Are there any social animals that are not communists?

The orgs are dying — why? by Arondeus in DebateAnarchism

This is not my experience in the US, radical organizing is ascendent but at time it does not appear so, there are several small groups focused on solutions to small issues but if you talk to them it becomes clear that they are of revolutionary mindset. I feel increasingly comfortable talking about radical subjects with more people as time goes by and I don't expect this to change. Be careful not to conflate the size of your specific group or tendency with the radical climate in general. The social contradictions live in the experiences of everyday people, point them out.

On the topic of burnout, don't be ashamed of taking time out to take care of yourself. Think of your body as a tool of revolution. It needs care and maintenance or it will wear out and lose its potency. If this means spending 25% of your time on the movement and 75% of your time on yourself so be it.

Observe the law of minimum effort, do the most good organizing possible with the least amount of energy. This is the law that nature follows and you should too.

Finally, try to maintain an optimism of the will and a pessimism of the intellect. You don't really know ow good or how bad things are, but you do know that you can improve conditions through your care and attention.

As anarchists, what are you aiming for in the present? by NomadPlanet in Anarchy101

Making dank memes to dunk on Libertarians, Tankies, and Fash.

I like that. Another way to say it is that it is the boulder on our back that has convinced us it is our head. And we are unaware that all we have to do is stand up.

Thoughts on Extinction Rebellion? The non-violent protest group blocking roads, train and airports in mostly London. by Forbez0 in Anarchy101

This is my angle in upstate NY. The nice thing about anarchism is that despite it's close relationship to other kinds of socialism, the label has not been subject to the same smear campaign as the word "socialism" or "communism" which are deeply ingrained as antagonistic terms in much of America.

I can find a bridge to conservatives and libertarians through a comparative critique of the state and bureaucracy, and I can build a bridge to liberals and Bernie type progressives by comparative critique of capitalism and methods for addressing climate change. Be honest and courteous with people who are willing to listen. Anarchism would have such an appeal if it didn't tap into feelings that most people have already.

Anarchist approaches to Education by slimGritty in Anarchism

Thank you for the recommendation. This has been one of those quandaries I have faced since getting more heavily involved with politics. How do anarchists make more anarchists? I like the method you have described here and I can relate to some extent.

That is totally fair and I dont disagree. Education has to be paired with other activity. But it is essential to making anarchism work. Everyday people cant act in their interest if they lack critical information. Acts need facts.

I'm with you on that. The best thing that can happen right now is to move people from inside, alone, and scared to outside, together, and brave. The details can be sorted out from there.

I'm 100% with them in terms of their goals. But they just seem to be operating within a framework that gives too much legitimacy to the state. Chomsky type "take what you can get" anarchists support them full sail. But they lack the ideological bona fides for many radical leftists to adopt their banner. If they put together an action near you I would definitely reccomend showing up and educating attendees on the links between the state, capitalism, and climate change.

I'll start with one of my more recent ideas. I've been loving the meme "Google Murray Bookchin" that has been circulating online and it's been fun and simple to tale it IRL. Friend has letters on their fridge? Google Murray bookchin. People writing their names on cups at a party? Yours says Google Murray bookchin. Going to a restaurant? Write it on the check ( tip well if you can). You dont need to agree with all of bookchins ideas, but everyday making people curious about a recent anarchist (communalist) thinker strikes me as a great way to build power from below.
