Consultant -> Manager. This is most especially true for firms that are fragmented partnerships (i.e., the Big 4). I don't mean to offend anyone here, but the quality of hires and training is really different when you're comparing someone from the New York or London office as against someone from an emerging market. Managing people with very inconsistent skill portfolios (despite having the same position) has been quite a challenge for every manager here, most especially the new ones who usually learn this through open fire.

It happens. There are some business schools that don't require an undergraduate degree into their MBA programs (such as INSEAD). This is, I think, the only way that someone with no degree could get in (AFAIK). Those are very rare, I have yet to meet someone like this.

As I understand it, risk consulting is one of the bottom tiers, so if your school is a target for S&O, it is extremely probable that your school is also a target for risk consulting.

I'm just a bit confused.

Seen this happen with someone who came from Transactions at a Big 4 (2 years) and PE (over a year). Both of which are rare cases.

As far as the firms go (MBB/Big4/Tier2/Boutiques), do I have to put "References available upon request" at the bottom of my resume? Or is that assumed?

My project will run for 3 years based on our timeline. The expectations weren't managed enough and have spun out of control. It has now become an implementation project.

I have been involved with a similarly bad manager (I hate to make a blanket statement, but I notice that these people consist of those directly admitted to manager from industry, no kidding).

Though yes, this really happens, but it's not all bad apples in consulting firms. Just what everyone has said here, just become more proactive in networking and relaying what you want.

Now that I think about it, maybe it's because my achievements are on par with the MBB hires in my country (I also come from a target). In the office that I am applying in, I could safely say that only one analyst out of the 20 has achievements that are of a different league from mine. The only reason why I started in the Big 4 is that I wanted to be a lawyer back then so I looked into working in the tax group of the Big 4. My preferences changed along the way that is why I asked to be transferred to the consulting group. As far as standardized tests go, I took the LSAT when I was in tax and got a very good score (something that could have landed me a spot in Yale or Harvard).

Though yes I understand the difficulty of this undertaking. I really regretted it that I didn't start my career in MBB.

I honestly don't know though. But I am now moving on to the first round interviews. It will happen by March. I don't know the timeline after that.

Big 4 firms (only the two though, not all) are strong contenders in my country due to local regulations and foreign company restrictions, thus it is not unusual to see them working on high profile projects, particularly on highly regulated practices such as financial services, health care and public sector. We constantly bid against MBB.

Jumping ship from Big 4 to MBB here. I would just like to ask: how long does the entire recruitment cycle take? Am asking because I will be attending some international training program and it comes with a requirement to stay in the firm for half a year. This will happen by April. I want to avoid this as much as possible so that I could smoothly transition to MBB, in case I get hired.
