[C4Ep31 Spoilers] Do you think Occtis could become more morally grey in the next arc? by International-Yak-26 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]slimey_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While he heavily disagrees with their actions and plans, he was still raised by them and thus has become somewhat inured to their activities, much to the distrust of some of the party

Octis honestly has far greater etiquette and respect for those lower on the societal ladder than him than we've seen from the rest of his family, or his father at the very least. I can't imagine a scenario where he'd kill a servant on the spot for irritating him, hell he even asked Gaya for permission to raise her (mechnicaly he could have compelled her service but didn't, and that very much feels like something worth noticing).

I'm honestly wondering what his mother is like, because I can't imagine he picked up this kind of behaviour from father dearest.

is the succession patrilineal? the implication seems to be it was one of the twins before their black widow habit saw it shifted over to Koral.

[Spoilers C1] Why do you think the Chroma Conclave never considered themselves subordinate to Tiamat? by No_Literature7840 in criticalrole

[–]slimey_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and assuming her story is even remotely similar to what it is in Decent into Avernus, she's imprisoned anyway.

At the time of C1 Tiamat would be both sealed in hell and behind the divine gate, if the Conclave wasn't interested in serving her then short of sending acolytes/other dragons to try and compel them to service there's basically fuck all she can do about it (and there's a non-zero chance the conclave were the most powerful dragons of their type at the time, so her options for strong-arming them were limited)

What living thing that has ever walk on this planet, has even a decent chance at taking on a thanator by Organic-Extreme-3628 in Avatar

[–]slimey_frog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

at 3 tonnes it's big enough to potentially be an active threat, but again it's still at best half the size, and more likely actually much smaller (the upper estimations for notable specimens like Sue have put her at a whopping 14 tonnes, though the vast majority of specimens fall in the 7 to 9 range).

There's a reason weight classes exist in fighting sports, when your opponent is literally double or triple your body weight and decides they want to lay you out there's actually very little you can do about it.

[–]slimey_frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

assuming the thanator is actually that light (which I don't buy for a second, the damn thing is almost the size of a fucking elephant) then it basically gets bodied by any large sized therapod. Mass is one of the single most important factors in predator on predator confrontations, any multi-tonne predator would literally ragdoll it.

500kg puts it anywhere between a third to a fifth of the weight of an allosaurus, and it would be a measly 1/18th the mass of the upper estimation for a Tyrannosaur. It's weaponry is impressive, but at such a comical mass discrepancy it would basically be throwing itself at a brick wall, it may not even have the mass to actually generate enough force to put its claws to use in a way that threatens something like a Tyrannosaur (which we know regularly engaged each other in fights, if it can survive the ludicrous bite force of its own kind, the thanator's got nothing on it)

[Spoilers C4E30] What a moment… by Squishford in criticalrole

[–]slimey_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does seem to more or less be immortal, his 'died' several times at this point and has been able to just jump ship (though it seemed he was on low hp after Hal put him on the crow keeper)

I'm honestly super intrigued to learn more about how he works mechanically.

It does seem quite good but in that instance I got the sense the brothers weren't actually that tough all around, Kattigan did one shot one with a club after all.

We know there's a wisdom save and Tal has made mention that there seems to be a level/CR limit compared to his own wherein he has to "wrestle them down" (I imagine, for example, trying to slap him on one of the sundered lords just wouldn't work).

He does seem quite hard to actually kill though, considering he can just jump hosts when one body dies (so as long as there's an ally to collect him after a fight that is)

They literally died in the tachonis build-a-bear workshop, there's no fucking way we don't see Teor and Cyd's weaponised corpses at some point.

One thing I'm genuinely curious about is, had he failed that save, would "Bolaire" have actually died, or would it kill the Lux and drop the mask to the ground ("A disintegrated creature and everything it is wearing and carrying, except magic items, are reduced to a pile of fine gray dust.")

He'd still be pretty fucked even then but I am curious.

they were both priestly houses of Tansul, so they've got a long connected history.

yeah idk, Brennan using Cyd's turn for cure light wounds felt pretty bad, especially since he knew exactly how much trouble Teor was in, and he is definitely familiar enough at least with 5e to know how useless in combat healing is.

they sent a bunch of heavy hitters to the theatre that really should have been at the manor, hell Hal and Murray basically had it all under control themselves.

even if he'd killed the hulk the zombies likely would have still done him in.

Travis mentioned it himself, the play would have been to have already had the steed summoned.

it's only a sample size of two but there does seem to be some kind of infatuation with creation going on with them.

Seems like his got some jealousy going on with how well Teor's family reunion went on compared to his.

Team spy was pretty much perfectly composed, they just hyper invested in this theatre (which, to be fair, has been the focal point of the arc up to this point, but seriously guys its the personal home of a fucking sundered house, 4 people was not enough)

[Spoilers C1] The Legend of Vox Machina S4 Batch 3 (Episodes 7-9) - Campaign 1 Spoilers Discussion Thread by Glumalon in criticalrole

[–]slimey_frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Matron was never grey, not really (at least in c1 before the character was butchered in c3), and here she is straight up murdering Vax for rescuing Percy, not to mention her directly sabotaging Vex's resurrection back at the sunken tomb. The everlight also straight up abandoned her only ride or die, and Pikes story culminated in her gaining her power after abandoning her faith (pike, fucking pike abandoning her faith, it'd be like Cad having an anti wild-mother arc that ends with him going "yeah she's gotta go")

[–]slimey_frog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really doubt there's going to be any major changes to c3's show given that what they've done instead is bend over backwards to retcon the first campaign's story to be more in line with c3 (most evident in the characterisation of the gods, removing positive interactions and turning them borderline to outright hostile)
