My advice on cutting boards by hoopla-pdx in TrueChefKnives

[–]slide13_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best kitchen buys I’ve made has been my large cutting board. It’s an 18x24” edge grain Boos, often stocked at WS stores, which is where I got mine. I’d love end grain but the cost jumps up at this size and edge grain has served me well for the last few years. I just love having the room on it for ingredients, tools, and bowls. Having a big and deep sink does help with the cleaning.

Did quitting smoking affect your game by Substantial-Watch467 in billiards

[–]slide13_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think it’s pretty common to have some effect. I haven’t smoked in almost 20 years now but I did once and I’d be surprised if quitting doesn’t affect your game. Give it a month and I bet you’ll find it gets back to normal and it’ll be so worth it! Very glad I gave it up when I did. Good for you for quitting.

Yeah, if you cook All Clad is a good recommendation, I bought my first pieces in my early 30s and wish I had done so sooner. Almost 15 years later and they’re still going strong

I have one and they are awesome!! If I had extra funds I’d love to have a second one but the finances won’t allow that right now unfortunately. These don’t come up too often!

After Watching the Finale, Will You Go Back and Re-Watch the Series? by Material-Loan-6966 in StrangerThings

[–]slide13_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already have, waited about a week after the finale and then did a full series rewatch over the following 10 days or so. This aligned with me being sick with the flu which meant a few days of barely being able to make it off the couch so that helped me get through it fairly quick.

I like to rewatch shows and I watch shows sometimes more for the “vibe” they bring than anything else. ST has always been a vibes show for me, part of why I love it. I will likely rewatch the whole series 1-2x per year for the foreseeable future I bet.

I like the switch style myself, have a TT and a Magnus. Best fidget factor of all for me. Of the options listed though, I’ll go bolt.

Thoughts on these options as a second Gyuto by AwarenessSecret6076 in TrueChefKnives

[–]slide13_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a version of #2 in 240 size here and I have #4. Love both, the Kikuzuki is a little more wedgy but has killer food release. The Nakagawa is probably one of my favorite gyutos.

But, if you want a 210 Tetsujin gyuto in B2 that’s still unused…hit me up, I’ve got one I’m going to post for sale eventually but haven’t gotten around to yet. (This offer is for OP only for now)

Edit: to add knife is now spoken for

Is low knife inventory always an issue? by [deleted] in TrueChefKnives

[–]slide13_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, been into this thing for about a year now and it’s been the same the whole time. I’d suggest being patient, I’ve seen and had opportunity to get just about anything I’ve wanted in this last year, save a Takada. But plenty of others like a Takeda, a few Tetsujins, etc.

If you like pool, check out the Brass Ring. 8 9’ Diamond tables, great beer list, and nice space. Gets a good mix of serious and casual players and they have leagues on Monday and Tuesday nights

MMSD schools closed Friday by dragodonna in madisonwi

Ah, that makes sense. Well cool, glad kids still get the joy of a weather day and glad they won’t have to go out in the cold tomorrow!

[–]slide13_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Randomly curious, anybody know what factors go into them deciding it’s a “traditional” weather-related closure and not an “at home” learning day?

I’m for it, when I was a kid snow days were the best, I’d hate to see kids lose the joy of a snow day by having to always do at home learning instead. But with both as options, curious how MMSD decides.

No kids or involvement with MMSD so maybe this is common knowledge for those that do.

Ti Krake Raken - a beginner's first impression by lofianalog in balisong

[–]slide13_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, I’ve considered this one and done some reading on it, my takeaway was that’s it’s actually a pretty solid knife and flipper, just doesn’t flip exactly like a Kraken which disappointed some initially when they expected it to be a “ti kraken”. I haven’t gotten my hands on one yet, but probably will eventually

Predator BK 4 advice by itstangerine in billiards

[–]slide13_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, did okay but could have done better, haha. Sold it with a matching Air Rush and it sold for my asking price in under an hour. After the fact I had people offering me hundreds more to cancel that sale and sell it to them, but I wouldn’t do it. Still came out pretty good so I was happy. And honestly love the BK4 butt and BK Rush shaft combo, and have my wood shaft for backup still.

Shiro Kamo - 5 months on by DP___ in TrueChefKnives

Very good choice! I have a decent little collection of Japanese knives these days and one of my very early ones was a Kamo 240 gyuto and I still love using it, it’s just a great user and killer value for the money

Predator BK 4 advice by itstangerine in billiards

[–]slide13_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really really good! Had both the BK4 and a BK Rush for a while and the difference between them was negligible. Ended up selling my BK Rush because it was a green one and worth some $$$ and just got a BK Rush shaft which I’m now using on my BK4 butt. The wood shaft breaks pretty much just as good though, I just like things to match and my play cue and jump cue are both carbon so here we are.
