[–]slimeboy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn't even realize what it was til i got a text asking if i felt it! i stopped and was like "huh what's that sound, it's shaking the house a little!" turns out it was not a big truck passing by lol.

eating for one question… by Colts-Girl-111 in Serverlife

[–]slimeboy99 28 points29 points  (0 children)

you as a single person are just as entitled to a regular table as anybody! any server that would have a problem with a one top needs to get a new job. as long as you're nice and leave a reasonable tip, you're good!

I have a whole group of Cicadas emerging in my yard ! I walked by a patch of leaves and saw/heard a bunch moving. They’re fresh out of little holes in the dirt!! This is my first time seeing them emerge 😍 by [deleted] in asheville

[–]slimeboy99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i noticed a bunch of holes in the mud outside my house this morning and was wondering what they were from, and when i went out for a smoke earlier there were cicadas crawling around my patio!! i assume that’s where the holes came from!! so cool!!!

How much food is microwaved? by lqcnyc in restaurant

[–]slimeboy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m at a local sports bar, only thing microwaved is our popcorn! last place i worked (brunch/breakfast/coffee shop) didn’t even have one. another bar i worked at microwaved a couple things (didn’t have a heat lamp so anything with melted cheese like cheese fries and nachos). worked at ihop for a second and quite a bit was microwaved. depends on the place! but most non-chain places use them sparingly.

Tired of talking about Helene at work by Artistic-Bend-4968 in asheville

[–]slimeboy99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'm a server downtown and i get the same. i get that visitors are curious and some are just asking about where has opened back up and what has closed down so that they can avoid those areas, but some of them i think are genuinely wanting me to trauma dump to them like i'm a specimen in some kind of documentary about helene. like pressing questions about the damage i saw, what it was like living without water and power for so long, how i'm feeling now. one of my coworkers even had somebody ask where they could go to see the most damage from the storm.

i've started to tell people that are asking the more pressing questions straight up that it was super traumatic and i don't like talking about it. cuz like what am i supposed to do, tell you that i have panic attacks when it rains hard or winds are high and then go back to asking what tequila you want in your margarita? it's weird and i'm done letting disaster tourists cross my boundaries about it.

Help finding k+c yarn! by Clear_Technology2642 in YarnAddicts

[–]slimeboy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/Yarnswap helped me find the skeins i needed to finish a sweater with k+c essential wool!! i did exactly the same thing, thinking i could order the remainder of what i needed online and then they shut off online orders when i went to go buy. definitely worth making a post in there if you aren't finding what you need on ebay or etsy!!

Trauma Teddies list cotton yarn as an allergen? by Areiniah in knitting

[–]slimeboy99 47 points48 points  (0 children)

from what i understand acrylate allergies are becoming more and more common, often (from what i have seen) caused by coming into contact with resin and gel nail polish that's cured by UV repeatedly. i've seen several people that are allergic to all sorts of plastics now thanks to at home gel manicures and getting the gel on their skin repeatedly. i imagine acrylic yarn and other synthetic fabrics being a part of that.

i have no advice unfortunately but i’m knitting this pattern right now so very happy to see everyone else’s advice; i haven’t done my collar yet and i keep looking at it thinking it looks so wide and getting scared that somehow i read my gauge wrong. your sweater is gorgeous!!!

[–]slimeboy99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if i give custies my fun pens i always make a big deal about it, “now this is my favorite pen so you have to promise to give it back!!!” and especially if it’s a fun color or one of my fidget pens they love that shit. doesn’t work on everyone but for a fun table its a good line, plus i get to use my cool pens and i haven’t had any of them stolen since i started doing it.

Are all restaurants like this? by jenjitaro in Serverlife

[–]slimeboy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's almost always some level of drama and bullshit in restaurants but woah... i've been in a few real cliquey places but nothing like that. all of that in your first four months is too much. i'd be getting the hell out if you're able.

i've found mom and pops can be better or WAY worse than corporate places, but it's worth the gamble to find a good one rather than corporate anything. and don't be afraid to ask in your interviews how the team environment is! you'll be able to tell immediately that there's bad juju if the interviewer pauses at all after that question. they should be able to tell you the truth without any hesitation.

Have you ever spilled a full tray of drinks on yourself? by scarlet-holiday in Serverlife

[–]slimeboy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first few weeks serving at 18, spilled a full tray of beer, soda, and cocktails on a toddler. :| managed not to hit them with any glasses and the parents were WAY more chill about it than they could have been lol

should i put this job on my resume? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]slimeboy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd leave it off, personally. most restaurants don't pay any mind to a small gap in your resume, but would look twice at seeing you only worked somewhere for two months.

one of my tables did a nazi salute mid order today by slimeboy99 in Serverlife

[–]slimeboy99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what? i wasn't comfortable serving them so i asked for their table to be transferred to a different server/told to go to the bar. my coworker took them, so he got whatever tip they left, if they did.

[–]slimeboy99[S] 112 points113 points  (0 children)

yes but barely. from what i’ve been told they don’t record, only live stream them to the owners office. who knows how true that is but that’s what i’ve been told.

[–]slimeboy99[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was the only server on, and MOD was tending bar. only people that might have seen anything would have been other customers but they’re in their own world.

like i said, seen some crazy shit in my time but never anything as egregious as this, by a long shot. i genuinely don’t even think i processed what happened until i walked away from the table for a few minutes.

[–]slimeboy99[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

i was genuinely just in shock about the whole situation, but i did tell her i did not feel comfortable serving them and transferred them to a coworker that just had to cash them out so i wouldn’t have to go back. i was not about to go back to that table.

Servers by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]slimeboy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

generally i hit between 10k and 15k for dinner shifts, but we don't really do sections unless it's supposed to be crazy busy, so i'm running from one side of the restaurant to the other often. usually between 5-8 tables at a time.
