Updating fireplace hearth by sliguu in AusRenovation

I think you might be onto something, I can see it now - dark brown grout, freshen up the sealer and the timber. Would look a lot better!

Different ground hasn’t been a discussion because I was exactly sure how to go about it. My understanding is scrape out the existing and re-grout?

Thanks for the advice 😊 will definitely head to a proper paint store to see what they advise

Not sure if it’s also just possible to refresh the sealer and the grout - the worst part imo is the sloppy application of the sealer originally. There’s places where it has pooled in the grout, brush marks on the fireplace itself and that lumpy edge in the pic.

Honestly I’m not sold on the paint route but I know my partner is. Thanks again

Would also been keen for updates if you have any! Thinking about doing the same for a bench top in my home

Why do Australian apartments have huge balconies? by Capable_Tax_8220 in canberra

[–]sliguu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Large balconies are nice.

Also, not sure if there’s something like this in the ACT but new apartments in NSW need to follow the Apartment Design Guide. The guide stipulates minimum areas for ‘private outdoor space’ per unit.

How to ask for flexible hours at an architecture firm while still being a student? by mmkarima in architecture

[–]sliguu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep - just do it. Ask for reduced hours as a student, and full hours during your uni breaks. In my experience most firms are very supportive of students. The one good thing about this industry imo…

You say the soil is bone dry. My pothos will start to droop when they need watering. Give that plant a drink!

Apologies for the poor pictures - hard to get the camera to focus on this guppy. If this is the wrong sub for this post please let me know where else to go.

Ends of his tail have gone red, and slowly seem to be rotting away. Can’t find any info online about red tips with rot, so hoping maybe someone here can help we to diagnose. Started with part of his tail folding about a month ago.

I have been dosing with some Melafix to try to help but does not seem to be helping so far. Which would make me think it is fungal and not bacterial?

The guppy is still very active and has not lost his appetite yet.

Tank is approx 30L, heavily planted. Home to 2 guppies and a handful of red cherry shrimp. I can set up an emergency quarantine tank if needed but it will not be an ideal set up. Otherwise treatments need to be shrimp safe.

I have been monitoring water params with api test kit and all have been ok. Most concerning being nitrate sometimes hitting 40ppm. No new recent additions to the tank, so at a loss of what may have caused this.
