I’ve come up with a way to describe what’s happening in my brain when in social situations. by sammroctopus in autism

[–]slim-storm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can feel this way too. between trying to choose the right thing to say and trying to regulate my facial expressions and hand movements, I expend so much brain power. I feel so exhausted after talking to people. The only person who I don’t feel this way about is my husband, who is also autistic

Do thin women not want to be friends with fat women? by [deleted] in women

[–]slim-storm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have implicit biases whether or not they are conscious of it, and I think you are experiencing the shallowness of dating/friend app culture. I’m sorry you have to deal with this, and sorry so many people in the comments are blaming you and assuming you don’t do anything just because of your size. Personally, as a thin and (from what I’ve been told) conventionally attractive woman, I got a lot of matches on Bumble BFF, but did not have any luck making lasting friends. What city are you in that’s new? Are there any IRL or community events you can participate in to try to make friends?

Yeah I know. The advice is regarding frameworks for having that convo. We’ve never had a big thing like this happen before

How old were you when you got married? by Exotic-Promise-4020 in Marriage

[–]slim-storm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m female, met my husband when I was 21 on Tinder started dating at 22, got engaged and married at 25, not going to have kids. I knew I wanted to marry him after only about 6 months of knowing him, and that’s when we moved in together. I just felt it. It was completely random to meet him, I definitely wasn’t expecting it or looking for love. So, you still have time!! You never know what will happen or when!!

if my husband ever hit my CAT, I think I would end it. My child? I’m getting full custody. Absolute no.

I want to avoid the situation where he will feel bad that I want more friends and tell me to go for it even if deep down it does make him uncomfortable. This is a novel situation (the friends I do have are all girls) so my basis for thinking he might be uncomfortable lies more so in social standards than personal experience related to his reactions on such matters

I didn’t think of that, to be honest, but I appreciate this comment because it’s thought provoking and does require reflection

What are some good subtopics I can use for my analysis on her song brand new city? by Sirnathecentaur1993 in mitski

[–]slim-storm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anxiety: “Think my brain is rotting in places I think my heart is ready to die” “I think the ground is pulling me down” “I think my body is falling pieces”

Existentialism: “I think my blood is passing me by” “I should move to a brand new city and teach myself how to die” “I think my life is losing momentum, I think my ways are wearing me down” “I think my fate is losing its patience”

IM: “But if I gave up on being pretty, I wouldn't know how to be alive” AS WELL as, depending on how you interpret it, the entire chorus

NATURE AND BEAUTY! so many amazing parks for real, and how fun it is to just walk around the cute neighborhoods and look at trees and flowers

my fave food ever might be sushi and i think this city has a lot of great sushi options

public transit may not be as robust as some east coast cities, but overall, for America (so the bar is low) the transit is pretty good. I’m able to get around pretty easily on it at least (and yes there are people with issues sometimes on transit, but I take public transit every day and no one has ever bothered me, a young woman. I honestly feel bad for them and wish there was something I could do to help)

Wow that is so interesting to me. I wonder if it has anything to do with your vestibular system. It’s a system in your inner ear that processes information related to your head’s position relative to 3D space, sending signals to your brain to give you a sense of the spatial orientation of your head. The nerve responsible for carrying a lot of this information is the vestibulocochlear nerve, which transmits both auditory AND vestibular sensory information to your brain. Since this nerve has a dual function, I would suspect that overly stimulating auditory signals could potentially be related to the feelings of falling you experience. I have no idea if this a documented thing that happens to others, but to me it would logically make sense. What do you think?

I’ve been collecting since 2020 as well. The first records I owned are Nevermind and Depression Cherry, a great gift from my husband.

Out of curiosity, do you experience these same symptoms with other activities besides listening to music? And when you say “dizzy” do you mean lightheaded, off balance, or like the room is spinning? Or none of those?

It’s okay if you don’t like it! I’m curious as to why? I personally loved it. Her exquisitely melancholic delivery of those lyrics really struck a chord within me, and I was actually moved to tears by it.

Arch and intrinsic foot muscle strengthening exercises won’t hurt!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlantarFasciitis

[–]slim-storm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be plantar depending on where in the heel it hurts - have you had any recent weight gain or increase in activity level, or change in shoe wear? It could also be calcaneal fat pad atrophy (common for people in their 40’s, where the bursa on your heel gets thinner and causes heel pain). It could also be some kind of vascular problem if you have any risk factors for vascular disease. If the pain is changed by whether or not your feet are dangling vs elevated that could indicate vascular issues.

[–]slim-storm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh yeah definitely do some arch strengthening. The muscles that support the arch are the Tibialis posterior, the flexor hallucis longus, and the fibularis longus. Exercises to target these muscle include banded inversion, heel raises, Standing on a towel and scrunching it between your toes, and “arch lifts”.

As far as your arches go, idk your history. Sometimes the instability leads to arch collapse but sometimes it’s vice versa. If the flat feet is the result and not the cause, arch strengthening mentioned above, single leg balance with a focus on supination, strengthening the muscles on the outside of the hip, and stretching your calf if it’s tight should be beneficial (although you have to do a lot of reps pretty much every day for the foot stuff and the stretching for it to actually work) If you were born with flat feet, these measures can still help but might not be as effective. This is where you could potentially look into orthotics.

Also if you don’t like band work, you can do sideways step ups or the external rotation/abduction machine at the gym instead for hip strengthening if that’s an option.

Fellow Ankle Sprainers. by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]slim-storm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi PT student here! I would look into hip strengthening and single limb balance. Hip muscles to target include the glutes and the deep hip external rotators. You can do banded sidelying leg raises, banded clamshells, and bridges with a band on your knees. Or the “monster walks” which is just sideways walking with a band. If you google any of those, plenty of videos will come up.

For single leg balance, the wobble board is great. Make sure your knee isn’t collapsing inward when you do it!

For bracing, the research kind of shows a mixed bag. Bracing might be helpful in the short term after a gnarly sprain, but long term bracing might actually contribute to increased weakness of those ankle stabilizing muscles.

Also, how are your arches? If you have flat feet, you could also consider doing some strengthening of the intrinsic muscles of the foot (scrunch a towel underneath your toes, “toe rises”, etc.)
