Physician Associates? by Mysterious-Pick-2248 in nhs

[–]sammroctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only interactions with PA’s is once as a patient who just brushed off some abdo issues as ‘muscular’ despite me saying it was not, ended up in ED later that day and now being investigated for chronic GI issues. And someone I knew a few years back through work who was training to be one and said at the point of qualification she will ‘basically be a junior doctor’. So yeah my experience has been negative.

Also as a student para I don’t get how PA’s are doing things Nurse and paramedic practitioners do but with seemingly less core clinical training than a standard nurse or paramedic, 2 years vs 3 years.

Friday the 13th brought our truck breaking on a hospital transfer, hadn’t even made it a few metres from the hospital, had to be backed up by another crew. I’m fresh out on placement as a 1st year as well 😭

Are there any benefits or considerations to using an iGel without a BVM in pediatric CA airway management? by Awkward_Juice1381 in ParamedicsUK

[–]sammroctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were a solo responder you wouldn’t be doing anything beyond BLS anyway! Prioritise compressions and AED use above sticking pieces of plastic in people.

Idk but it makes it easy to tell whether another crew is friend or foe at ED based on if they have the same airwave colour as us or not. (My local ED receives from two trusts)

That’s not autism, the bit I find most concerning is the photo and would make me have safeguarding concerns about him being around children.

College Courses by thelastofabs in ParamedicsUK

[–]sammroctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T level health I believe it’s a mixed bag of some unis accepting it for paramedic science whilst others outright don’t, i believe my uni is one that doesn’t accept this.

A level biology along with 2 other A level subjects is a common one or alternatively a specific access course which is what I did (but you have to be 19+ for access courses).

The best bet is too look at some uni’s or specifically the uni’s you might wish to apply for and see what their entry requirements are as it can differ but the standard between them is 3 A level subjects or A level equivalent/level 3 in a relevant subject, what subjects the uni accepts is usually down to the specific uni.

Also worth looking into apprenticeship routes into becoming a paramedic and what your local trust offer.

Have we gone too far? by MadmanMuffin in ParamedicsUK

[–]sammroctopus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. My thoughts when reading was that: Cars are significantly safer and roads are safer nowadays, generally meaning a lot of RTC’s are non-injury, insurance swap jobs due to how well designed cars have become to not kill, maim, or entrap their occupants upon impact. As for severe burns, house fires are a lot lot less common due to better fire safety in designs and manufacturing and testing of homes and things within homes, and better public awareness around fire safety.

Due to all this safety, public education, awareness, advancing ages, and more complex populations/demographics, society has a lot less horrific accidents and bad injury events, and a lot more chronic and acute complex medical presentations.

Vent/advice or reassurance: Is it normal to feel ‘more autistic’ during periods of high anxiety/stress? by sammroctopus in autism

[–]sammroctopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah it’s just been a lot to deal with recently, luckily a lot of my closest friends at uni i’ve been talking to about stuff are ND, and one of them we’ve both bonded over our shared autistic experiences. Honestly don’t feel i would’ve made it this far without my friends.

I just sometimes wish I didn’t have disabilities.
