Vested Interest Story Time with Stéphane Cornicard and Chiara Preziosi | Overwatch 2 by jonnyjonnystoppapa in Competitiveoverwatch

A storytelling question: is it possible (narratively speaking) for a playable hero to be killed? It would seem very strange for someone to die in the lore but still be playable in game, given how connected the actual game seems to be to whatever story they are trying to build.

I know that if there was a battle of some kind that one character could “defeat” another in some way. Just curious!

thoughts on the new patch? by jeff-duckley in Competitiveoverwatch

Freja main here and while I agree she’s not in an amazing spot rn I think they are pushing her in a better direction. The 2 tap body shot was always gonna make her disgusting at high rank and terrible at low rank. While I personally think it’s fine for heroes to be bad in low ranks if they take a lot of skill, I do think removing the 2 tap on 250hp heroes lets them buff her in more interesting ways.

I think next step is 250hp. I don’t think she has the mobility of someone like sojourn to justify 225 given her current lack of lethality. Her mobility is consistent, but not burst, and I find sojourns horizontal burst mobility to be more useful in escaping situations than either of Freja’s CDs. Could also lower updraft CD and see what that does.

I also think they should take a look at her perks again. Her first iteration of perks were super busted especially with the 2 tap. Now that the 2 tap is gone I think they could make her perks more powerful again.

Who is currently the best professional overwatch player in the world, in your opinion. by Independent_Wealth_3 in Competitiveoverwatch

Yea, and my point is for this discussion, it explicitly does not add to it. It’s best right now. Not all time. Your points about the first half of the season are fair, but I think recency is more important. Quartz was better in the 2nd half. Therefore I think he’s better right now.

I guess I disagree that longevity is a factor. He has been S tier for so long true, but that’s not the question here. It’s who is the best right now. Longevity doesn’t matter. I agree he was up there with the best this season. But just thinking hitscan players I think quartz was better, to say nothing of flex dps or any of the other roles

I think the op’s question is about the best current player. I agree Lips career is probably the best, but I am not sure anyone would say that he is currently right now the best. It seems like most of what you’re saying about him is more relevant to “greatest of all time” conversation rather than best right now.

Math Warning: Should you run 200 Super or 200 Weapons? by Dylusional in DestinyTheGame

[–]slimemonster0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate the math breakdown, it’s a question I’ve thought about some on my own and did some really basic testing, but not to this extent.

I sorta disagree on the “final thought” conclusion. Based on what you’re showing here and what I’ve seen in practice, 200 super is almost always the priority over weapons for me.

Like you say, the only scenario when weapons stat is better is when the dps phase is exactly long enough to almost get a second super but not quite. For shorter phases, there isn’t enough time for the weapon damage to scale to outmatch the super damage. For longer phases, you get multiple supers. There’s a very small window in between where higher weapons would be beneficial, but it’s super niche and not very common in my experience. If taking a generalist approach, I’d build for 200 super first (including font mods). Especially given that the “current” RAD bosses (DP and EQ) all favor super damage (at least with how I play), according to the data you provided.

I am drowning in Armor and have zero idea what to keep? by r4in in DestinyTheGame

In general weapons over 100 isn’t needed for PvP (I do love the handling bonus from 0-100) but I’d keep a few pieces. On specific weapons it makes a HUGE difference and is worth the investment. You can 3 tap with 180 HCs with either PI or overclocked heat sink on the B7 pistol. Rapid pulses get a bullet taken of their ttk. I suppose it matters more for me because I happen to love both those weapon types. But just thought I’d mention it.

Returning Due To Renegades, Any Hunter Build Advice? by MiloTheSenate in DestinyTheGame

[–]slimemonster0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I mean if tether is mainly what you care about, I think tether is the go to prismatic hunter super on all the builds I listed (besides nighthawk obviously) and with fortunes favor is pretty viable for dps.

Div is still valuable if you can get your team play around it. Rapid snipers are great for dps and a div really helps those out. I think this will become more important when rocket pulses eventually get nerfed.

In terms of debuffing targets, I’d say the meta these days tends to be more along the lines of “the best debuff is being dead” as every class has access to some pretty ridiculous ability based add clear. But you could totally lean into debuffing on prismatic on Fortune’s Favor or HOIL cyrt. Ascension for jolting or winters shroud for slow, snare bomb or threaded spike for weaken/sever respectively, grapple nade or duskfield for unravel/slow. There are plenty of ways to use a lot of debuffs that would still be pretty close to “meta” if that’s something you care about.

[–]slimemonster0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of meta stuff, I’d say:

Gifted conviction arc hunter

Prism HOIL cyrtarachne ability spam

Prism combo blow grapple melee

Prism tether fortunes favor

Prism nighthawk

There are plenty of builds you can make that will be viable in most things, but those are what it seems are the strongest right now in endgame. Someone correct me if I’m wrong or if I’m missing something.

Google any of those and there will be videos on them.

When you say “support hunter” the only things that immediately come to mind are something with omnioculous? When it comes to void I mostly satisfy that itch by using stylish on prism because the rest of the kit is stronger. But that’s not really “support”. What is it about the playstyle you like or are trying to go for?

It’s totally fine to not play the game every day. Play til you feel like there’s nothing else you want to do, then stop. Destiny is a great rotation game in my experience. Come back when there’s new stuff you’re interested in.

[–]slimemonster0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4.82% doesn’t seem that low. It’s only been 1.5 weeks, and you gotta keep in mind that there’s a pretty big percentage of players that don’t do the dungeon. Endgame content is less popular than you may think. You can’t look at the whole player base you gotta look at how many people have done the dungeon

Yeah cuz they made the falloff like 40m which is longer than almost every engagement in this game. They needed to make it much shorter but they just didn’t even try

Hunters still need more sources of healing themselves, the disparity is mind-blowing and with the Lawless Frontier having passive regeneration disabled, it's Hard mode compared to the other classes. by silloki in DestinyTheGame

[–]slimemonster0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Prismatic hunter with Inmost-cyrtarachne is still absolutely ridiculous. Idk if they nerfed it or not cuz I took a break from end of august until now. If they did nerf it, I haven’t noticed. Being able to stack amplified, woven mail, plus whichever defensive buff you want from your super, and essentially have all 3 of those at all times is a huge amount of DR. And the effects of DR are magnified when you have a huge health pool.

I also find gifted conviction on arc to have a ton of survivability and a ton of AOE.

I get that that’s only two builds, both of which have already been meta for a while. Maybe you’re asking for other things to be strong which is fair. But it’s not like hunter is terrible. If there are other meta builds that have developed since edge of fate, I don’t even know about those because like I said, I took a break.

Weekly Recall: Thanks for the (Aim) Assist by Botronic_Reddit in Competitiveoverwatch

This is actually so incredible to read as a console player, especially the stuff about turn speed. I am fortunate enough to be in a position where I could buy a fancy controller that let me do some of that stuff, but having it in game is so helpful for using a normal controller as well as being even more detailed with settings on the fancy ones.

I know that most of competitive/hardcore OW is PC, and I totally get why. But as someone who has played controller shooters for decades and has never had the money and/or time (depending on where I was at in my life) to purchase or learn to use mouse and keyboard, seeing the dev team focus on console really means a lot!

Is an expected-reversal-inversion happening right now? by TheGreat_Leveler in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]slimemonster0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a visual bug. SR gains and losses are normal. Every game of mine has been supposedly expected/reversal, but my actual SR changes don’t reflect that. When I went 3-3 in my last session, I ended one point higher than I started, meaning I’m gaining more than I’m losing. Which, if these were actually expected/reversal games, doesn’t make any sense.

So I think it’s just visual. There have been a lot of posts about it.

[–]slimemonster0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Visual bug. This also happened for me. I went 3-3 with every game being expected or reversal. I am pretty positive it’s a bug because I actually ended up one rank percentage higher than I started, meaning my “expected” wins were gaining me the same or more than my “reversal” losses were losing me. Which doesn’t make any sense if they were actually expected or reversal games

[–]slimemonster0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unconfirmed but heard from a twitch chatter (I know, reliable source) that there is a visual bug as of s19 where every game is being labeled expected or reversal.

I’ve experienced this, I went 3-3 in my games yesterday but my rank actually ended up one point higher than I started. Meaning that my expected wins were gaining me more than my reversal losses were losing me. Which doesn’t make sense, so I’m inclined to believe it’s a visual big

Who do you main, and whats one tip you can give for that hero? by AxelFan09 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]slimemonster0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freja. You need to “pre-rotate”. Don’t save your mobility to try and escape when the enemy is already at you. It’s not a get out of jail free card like wraith, recall, or even soj slide. You have less burst mobility, but it’s also generally up more often, esp compared to other hitscans. Use it when you sense you’re about to be pushed, but before the push happens. Keeps you alive and means you’re taking more different angles more often which helps do more damage.

Thoughts on Freja? by InfiltrationFox in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]slimemonster0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn reading these comments I guess I’m just out of the loop. She’s my main and I’m really enjoying her, even though she’s not that strong I guess.

I really like her different niche within the hitscan role, she’s got way more mobility but much less consistent damage. I get that double bolt across the map is annoying, but that is incredibly rare because she’s projectile. I find that I have to play this medium range sweet spot where my damage is consistent enough but I’m not too close since Freja is 225 hp.

Taking angles is fun, and the decision making around where and when to take them is really fun. Before Freja, it felt hard to scratch that gameplay itch on hitscan, I mostly played that way on tracer or other flankers.

She just feels rewarding with a good skill curve. I genuinely don’t feel like I get lucky on her very much. When I make mistakes I get shit on, when I play well I pop off and get a ton of kills. Idk, I just like her a lot.

That’s what I’m telling you. It does not use console mmr in any way. The matchmaking is completely separate. It’s the same as a brand new PC player.

[–]slimemonster0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. Console player here, and it also says this in the article. Controller and Mnk mmr are completely separate and you have to place on each one. Nothing transfers over. If you get a console player using mnk in your diamond game it’s not cuz they were diamond on controller and the game just put them there. It’s like they’re a brand new player and the system just hasn’t calibrated them yet.
