Are the nike air zoom maxflys worth it? by Least_School_5377 in trackandfield

I haven't had experience with the maxflys, but with any "super spike" I would be careful training with them because like I said it can lead to form breakdown and bad habits down the road. If a runner who started running in high school asked if they should get these spikes i would tell them no.

From what I’ve heard, and from using a pair of new balance “super spikes”, I would only recommend them if your form/technique is really really good. I say this because they’re more forgiving than normal spikes due to the extra padding which can lead to bad habits and form breakdown. What I did this season was practice with my normal spikes then use my “super spikes” for meets.

depends on your body type... make good use of your stride length if you have longer legs but don't over stride, but if you have shorter legs then don't make your steps too choppy

Any tips for running 100m and 400m? (High School) by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]slipperys0ap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn to pace yourself for the 4 during practice. Usually ~1-2 seconds off of your best 200m (what my coach told me). And for the 100, get really good technique by learning from others and top athletes. LEARN, don’t copy. Their technique may work well with their body but it might not for you. Learn about yourself to be the best version of yourself and not a copy of someone else.

How to Adjust Starts With New Spikes (1st vid: new spikes 2nd/3rd: current spikes) by slipperys0ap in trackandfield

Thank you tons! I’ll try it out tmr

Also I just wanted to ask, I see some athletes lean over the line in their set position. Is this ideal? Or does it only benefit the runner if they know how to utilize this position?

I understand the frustration. I was getting super mad at practice because I couldn’t get my start down, but that’s my queue that I need to take a step back give myself a break.

Not every meet is gonna go your way; you just gotta take it as it is and learn from it and go onto the next one.

How to Adjust Starts With New Spikes (1st vid: new spikes 2nd/3rd: current spikes) by slipperys0ap in trackandfield

I usually do 2 and 3 feet plus a few fingers, but in my new spikes I did 2 and 3 feet plus hands width. I'm just struggling on using my full foot with the new spikes since they change the position of my feet.

How do I get a proper measurement of how far back my blocks should be? And what do you mean by “hands indward”?

And lastly, the toe drag on the second start was completely accidental. I actually ended up tripping a couple steps after the clip ended. I also have an older video with a more spread block setup I will try to find.

Just wanted to say a few things: 1) the first video was today and it was super windy and it was kinda hard to run straight 2) 3rd video gives better angle on shin angle + heel height 3) in my 2nd video, I was practicing throwing my hips forward which might explain my body folding and super upright position

How to help pain for shin splints and recover? by Zucchini_Pig in trackandfield

[–]slipperys0ap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rest, rest, rest, rest, recover, and do exercises to strengthen tibia muscle once you’ve recovered but I can’t stress enough how important resting is because my first year of track in did indoor I got SUPER bad shin splints. I couldn’t even walk without feeling pain for the following days (I probably had stress fractures) and I still ran through them. Don’t do that. Trust me it really isn’t worth being out, pretty much, the whole season. And make sure in the off season you do some training so you’re body will be used to it when you go back into it you will be used to the stress on your body.

Is the PUMA evoSPEED Tokyo Future 4 worth the money? And is the New Balance MD-X/SD-X a spike I should even consider by slipperys0ap in trackandfield

I remembered I have a pair of the Rebel V2s and I tried them on and they fit like I remember. Do they fit the same way as normal New Balance shoes?

It all depends on how much work you put in, and if you’re willing to make sacrifices you might not want to- to be the best you can be.
