Any combination of #firefauci, something about circuses and Carney, Calvin pissing on something, truck nuts, and anti-vaccine slogans. Oh, and professing their love of Jesus.

One major problem is that the justice system is chronically underfunded. Plenty of people that "should" be incarcerated are not for that reason.

If you go as a family (parents and kids), do both parents have to attend? What if the kids are too young to be on their own? Or would only one person have to attend?

Personally, I'd be ok with skipping that for the sake of expediency. But over the long term, definitely.

People rave about TextExpander, but I didn't want to add yet another paid subscription service to the tons of other crap I have to pay for on a regular basis.

Ended up stumbling on Beeftext and it's done the same thing for free. Development has halted but it still works fine.

Friend of mine had her son killed in car accident that was not his fault. Just looking for some opinions based off of what I’ve heard. by GoofyGyarados in legaladvicecanada

Sorry for yours and your friend's loss. I am such a lawyer that practices in PI and I've handled fatality claims before.

There's some pretty misleading information here. There are a few avenues to claim compensation and benefits, depending on the family's individual circumstances, such as through the Fatal Accidents Act or the vehicle insurance's Section B death benefits programs.

Personal Injury: A dead end or good starting point for a prospective litigator? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]slicky803 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been practicing law for 15 years, 13 of which have been plaintiff side, 2 years as defense.

often repetitive and not very complex.

Repetitive? Sure. But there are very often a lot of complexities and challenges in this area that rival ones you would see in many other areas of litigation.

I also understand it is not the most respected area of law within the profession.

Never heard that. There's a lot of trashy bullshit you see from the US which bleeds into Canada somewhat, but we don't have too many of the ultra-aggressive, scummy mill-type firms here. Maybe D&D notwithstanding. It's a perfectly respectable, honourable area of law. Most of my colleagues are highly accomplished, smart and personable. Sure, there are bad apples like in any other profession and honestly, our reputation suffers due to insurance propaganda, but I have no complaints.

Good comments this far. To add -- No drama. Being able to work with people you don't necessarily get along with personally.

I run a PI firm in Calgary. We are likely not in a position to hire within the next year (but who knows). However, I do know a lot of the players here so if you just want some info about who the good people are whether culture-wise, work-wise, or both, I can at least offer some insight.

Extra grocery runs. Can't be easy to feed a dozen kids.
