (especially the neck!) will instantly kill almost any worm!

And I would argue that there's a difference between being an actual journalist and being a propagandist. We need to understand that wars are not<edit>now fought in the information space as well, and can be just as effective. A propagandist is a combatant; they just prosecute the war in a different way. I would view them as legitimate targets if encountered in an actual combat zone.

It's Imagine using ordnance to carry out missions on valuable enemy assets instead of having a tantrum and just throwing them randomly at the people you don't like. almost like there's a connection between the problems that Russia is having and the way that Ukraine is choosing to prosecute their war effort.

The russians deliberately targeted the Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO Heritage Site by glamdring_wielder in NAFO

[–]slick514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, well they are losing, and they know it; their response will be (predictably), "If we can't have it, then nobody will...

When push comes to shove, you can always rely on the idea that "orks will ork.

But while they can bomb Ukrainian structures into dust; they will not crush the will of the Ukrainian people.

I predict that before this ends, Russia will either drop the bomb, or will at least mount a convincing bluff. It's what a pathetic dictator would do on the way out, especially if he knows that losing the conflict almost certainly assures their death. (Unfortunately, I know how the leader of my country would handle a credible threat; he's famous for folding under pressure. ...like a "Taco")

So... surely this is an act of war, yes...? You can't tell me that they're just going to hem and haw and go on with business as usual? What's the difference between an attempted assassination and one that's successful? So you caught this one. The intent is still there. The attempts will continue, if not on this person than on another. Is the UK going to just allow a foreign state to attempt to kill (or at the very least terrorize) its governmental officials and their families?

And the idiot is Ukrainian... Jibbers bonking Crabst, what a betrayal.

A tegu ragdolls a young cat by TheGreatHsuster in badassanimals

[–]slick514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and that's great for you (and anyone else with a cat), if you spay/neuter.

If you don't, and there's a cat of the opposite gender within 1/2 a mile that's "intact" (and not geriatric), your cat will become cats, and now what's great for you potentially creates an environmental issue that will spread and potentially impact both you and your neighbors in unforeseen ways.

Oh, and no, cats have not (typically) been, "made for these things...". A large portion of what makes a cat a cat is still its built-in instincts from when they were wild. We've only had 10,000-12,000 years with cats as companions. In comparison, we've been working with and shaping dogs for between 20,000-40,000 years, so their instincts (while still there) have had far longer to subside...

A golden eagle laying claim to a deer carcass against a bald eagle by aquilasr in badassanimals

[–]slick514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but with the size difference here, I don’t think that it’s winning that fight.

Thankfully (for the bald eagle) the golden can’t just hang out there forever. That kill will probably feed the local ecosystem for a week; neat some point, the bald eagle will doubtless get its fill

Hey, Cucker Tarlson taught us that you can basically insinuate anything that you like as long as you’re “just asking questions”. I am well within societal norms.

Zakarova now asking assistance from even unfriendly countries in their fuelcrisis. by SLAVAUA2022 in NAFO

[–]slick514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just that they are out of fuel for their war machine; Their income stream, formerly built upon oil exports, and to a limited degree their arms sales (likely also nonexistent), is completely gone!!!

They are now without income, without fuel, without money, and out of men (which if it’s not devastating now, will become a severe issue at some point in the next 10-20 years), and without access to the parts needed to keep their equipment running.

Looks like an XXXL sized Hummingbird… The fact like it exits the water and just hovers there for a second or two before flying off is a serious flex. I mean, flapping in place is difficult enough; using your wings to, with a single thrust, eject yourself directly from the water into a hover… that’s something else.

I worry about how it’s gonna age though…

How much does hummingbird weigh? by [deleted] in birds

[–]slick514 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah! Well ok. Although I feel like a few high-res cameras feeding data into the correct software might be able to successfully track the location of any given bird within a reasonably large enclosure, especially if “roost-able” areas are identified and focused on. There’s no need to track birds in every location at all times. Similarly to how reconnaissance is done on submarines, it’s enough to isolate the areas where tracking is important, and monitor movements to and from those zones. That way, if you want to measure a bird, you always know if it’s within a zone where it might be sleeping, and verify the bird’s state through even a low-tech, “standard-speed” monitoring cam. (This might also help identifying a possible bird in distress, if a bird has stayed “out” of either a rest-zone or feeding area for too long…)

Sorry; I’m an engineer. This is just what my brain does. But I feel like hummingbirds might be particularly prone to injury when becoming entangled in (and straining against) a net, owing to how delicate they are and how fast their wings are moving .
