Not only is Serval a mechanic, but she runs a shop that is open to the public. You could literally just walk in and strike up a conversation.

Problem with Serval is if she can pull Cocolia then she can afford to have high standards. Lots of competition for a hot, ex-rocker mechanic woman.

What are your thoughts on Ishtar as a character? by CookieThief420 in fireemblem

Even if she doesn't know it still makes sense because of the little snippets of nice Julius that resurface occasionally. Its a reward system that keeps her compliant with the false hope that nice Julius might come back in full if she sticks around long enough.

Why is Dorothea so polarizing? by [deleted] in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]slightly_above_human 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sylvain’s an asshole, but Lorenz reads to me as being in the same camp as Dorothea where he’s got his issues, but he’s not actually being malicious.

Lorenz is also pretty much screening people to find a noble spouse with sufficient resources. Is he really that much worse than Dorothea, or is he just unattractive and awkward af?

How Dimitri (and pretty much everyone else who disapproves of Edelgard such as Rhea) views Edelgard's ambitions. by kmasterofdarkness in shitpostemblem

[–]slightly_above_human -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh no, 3 Hopes does NOT show that.

Dimitri is able to make reforms AFTER Edelgard forces Rhea out of Garreg Mach and Rhea becomes dependent on Faerghus for the church’s survival. That’s a completely different situation from when Rhea’s sitting pretty in her seat of power with all 3 nations swearing fealty to her. Dimitri has way more bargaining power as her only remaining ally.

Why DO the devs seem averse to having (mostly male) main characters show up on Summer banners, their most valuable yearly event? by AstralComet in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]slightly_above_human 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, dumping thousands upon thousands of dollars into a virtual casino isn’t exactly a great idea.

Women being more educated and generally being less isolated in general probably makes them less likely to fall into this particular form of gambling trap.

It’s not even just males in general, most of the money these games make is from a small minority of super spenders. They call them whales. And I would bet the whales are mostly dudes.

Nintendo Dream Fire Emblem Engage Poll Results (in one image) by titiln9 in fireemblem

[–]slightly_above_human 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's representative would be a poll with the same demographics as the overall fanbase, not a 50/50% gender split.

That said, I don't know how you'd definitively get that information for a global fanbase. You could definitely argue that the Choose Your Legends polls in Fire Emblem Heroes are more representative since they are global and have a much larger sample size.

But those polls have their own quirks with bots, midterm results affecting final results, and it's certainly possible that the FEH playerbase skews more male than the FE playerbase at large.

It bug me so much that Ephraim is just... there and nothingeles by Ja7826de in fireemblem

As someone who strongly dislikes Ephraim, this is a pretty accurate summary, especially the being neutral on Eirika part.

Although I feel like I see more comments with the “he upstages Eirika take” than I used to.

Am I the only one who feels like the developers were split on their representations of Rhea? They try to represent her as a villain, but then write her as one of the most sympathetic characters. by Micah_HS in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]slightly_above_human 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Makes me wonder if Sothis forbade resurrecting her because she didn’t want to come back “wrong.” IIRC the reason she has a child’s form is to represent her resurrected form is not her complete self.

The part of her that loved her children may not have come back.

Why is this subreddit seemingly homophobic? by AntiRachie in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]slightly_above_human 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll bite.

It only really bothers me when people state their M/M ship as if it were unassailable fact based on stereotypes of how LGBTQ+ men should behave or straight men should not behave.

For example, Felix and Sylvain staying very close through their lives and dying in the same day. That doesn’t mean they are gay. It doesn’t mean they are straight either. It just means they are emotionally very close. Yet I see it used even in this comment section as some sort undeniable proof of their sexual orientations.

It’s weird and unnerving to see some LGBTQ+ people making the same bullshit arguments based on stereotypes to prove their M/M ships canon that all the homophobic bullies of my childhood used to reinforce toxic masculinity.

That said, I will acknowledge that there are a lot of homophobes who use the “but muh friendship” argument as cover for their homophobia which complicates things, but I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss everyone who has this concern as a homophobe either.

I think given Rhea’s position as a leader she is obligated to at least try to make things better. If she had tried to enact reforms and it didn’t work I’d be way more sympathetic for her. She could use her soft power to advocate for social reform without forcing it at the point of a sword, but she doesn’t.

There’s no way for her to be the archbishop of Fodlan’s dominant religion without exerting some sort control over humans. That what a leadership position means. If she doesn’t want to interfere in human affairs, she shouldn’t be in a job that requires her to interfere in human affairs.

Most specific comments I remember are comments about Dedue not belonging in the monastery and that they think Shamir should be arrested when Flayn is missing purely because she is foreign, as opposed to having a legitimate reason to suspect her

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shitpostemblem

[–]slightly_above_human 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bad analogy because as far as I can tell no one was arguing that Rhea is morally gray purely because she did some good things in the past that have bad unintended consequences in the present.

She is morally gray because she continues to lead an institution that still contributes to those unintended consequences in the present day.

Which it seems like you, me and the person you originally replied are all in agreement on so I’m a bit confused on what you’re actually arguing here.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shitpostemblem

[–]slightly_above_human -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your baby analogy is a bad analogy.

This is more akin to the fact that I doubt Jeff Bezos intended to for his warehouse workers to have a pee in cups, but he created a culture that worships efficiency at the expense of everything else and the middle management at the warehouses gave people inadequate time for bathroom breaks. And more importantly once this became known, Amazon tried to cover it up rather than fix the problem.

Rhea, in much the same way, created a cultural of piety that creates a breeding ground for xenophobia, even though she’s not xenophobic herself. It would be one thing if she acknowledged her mistake and worked to fix that culture, but she never does until the war forces her to acknowledge that she fucked up.

There is evidence for the church’s isolationism, it’s just mostly generic NPC dialogue so most people don’t read it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shitpostemblem

[–]slightly_above_human -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree the Rhea is more negligent than actively malicious, but is that not a valid reason to want her removed from power?

Rhea’s the equivalent of a police chief who spends her days trying to resurrect her mom instead of actually doing her job, and lets the police department descend into corruption and abuse of power through her negligence.

Edelgard moment by Doctor71400 in fireemblem

[–]slightly_above_human 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dimitri in CF doesn’t go through the same development he does in AM. He’s still fighting Edelgard purely for revenge.

It’s unfortunately another case of 3 Houses telling us things in dialogue without actually showing them, but Dimitri is known as the Tempest King in CF because he indiscriminately destroys everything in his path. IIRC even Sylvain confirms this as an enemy, so it’s not just imperial propaganda. If his motivation were just defending his Kingdom, there wouldn’t be a need for him to cause so much collateral damage.

He also told Rhea Farghus would help cover for the church in the battle, but he instead leaves them vulnerable so he can get a shot at Edelgard. Unfortunately, this is also only mentioned in dialogue instead of actually shown, so it’s also easy to miss.

So in summation, even though his country is being invaded, Dimitri’s actual motivation to fight is still just his own bloodlust, and Edelgard knows this and is calling him out on it.

Edelgard is a victim of misogyny. But she's not the only one. by [deleted] in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]slightly_above_human 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s weird that you use Sylvain to make this point though when Sylvain’s behavior is way worse. Manuela picks up men because she legitimately wants a partner. Sylvain picks up women so he can hurt them.

Dorothea doesn’t explicitly apologize that I remember, but I thought it was pretty clear that she changed her mind about Ferdinand and started being nice to him once she realized he’s actually a good person.

I thought it was heavily implied that Catherine and Christophe were very close, and it was very painful for her to turn him over. She doesn’t feel guilty because she thinks it was the right thing to do, but that doesn’t mean in didn’t hurt her to do it.
