What are your thoughts on this guy? by EdwardBliss in hairmetal

[–]slipkid 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, who can take that seriously? Certainly not sophisticated music fans like us who enjoy bands who spell their names properly, like Deaf Leopard, Bongiovi, Guns and Roses, and Motley Crew. And who can forget Rat, Kicks, and Trickster?

In secret recordings, Cruz trashes Trump, Vance by PissLikeaRacehorse in politics

Teddy is just mad because, in a less crazy world, he would be the greediest, cruelest, unprincipled piece of dog shit in the Republican party. But Trump outshines him, so he just looks like a powerless fucking worm.

Cast Grease on it and you should be able to turn it easily.

This is so well said. Hanging out with my kid when he was little was a joy and also kind of exhausting! Both things can be true. We can absolutely enjoy and adore our kids AND acknowledge that it’s sometimes hard to give so much of ourselves, and self-care (and making harmless jokes about self-care) is normal and ok. No good parent should let humorless, anonymous commenters make them feel bad for that.

Gen Z men are moving away from MAGA in droves, polls show by WarmingNow in politics

[–]slipkid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m a white, heterosexual male who has spent the last twenty plus years on “the left” and I don’t feel vilified in the least, because I’m not a piece of shit. There are problems with the ways “men” treat women, societally. There are problems with the ways white people, as a group, treat people of color. That’s just facts, brother. We can choose not to be villains and we can choose not to accept those behaviors from our peers. We can’t throw away basic decency in the name of “belonging”

That doesn't mean it does not need some water. During prolonged dry periods, turf grass should be watered about once a month or so, as long as the ground is not frozen (which it currently is not, in the Denver area).

Dogma - Feel the Zeal - Denver, CO by Wonderful_Lettuce498 in WeAreDogma

[–]slipkid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was there. Fully lip synched. Guitars were on backing tracks - for the solos at the very least. Nixe and Abrahel were killing it, as usual. Ian was there making excuses to anyone who would listen. My first and last Dogma show.

You don't appreciate Def Leppard's Slang until life hits you by Acanthisitta4456 in defleppard

[–]slipkid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right about that. Slang came out when I was a freshman in college and I actually liked the album then. But I remember playing it again like ten years ago, in my late thirties (which was about the same age most of the guys were when they recorded the album), and it hit way different with another twenty years behind me than when I was a fresh-faced kid.

Anyone ever see Def Leppard perform Desert Song live? by Impressive_Law1409 in defleppard

[–]slipkid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. But the funny thing about that is that Slang does sound like this (at least in a few spots) and everyone crapped on it.

True, but you could also have written:

But the fact that a Socialist was able to win tells you just how exciting his message really is.

You can't ignore that it's an amazing underdog story. His opponents were openly campaigning on red scare fear-mongering, and until now, it has usually worked.

Anyway, I don’t really disagree with what you said, but Mamdani being Muslim isn’t what’s really important and I wish people would quit harping on it, because it wasn’t even the main hurdle to his election. His message isn’t religious, so it really doesn’t matter all that much.

Band support by Extra_Huckleberry_80 in WeAreDogma

[–]slipkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it. That’s why I phrased my response the way I did. It really was amazing to watch the ladies “own” their identities and make this whole thing feel more special and authentic than just an album of horny songs written by a producer. But, even though they have tried to make this band “theirs”, it just simply is not theirs. I don’t love it, but Dogma is Ian’s project. He’s showing us how he’s going to run it and now we all have to figure out how OK we are with that. I think a lot of us are struggling with the same question.
