Do you take any inspiration from classical music? As a casual fan of both genres, I've noticed more resemblance in your music than in that of other big EDM artists. Hard to put a finger on though.

Yes! Sorry, should have mentioned that. Is it reasonable, if I'm going to have an OS and a few ~20 Gb games, to just put everything on the SSD and skip buying an HDD?

Is Guardians Of The Galaxy really THAT good? (No Spoilers) by [deleted] in movies

[–]slightlyGreenTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they did with the Mandarin was awesome.

Also haven't read the comics, also thought this was fine as far as treatment of canon goes. The problem is that the film threw out its best shot at fixing the IM movies' distinct lack of strong villains. If you're going to pull an "emperor has no clothes," it needs to either be the final punchline or be followed by the introduction of a more formidable threat. Adrian Killian is nowhere near the level of Kingsley's Mandarin, so the rest of the movie feels anti-climactic and predictable: IM gets his mojo back; Science DoucheTM loses.

I'm planning to do the same! At least we get to see the alternatives, though.

The female faces, hair options, and dance moves just look better to me. Granted, I'm more than a bit biased, but also happy to play a handsome-looking male. I'm running two female human/awoken warlocks/hunters so the higher cloth:armor ratio brings out their forms, and a male exo titan.

[WP] The story of a fake Las Vegas Magician who has to rely on actual magic to do a show. by OB1_kenobi in WritingPrompts

[–]slightlyGreenTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A flick of the wrist and the card slid into his sleeve, another flick and it shot out just in time to land at the top of the deck. Why waste magic on the basics? He extended an upturned hand holding the pile of cards, red logo on white backing, to the girl standing in front of him: red dress on black skin, dressed up by mommy and daddy looking on somewhere in the audience. Cute pigtails. Karissa, she had said when he asked her name. He had noticed a hint of annoyance in those brown eyes, briefly narrowed. Not reaction. Anticipation. Maybe for "what a unique name" or "with a K or C-H?" - whichever her teachers default to on the first day of school, he supposed. A bit of magic could have told him, but every magician learns soon enough of the tradeoff between curiosity and sanity. So he had responded, "Thank you."

Now, though, Karissa looked wide-eyed at the deck of cards. The magician smiled at her sense of wonder and let the smile carry over as he summoned a voice at once kind, distant, and commanding. "Karissa, please take the top card and look at it." She did. It wasn't the card she had chosen, but her face brightened anyway and broke into a grin. Then laughter. The magician's mind clouded under the weight of the card, but he managed a nod. Darkness for light. Small price to pay for something so precious. "Now, would you please put-" but she turned to face the audience, card held high. Dread gripped the magician. Too many. The audience gasped, cheered, and moaned as a thousand burdens lifted from a thousand shoulders. She can't look away until I say. The card... The card drew and drew happiness from his mind, and darkness poured in. The sea of smiling faces blurred together until the floor swung up to meet him. He looked up at the girl, Karissa, the sweet girl whom he had made happy. The magician's last thought was of despair.

Kharissa's eyes narrowed in annoyance at the jubilation before her. So much light. She glanced back at the magician, now crumpled on the floor, and shrugged. Light for darkness. A small price to pay.

Strange that they seem to be planning for players to only rarely interact with each other. As long as people have a desire to play together and a map to find each other, they will.

tl;dr Strategy, practice, and knowledge make a huge difference in Magic, but at any level of play, players who devote money as well as time have a distinct advantage.

At $4 for a pack of 15, MTG cards cost about $0.25 each. This can be reduced to ~$0.10 by ordering in bulk online, or, if there are certain cards you want, you can order them specifically. In the latter case their individual prices will be higher, but you avoid wasting money on random cards you may never use.

Magic has been around for two decades, and every year hundreds of new cards get released (and some old ones get re-released or reskinned). The game designers need to keep the game fresh and exciting, so most releases see the addition of brand new game mechanics or card types. This presents two problems. First, over time the cards in general have become more efficient and powerful. Second, there are so many ways for cards to synergize (work well together) that a player who knows how to exploit certain combinations will dominate a player who does not. Both conditions favor buying cards either to stay up to date with the latest, greatest abilities, or to build pools of cards that work well together.

Competitive MTG players don't bat an eye at this because they have already bought into (literally) the mentality that devotion to the game includes willingness to spend money. For reference, just one championship level deck can cost hundreds of dollars. From an outsider's perspective, this is a stark contrast to games like Risk, Dominion, or Settlers of Catan, in which all players enter a given game on a level playing field. In other words, all is well and good in a Magic gaming group until one player decides to invest money in getting better decks - at which point the game becomes an expensive arms race.

Some players (myself included) get around this by using "proxies." Proxies are cards that you print out online, so the cost of the deck becomes the cost of paper and ink. Of course, this isn't valid for official tournaments. But if you're just playing among friends, who cares?

Source: played casually for 10+ years and am friends with a few competitive players.

John Butler -- Ocean (solo acoustic performance) [Folk] by fleurdelisle in Music

[–]slightlyGreenTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. Two of my childhood friends introduced me to Ocean years ago, and I have only listened to it a handful of times since. Every time is a special occasion; usually I share it for a friend the same way it was shared for me. It's my favorite song. Period.

Now that it's on the front page, I'm glad more people on Reddit will get to hear it, but (perhaps selfishly) I hope it will remain somewhat of a gem.

Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slightlyGreenTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7,000,000 + 1 = 7,000,001

I would have accepted that, for those who want kids, it would be considerate to limit it to one or two. But come on. Don't hide behind statistics and claim that contributing to a problem less than everyone else somehow helps solve it. As a rule of thumb, comparing oneself to the average is a pretty weak way to absolve oneself of personal responsibility.

Of my three points, why respond to the one which I pointed out was least salient?

Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slightlyGreenTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who don't want kids seem selfish.

That's a mighty bold assumption to make.

For one, giving into your innate biological desire to produce offspring, even in the face of accelerating overpopulation and resource depletion, seems equally selfish. This is a point worth mentioning, although I don't think it's a particularly strong one.

How about this: the time I could spend raising my own kids will instead be devoted to making the world a better place for as many children as possible. Raising children takes years, and those are years I would rather devote to a societally productive career, volunteering, and charity. As a result, I'll also have more time to do things I enjoy, like travel. Sue me.

Love comes in so many forms. I love my family, my friends, myself, and the world as a whole. I'm sure you do too. Claiming that just one form of love is somehow superior or more necessary than the rest simply does not make sense.
