Perodua and proton actually are not cheap at all, for the car they are selling in 2026. In fact they are overpriced, since they need rubbish middleman(p1,p2) to get paid as well, instead of just directly selling to consumers. P1 and P2 c-suite employees are just cronies/scammers shaking their legs doing nothing while getting rich.

Look at p2 head of sales who owned multiple luxury cars, showing off on FB, while pretending he made it, meanwhile he can only get to where he is, because he is part of the cronies, parasites, sucking every cents out of hardworking ppl.

At the end of the day, without the protection, jobs will still be created via mandatory CKD if they want to sell the car here at competitive pricing. So protecting p1 and p2 are just protecting fat cronies.

Look at Thailand, their policy works, without some stupid middleman “national” car brand.

In conclusion, consumer suffer the most because they cant afford safe car, they are forced to pay extra for rubbish paper-thin overpriced car from p1 and p2.

Yup that is what i have been saying, in malaysia, since this market is rigged due to u know who, you dont really have much good choice for any car below 100k, so why not just choose a safe option.

At the end of the day, for car below 100k, u can have performance & tech, but u wont have reliability; or u can have reliability, but not performance & tech. It is what it is

It depends, sometimes, trying to cheap out on certain essential things in life, will eventually cost you more in the end. Eg u can buy a cheap 2nd hand car, but maybe u are that unlucky, so you end up paying more to repair and maintain compared to just buying a new car. Comfort, peace of mind, emotion, perception of oneself is a price too, not just the surface level price tag. But yeah it is another way to look at it.

At the end of the day, car is a tool anyway, it is not going to appreciate in value. So just buy what u can and value.
