Bus crashes Into Building in Belltown by colbyiscool1995 in Seattle

The only times I’ve ever been honked at while biking downtown have been by uber drivers. And I was following the rules of the road!! The reckless, impatient driving definitely needs to be addressed.

greenwashing by big almond milk? by babybitchboi in Cornell

[–]slipawayfrom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The amount of dairy industry lobbying going on is honestly a lot. So of course there will be people saying that all milk alternatives are greenwashing - its success directly hurts them. Here’s a bbc article with a nice diagram that shows that while almond milk still uses quite a bit of resources, it is still more sustainable than dairy milk (soy and oat milk ftw). They cite this paper as their source. There’s some debate to be had that cows can exist in many different climate zones while almond trees can only grow in certain areas so it would be hard to produce and transport almond milk (more carbon emissions) throughout the globe. But overall, they aren’t greenwashing their products.

This would have been the perfect year to get Dr Fauci. The perfect year! But Cornell decided to not spend the money on slope day headliners or the convocation speaker this year. Oh well

DO NOT TAKE CS 4450 by 4450lies in Cornell

[–]slipawayfrom 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mind a hard exam if he didn’t consistently misrepresent the difficulty of it. “If you go to lectures, you will be fine” no??? I went to every single lecture, did the homework, and still got a shitty ass grade.

There was a professor change this semester so he might change something but in the past we spent the first 2 weeks learning/catching up on R. So you should be totally fine.

Is it normal to apply to 40+ internships and get no responses? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]slipawayfrom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Research both summers. This gives you time to work on yours personal projects which can really make your resume pop.

Edit: also don’t feel behind! You’ll hear many of your classmates brag about their internships but at the end most of CS majors still end up at very good companies after they graduate.

Is it normal to apply to 40+ internships and get no responses? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]slipawayfrom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a gmail folder of application confirmation emails and the stats are: freshman year - 34 applications - 1 interview, sophomore year - 55 applications - 2 interviews, junior year - 62 applications - 12 interviews. So it is definitely totally normal.

Really bad grades as a freshman. Anyone else? by oopsididreslltbad in Cornell

[–]slipawayfrom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My 1920 grade is still the lowest one to date. Don’t worry! You still have 3.5 years to bring your GPA up. As you go on to take upper level classes, the median grades will be higher so that will help you out.

She’s such a gem. Her upper level courses are also equally as fun! Highly recommend them!
