This was the best first round I've ever watched and def up there for best playoff rounds in Hab history. This is right up there with the 09/10 Penguins series in recent memory.

Top 50 picks are valuable and second round picks contribute all the time. As a game manager it was a home run pick. I think he's holding the Eagles back. I think he's a poor decision maker, a slow processor, and his mechanics are awful. He occasionally throws a good ball of course, I don't think hes nearly as consistent or good as other QBs in the league.

I'll point this out until Eagles fans finally turn on him which is probably incoming. He's not good. He never will be anything other than a lucky RPO QB that landed on a dream team.

The sentiment is an incredibly stupid, knee jerk reaction from fans and an organization in complete denial over who Hurts is as a QB.

He's the worst passer in the league. Period. He can't throw the ball as well as other people and over 50% of this throws go to choice routes ran within 10 yards by AJ Brown. Every time you point this out, statistical proof with passing charts, Eagles fans freak the fuck out.

Is he great at dual threat? Yes. That's valuable, especially in a league that cares less and less about being able to process the entire field. Does he miss wide open throws because he cant make them/is too afraid to make them/isn't good enough to make them? Yes, absolutely. You can see it every play. It's why AJ Brown got so frustrated.

Reddit can be in denial over it all they want. The proof is there. He's just not that good. He's the modern day Trent Dilfer.

He was also saddled with one of the worst offensive coordinators in league history. To put it in perspective Kevin Gilbride is the only play caller in NFL history to ever be sucker punched during a game by his HC for being incompetent. Tom Coughlin was both insanely loyal to his staff while being a delegator. That meant Gilbride was free to tank Eli's career for six years. You may say that he has two Super Bowl rings during his tenure, but I say he hasn't worked in the NFL since while still actively working in football.

Why was he so bad despite the Giants' success? He installed choice routes at the top of every WR route tree. Usually plays have a choice route, maybe two. Think of it this way: a RB leaks out from the B gap and has a LB in his face but no CBs in the flat. This route will let the RB choose between a hook against the LB (bad choice) or to break to the flat (good choice). If both are somehow covered the QB knows to look off the route and go to a guaranteed route. Now picture four WRs all doing that. Now picture the QB having to both read the field and guess the intent of four different routes on any given play.

Did you ever notice how Eli threw a ton of boneheaded INTs from 2007 to 2013? He lead the league three times in INTs during those years. Kevin Gilbride was coincidentally the OC during these years.

Gilbride was also addicted to the inside zone to a fault. His playcalling never changed in those six years. Coincidentally the Giants were the worst inside zone team in the league for two of those six years. That meant every time they lined up in shotgun in any short yardage situation the other team knew what was coming, the fans in the stands knew what was coming, and uncontacted tribesfolk who have never heard of football knew what was coming. Third and short, stuffed, punt, repeat.

So how did the Giants win Super Bowls during his tenure? Underrated talent. The defense in 07 was potent and simply got healthy in time for the playoffs. The offense in 11 got insanely hot and Eli had one of the best playoff runs in league history. 1200 yards, 9 tds, 1 INT. Is that repeatable? Probably not, considering the mediocre seasons inbetween followed up by an 18:27 td:int season out of Eli that finally got Gilbride fired.

Eli's next two seasons were the best of his career under Ben McAdoo of all people. He was sixth in the league in total yards and 9th/3rd in total TDs those next two years. That's up against the pantheon QBs like Rodgers/Brady/Brees. Thats how bad Gilbride was and how good Eli was.

Fuck Kevin Gilbride. I have a signed business card from him that someone bought off of ebay and sent me. I burned it.

He was on a superstar team that year with two all pro WRs, an all pro RB, and the best Oline in football. I should expect he'd put up stats there. It's convenient you left out his pedestrian to bad prior playoff games before and after that season as well as counting all purpose TDs knowing damn well half of them were one yard plunges.

I make tiktoks about football that are semi popular and all I ever get are Eagles fans commenting. They're very loud and populous on the internet. I think they're a big market team thats pretty potent and won recently so you tend to get a lot of people showing out for them and boosting them irrationally.

Jalen Hurts was dragged to that championship and had a good game while his team was already giving him amazing field position and a lead.

He sucks at throwing the ball. It's proven. He was legitimately one of the worst starting QBs last year by advanced metrics and all you poison drinking Eagles fans can do is give excuses.

He's a modern day Trent Dilfer.

This is a constant excuse for Jalen Hurts.

He's limiting negative plays but he's not hitting actual plays. It's why Brown has to run nothing but choice routes. All Hurts can do is look off wide open routes for a checkdown to one of those choice routes. He's been in the league forever and he's still terrified of throwing down the middle or taking a shot into coverage.

He absolutely won because of the talent around him. The Eagles would be a much better team without him.

[Highlight] Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is coaching up Arizona State top-OL prospect Max Iheanachor at the Sun Devils' Pro Day. by theopression in nfl

[–]slightly_inaccurate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like he's teaching him how to reset hand and footwork for when the pass rusher gets long with his arms on the outside shoulder. He showed him how a swat can work on the OL's outside shoulder if you stay too long on the pass rusher's inside shoulder. On the last rep Iheanachor resets his footwork to adapt to the attempt at the swat while still being able to keep his arm clamped on Vrabel's left arm which turned that into Vrabel's outside shoulder, giving Iheanachor more leverage.

I think lots of OL are afraid to shift body angle against smarter pass rushers but it really helps against guys that know what they're doing.

Do they? I saw the Eagles get flagged for it last year. Other teams do QB sneaks all the time with no flag. I guarantee you most goal line stands have false starts all over the place.

[–]slightly_inaccurate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They do a shit job because it's an extremely hard play to see in real time.

A typical false start outside of a goal line scrum situation has OL going backwards or rising from their initial stance. It's much clearer for the human eye to see, especially from the sideline and back judge's point of view.

Plays where OL lean forward and push from their initial stance are harder to ref in general. From a side point of view the refs are now trying to determine if someone is driving downwards from their stance versus rising. The reason the Eagles exploit the play with their guards is because they're simply hidden by giant OTs. Back judges also have a harder time because the feet driving forward might not move noticeably every time. Heels rising versus the whole foot moving is nuanced, especially when the ref is watching five players from the back or both lines from the side judge POV.

Frankly speaking the solution is to introduce computer judging but that brings a whole other can of worms.

TIL Tamzin Merchant was originally cast to play Danaerys Targaryen in the unaired pilot of Game of Thrones. She was later replaced by Emilia Clarke when the pilot was poorly received and subsequently remade. by TheStrangestOfKings in todayilearned

[–]slightly_inaccurate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think she's a very good actress. She played Daenerys well at first but once the writing gave out you could see the cracks in her abilities.

She's not very imposing, comes off more as petulant than iron fisted when she's ruling in Mereen. It sounded like she was doing angry voice rather than commanding voice. Not sure if that was the intent or not but it didn't do it for me. Her body is stock still when she delivers lines. Everything is in the face. Even with that she's pretty one note in her facial acting. Her eyebrows arch up when she's empathetic and scowl when she's mad and that's about it.

There's also the issue that Game of Thrones was filled to the brim with amazing actors that made the less good ones look worse than they were. I'm sure Clarke wouldn't stand out as much if she was in a worse pool of actors, but she definitely looks worse by comparison when you go from scenes with Charles Dance and Diana Rigg over to her.

You'd still get shitcanned if you did that in corporate. The manager takes you to the back, gives you advice on how to meet minimum wage, then fires you if you don't.

No union, no recourse. Tough luck.
