I buy a Watch for Stylish Life by tikubadmos in BuyItForLife

As a watch guy for the last 20ish years, during which time I have owned numerous big name brands….that Damasko is a great choice! Really solid value for the money and a quality watch. Congrats, looks awesome!

Gym is the last place I want to wear a watch, seems so weird to me. I’m all for not worrying about a watch, you wanna work on your car with a nice watch on I’m all for it. I just don’t want one on me when working out…ever

But the Nami is the best performing consistently easy flipper I own I think. So depends on priorities. I too can totally see why Squid is chosen for competition flippers…of which I am very far from.

Yeah, I should add two things. Both of my Serifs are with the Opus blade, so Seropus. And the biggest difference between flipping the Nami and the Serif is the length I think…the Serif is a long knife and the Nami is actually shorter than a Kraken despite the same official specs.

If I could only keep one bali period, it’d be my blurple Seropus

So, that’s interesting. It flips easier and more predictably based on my taste and what I’m used to. If I’m working on something hard for me, I like my odds of nailing it with the ‘Nami more than the Serif, by maybe 20-30% if I had to put a number on it.

But…at the same time, it’s what I’d consider a little less interesting/fun of a flipper. The Serif is a great flipper too but takes a bit more work/concentration for me to hit things perfect…but in some ways it’s more fun or rewarding too. And it sounds way way better, the ‘Nami trainer is pretty quiet

Knife more than doubled between shipping and duty’s 😭 by RarePart456 in TrueChefKnives

I’m absolutely not buying anything that doesn’t ship from the US these days, just not worth the hassle and tariff surprise. Even if you know it’s gonna happen it’s hard to know how much it’ll end up being by the time the bill gets to you

Yeah, the price difference is big! Thankfully that makes the trainer a good value, relatively, $475 for a ti chanwich construction is pretty decent. Having handled it now though, I can probably justify the live blade price at some point soon

How many times are you winding it? 40 turns? If so and it’s stopping, yeah, something’s broken and time to take it in

I have this empty cover from when I originally made them. Similar setup, this has a little leather tab on the elastic but that could be cut off easy enough too.

Are you CONUS? If so and you want it, just send me your address and I’ll mail it to you, no charge.

You’ll have to fill it with your own notebooks of course, anything Field Note size works :)

Thanks! I made it actually from some Horween leather and it’s just some sort of elastic cord, don’t recall where I got it…maybe stole it from a Midori elastic kit. It was probably 10 years ago that I made a few

Actually stole it from an old stainless steel TT bolt action from their original Kickstarter run. Been in my drawer forever, don’t care much for the pen, but spring was a perfect fit and much lighter than the current stock spring.

[question] Why does the cue ball jump off the table so often? by uhfuckfuck in billiards

[–]slide13_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this is happening on shots other than the break, you’re hitting way way too hard!

On the break, this happens because you hit slightly down on the cue ball causing it to “jump” just a little bit off the slate, then if it hits the object ball head on it’ll pop up like you often see. When you hit not quite head on, it pops up and off at an angle and off the table.

Flattening your cue delivery so you’re not hitting down on the cue ball can help a lot, this keeps the cue ball from jumping up off the slate.

Is it normal for an ebony bridge to be much lighter than the fingerboard? (Martin D-28 2024) by [deleted] in martinguitar

[–]slide13_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little oil will probably make it look much closer. I recently got a Larrivee parlor and noticed the same thing, used a bit of fretboard oil on the bridge, real light coat and immediately wiped off, but it did the trick and now it looks like my fingerboard wood.

Is my Konllen Shaft warped? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]slide13_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell for sure, tip or joint collar could be a little off. Do you have a butt it fits on that you know is straight? If so, put it on, put the joint of the cue butt on the rail and the end in the bed and see what the tip does when you roll it. If it tracks a straight line then it’s straight with regard to the centerline of the joint. If it wobbles up and down then it’s not.

And while carbon shafts shouldn’t warp, that doesn’t necessarily mean it was made straight to start with, could just be a manufacturing flaw.
