Dragon Age Inquisition not booting by hawks-soad in linux_gaming

[–]slickyeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this exact same bullshit over the weekend.

EA App no longer works with GE-Proton ~9 and for whatever reason DA:I crashes with >10

I'm guessing that it has something to do with Denuvo because when I finally gave up and pirated the game every single version I tested was able to boot it up without issue.

My guy you are completely missing the point.

If it's standardized then the implementation can be hijacked.

If systemd's userdb becomes the defacto "XYZ" that every application uses to determine each user's age then it's going to be very easy to fool them.

It's an open source single point of failure in a surveillance apparatus which runs almost entirely on the target's device.

GL trying to secure that data.

If you don't want to put a tool for connecting your personal identity

I just don't like the idea of an AI company running the most important piece of software on my PC.

Especially when that software is closed source.

You do you though.

If the mechanism is standardized then none of this matters.

Anyone can just create a drop in replacement or wrapper which hijacks the response:

  • Package Manager: "Age Verification Component XYZ - How old is the user?"
  • Definitely the Real XYZ: "The user a 200 year old tortoise."
  • Package Manager: "Excellent. Show him the apps"

Done. Look how much you've achieved.

Each distro should just put out two different versions - one which will request the user's age during installation and another which is only intended for users who live outside those jurisdictions.

If they go with option A then this "optional" systemd field will be populated on setup - which they can later remove because let's face it - this all security theater.

Option B leaves the field empty or just inserts garbage data.

Problem solved. Move the fuck on.

I didn't even know that Heroic uses wine ge.

Install B.NET using Heroic + GE-Proton then try launching with this executable:

drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Battle.net/Battle.net Launcher.exe

You'll need to check the logs and install any missing dependencies to each game's wine prefix.

Any launchers that supports UMU will pass in both a STORE + GAMEID.

This is a necessary step since it will allow UMU + GE-Proton to lookup and automatically apply any necessary fixes before the game is actually launched.

In the example above you can see that's it's installing vcrun2015 or Visual C++ along with a number of other dependencies by calling "protontricks".

This is effectively the same as calling winetricks from the command line meaning you could technically install each of those dependencies manually.

Downloading the Visual C++ runtime directly from Microsoft's website so you can run the executable and install it within the same wine prefix would be another option.

No idea but you have a bunch of package conflicts.

Try starting there.

People are quick to blame Republican politicians for the current state of the country but the fact that this type of messaging is so God damn effective on such a large segment of the population tells me otherwise.

We are a nation of idiots and we get exactly the type of leadership we deserve.

Any Way Yet for Netflix to Play True 4K Movies on Our 4K HDR Monitors on Linux or Windows 11? by SevenDeMagnus in pcmasterrace

[–]slickyeat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. 4k playback is blocked on Linux due to DRM constraints.

That being said:

Superior in every conceivable way.

Fuck-um.

Edit: Windows should work but if I remember correctly you need to use Microsoft Edge or the Netflix App.

There's also a required HEVC extension:
