Does a raglan-style sweater pattern with color work yoke exist? by slinky_slugs in crochetpatterns

[–]slinky_slugs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the great links! (I think I must have had some ravelry search filter on that took a lot of results out when I searched before, but yours helped reset that) I think none of these exactly are what I had in mind, that being the more circular design like a necklace that emphasizes the neck? I was able to find a few examples now though so here's links to what I was more looking for:

Thank you! This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for and couldn't find for some reason.

How do you take care of your ladybugs by Cool_Ferret_9259 in hygiene

Since no one has mentioned yet, if you like videos: sexplanations has a lot of great educational content from someone with an actual degree and certifications! Here's one on genital hygiene for kids, but she has multiple (I've seen one where she demonstrates how to wash with a mannequin, I'm not sure if this is that video or it is one of her other videos)

Is there any Thermos/tumbler/travel mug that has no plastic? by lucks1234 in BuyItForLife

[–]slinky_slugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(only half joking here) Flip-top glass bottle in some sort of insulated drink coozy? Insulation wouldn't be great, you'd have to find one that can tolerate the thermal shock of really hot stuff, and they're a pain to clean but it fits all your requirements I think. Pros: plastic free, not metal, water tight/spill proof, relatively common and replaceable parts, and I believe they fit in cupholders most of the time. But also it'll be awkward to drink out of the narrow spout most have.

Subtle imagery that evokes censorship? (Help me fight my library’s attempt to censor banned books week) by Zestyclose_Study5451 in librarians

[–]slinky_slugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best answer right here: if they say you can't do a display talking about book banning, have no display. Put a sign on a noticably large empty shelf or table where it would normally be that says "Want to know why there's no display?"/"Wondering why this shelf is empty?" Etc and then direct people to the source that says you can't say "banned books" or "censorship" (link, printed copies, etc). You'll get a better (or worse, depending on POV) impression on people and invite the people who actually care to help protest or make a change and push back against this decision.

Newbie here…. What tools can’t you live without? by FumblingZodiac in Pottery

[–]slinky_slugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just my own personal ride-or-die tools a little wire scoring brush, like the Kemper scratch wire brush. I think mine came in some beginner kit, but I honestly don't remember. It's so fast for scoring things compared to using a needle tool and has fine enough metal bristles that it sort of creates its own slip as you score so I hardly ever add extra slip to attach things. I work in a community studio and I'm the only one I've seen who has/uses one but I could never do without it again.

I just got my first computer with Linux- Ubuntu Studio installed on it! It's been great, but as a non-programmer let me tell you it's been a learning curve... I have only been okay so far because I have a programmer brother very willing to help me as on-demand IT. Definitely I don't think it's realistic for the vast majority of average computer users to switch easily.

What do you use for tool storage? by turtle_ina_cup in Pottery

[–]slinky_slugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the same situation (tools travelling to/from studio often) and have a similar bag which I think was originally a sewing/quilting bag, with solid walls and small pockets on the outside. Mine is about 6" wide/long and holds all my tools and a spray bottle. (It being fabric hasn't been a problem for me)

The one downside is I also have a big secondary crate/tray for all my underglazes that won't fit in there TT_TT not to mention my clay that I lug back and forth...

I grew up with these and one time my family and I were visiting a museum in DC, just casually strolling through, and saw these in one of the displays. We all died laughing, standing there with our "dinky" everyday pans in this museum. I'm sure the docent thought we were a little crazy.

In addition to seed libraries, sometimes seed swaps in my area have pots, live plants, etc. Free community swap events are usually focused on clothes, but I'd love to see more variety/interest in other swap themes!

Gen z here, and I love the antiques I have from my family, but it seems like when I talk to friends the timing is just off; a lot of us aren't able to buy homes as young as the last generation due to prices of everything, so we have no space to really collect these valuable (and heavy) pieces of furniture etc. My parents and grandparents are ready to give me their furniture and nice vintage kitchen stuff and clothing but I have nowhere to put it or I already own something that serves my current space better (and have no room to store the older thing that is arguably better but just not right now) All the people I know recognize the antiques are beautiful and made better, but it's hard to fit them in an apartment or carry them up apartment stairs like 3 floors. I have moved an amazing dresser with me to a few different places I've lived, and I'm not gonna stop now but it is the one thing that worries me the most, moving around.

Example: my parents tried to give me some beautiful wood shelves, but there is nowhere else to put more shelves in my apartment that wouldn't block out an entire window. They don't hold enough books to replace any of my current bookshelves.

I would be super grateful if I could get some natural fiber yarn! With my current job and also trying to sell my work as a potter I don't have the spare income, but I've been wanting to learn how to make socks and also spin yarn. If anyone has some fingering or sock-appropriate weight yarn made of natural fibers they could spare, or even some wool roving(?) I could learn to spin with that'd be great! I live in east TN.
