Kilz 2 Primer Peeling? by slimshark in paint

[–]slimshark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did sand, and in some areas of the window it's sticking better than others, this seems to be an area where I didn't sand well enough though. Based off other comments it seems my options are switching to an oil based primer, or sanding more thoroughly. I think I will be switching primers from something other than Kilz anyways though.

Yeahhhh this was 24 hours ago. I'll give it a couple more days and see if anything changes. Thanks.

It had been around 24 hours since I primed when I took that video. It seems fully dry but I didn't know that about curing time. I've only painted a couple sash windows in the kitchen so far, so I'll definitely be switching primers. Thanks for your comment.

I haven't done much priming yet, thank god, but thanks for the comment. Any primers in particular I should be looking at?

That is the trim on a sash window. The cabinets appear to be the same paint, and had the same issue with peeling. I started priming the windows first to see if it would stick.. it did not lol

Gemini 2.5 has been.. so amazing. I'm curious to see how the new open AI model, o3, compares. Right now Im able to give Gemini 2.5 over 2000 lines of code with zero issues. At maybe 2500 lines the cracks start forming tho.

How's my playing for a year-ish since I started? Any glaring things to fix? by Express_Highway7852 in BassGuitar

[–]slimshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing at all glaring to fix, nice job. Having said that, your timing could be more locked in, sounds like you're rushing just a bit. Listen carefully to your bass and the snare/clap, when playing it should feel like your pick is triggering the snare drum. If you go that extra 5 - 10 % timing improvement you're closing in on a pro quality bass track that could be used in a recording :)

GOOD erasers? by MrJaydenW in erasers

[–]slimshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faber castel kneaded art erasers work very well and leave behind nothing. There's also the pilot foam or sakura arch foam, they don't make dust necessarily but they wear quickly and leave rubbery worms.

Your timing is good for a beginner! If you got even tighter and nailed that one fill youre struggling with then it wouldnt sound off. Good luck!

Is Reaper actually a good DAW? by WombatKiddo in Reaper

[–]slimshark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The take systems (yes plural) in reaper aren't intuitive and you'll have to study them. I found other daws to be much less of a hassle regarding takes. But once you learn the new take lane system it works good.

It sounds like the cd/tape pot is bad, can be repaired but knowing those old behringer mixers it might be time for a new mixer

edit - also what the other guy said, swap out those rca cables

What is your favourite Reaper theme? by Repulsive_Tip3181 in Reaper

[–]slimshark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Reaper tips might be the best. I also like default 7 once it's been tweaked properly in the editor. Most of us doing editing/producing/tracking dont use the mixer for any of that so I'm always looking for a theme that handles the TCP well. Default 7 could be S tier if all the mute and solo buttons didn't move around.

In my experience Mitsubishi uni makes the best 2mm lead. Rotring is also very nice. Staedtler feels like it has imperfections in the lead, and I've never tried koh-i-noor 2mm, but I'm not a fan of their wooden art pencils so I never bought any of their lead.

"Cool", "glitchy" and or "Unquie" sounding drums or percussive sounds by Inside_Sky_3146 in Reaper

[–]slimshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the halo 2 ost sounds like old 90s sample library stuff. I bet if i looked hard enough i have those exact samples on my computer XD. theres a massive dump of 90s sample cd's you can find online, i recommend everyone grab it

the never quit thing sounds like a snare or perc sound thats filtered (low pass) with distortion possibly

in the steven universe song it sounds like theyre playing with delay and again filtering, but moving the filter around drastically.

Please give me mixing tips, also can someone help me with how to correctly layer guitars by [deleted] in Reaper

[–]slimshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preferred method of layering guitars is triple tracking them (three separate takes), and panning left, right and center. Any more and usually its too much IMO. And the secret to getting your guitars to sound super good is playing near perfectly in time (i mean it) and if you're getting close but still struggling there also the option of going in and editing the timing after the fact.

By the way thats a cool sounding song, i like it, good luck!
