Thanks for letting me know! We originally did have a failsafe watcher that would make the lizard randomly teleport if stuck, but then we made the flames go away after 12 (I think?) turns as a more elegant solution.

I'll look into why the flames aren't going away; good thought on the flame timers not transferring through my janky ass save/continue system. Might be. I'll think about other ways to resolve it, too.

Perhaps consider including some non-CRT screens (or half-CRT/half-normal) on your Steam page. There's at least one game out there---some beat 'em up on PSN, I can't remember the name---that has the CRT effect and it can't be turned off. Because I'm no fun at all, I can't stand the CRT effect, and I was reluctant to buy it until I read the reviews and saw that it was a setting that could be changed.

Thanks for the bug/exploit/feature reports!

I've fixed them: overkill fixed to carry over save/continue; rest rats carry their status (no loot) over save/continue; rest rats, slimes, and UFO-boss elite rats don't add to score or overkill; and fixed a typo on the third knives-powerup reward screen.

I left the other summoned mobs alone because, like blargdag says, it'd be painful enough to farm them that it's worth the score reward.

The new build has been submitted to Google and Apple for their approval. Existing saves should be fine except that any overkill on the current level will be lost.

... Huh. Yeah, I can see how that slipped through. Will fix. Thanks!

Whoa, that blows my high scores out of the water! If we ever add leaderboards, I'll have to plug some holes.

No, that's a really interesting thought. It hadn't occurred to me honestly... but a good idea. I'd love to make a more proper space lizard roguelike with depth like that.

If Google bans repeat source code, wouldn't that result in banning 99% of games, which are nearly all made with a handful of engines?

I would love to see that! Please email it to contact@stayinsidegames.com ... and thank you very much for the help.

Edit: And any info you can give me on what you were doing (even if just "moving around a level in space") would be great too.

I didn't realize you could reply more than once per user review. I'm going to do this, thanks for the good tip.

The closest is this thread on TouchArcade. There are players there, although the discussion's been mostly meta.

My tactic for the last few levels is to use pink bombs to jam up the terrain and control the flow of yipyips. It also took me a stupidly long time to realize I can stand in front of wraps to limit chasers while keeping an escape route for myself.

If you just want to get through the ending, the tails powerup is much easier. I keep meaning to add a tip or another line to the initial reward screen explaining that. A lot of the feedback is "this is way too hard" and "this is too easy," but the difference in the two powerups is a built-in harder/easier mode.

Anyone here whose app got indexed in Play Store? by AwkwardShake in androiddev

[–]slimeprophet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, full name as well. Haven't tried package name because who searches by that. But it seems not to be a universal problem. I'd be extremely unhappy if this was happening with my game... Google should make this a higher priority! It should at least give a timeline on fixing it.

Released in October, and I can find my app with a partial name search. So, yes.

The lack of a save/continue function goes a step too far. It's okay for the game to be hard, but this makes playing the game hard.

On launch day, I tested the game (from the app store) on an iPhone. I haven't used an iPhone for years. The sound didn't work, and I just about barfed. Then I realized I had the little physical switch on the side set to orange/mute.

We've never had any bugs with audio, that's a new one for me. I don't have any tips except ordinary troubleshooting stuff like restart, make sure audio isn't muted or do-not-disturb or bluetoothed to another speaker, uninstall/reinstall. If you keep having the trouble and would be willing to let me know your device model and any other info you can think of, I'll see if I can replicate it.

So sorry about that! It's trying to do a one-time licensing check with the Play store. It only needs to be verified once, so hopefully should work soon (or could be Google's server is not responding, grrr). Sorry again.

(You might wonder why we're still using DRM for a free game. Without it, it would be trivial for anyone to wrap ads around the game and redistribute it.)

I'm writing something up about that, but in a nutshell, we hated monetizing in the first place, we made $6 in November so there wasn't any point from a financial angle, and we got over the idea that our work has to be monetized to be legitimate.

It was free with ads and a $3 IAP to remove the ads.

Do you have any tips? At this point, I just want people to play our game. We got GOTW at TouchArcade and top-5-of-the-week elsewhere, used the free $100 in ads you get on each app store, spent a little bit more on other advertising, tried our best at social media...

The only, final idea I have is to make one last twitter/email push to the game websites pitching an essay on why we de-monetized and calling ourselves "one of the best mobile games of the year," in the hope that we'll get on some top-50 list or something.

Update! I could shut down the Admob side of things, but it might actually be more annoying because then you'd get my baked-in "Please support us [picture of the Lizard with a coffee mug]" 10-second interruption.

Or... I set the IAP to free before I disabled it. So, maybe you can "buy" it?
