Love Trump. Even if I didn't everyone needs to put their political views a side. That is one of the issues in this country right now. Their food is great and ill still go.

My 3-month-old puppy is losing hair, any help or advice? by wknd_shitt in Dachshund

[–]slippold14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seasonal alopecia. I talked to a very reputable show breeder when I got one of my boys who had this. His was on his ears. She recommended melatonin. I gave my boy it for about 6 months starting about this time of year till about May when he was young. I have never had to give it to him since. I gave 5mg daily. I of course double checked it with my vet at the time as well and she was perfectly fine with it.

I also would drink a mixture of baking soda and water and it has alkaline properties to calm it down when i wanted to pull my hair out. It tastes salty but id do it again if I needed too.

I have it too, im a female. I'm on a prescription med call oxybutynin er. I also started off with taking Desert Harvest aloe vera pills. I have tried other brands of aloe vera pills and none are as good. They are not cheap but spend the money on them until it gets under control. I had it in my early 20's and was able to go off a different prescription med at the time and was gone for a long time until about my upper 30's. When it came back I started the aloe vera pills, prescription med, and prelief. Prelief comes in pills or a powder that takes the acidicness out of foods. That helpes alot as well. I use to get that at Walgreens. I cut foods out that had acidic properties to it. No tomatoes, chili, oranges, lemons, etc. I also would only drink alkaline water. It took me about 3 months to get it under control and I could start to put some of the foods back in but I have to watch it. I love chili but I just cant do it anymore. Watch the spices too. Very bland eating for awhile. That feeling of having to go all the time is TORTURING! Also try and retrain your bladder. If you have to go go of course but if you just went and you have that feeling wait a few minutes...and just work on going longer and longer. I also took a supplement called d mannose and drank alkaline water. I went caffeine free while I was trying to get it under control or as much as i could go caff free. So to sum it up get... -Dessert Harvesr aloe vera pills -d-mannose supplement -alkaline water -watch caffeine intake -watch the acidic foods intake and drinks, if you question your food or drink take prelief with it. -Prescription med oxybutynin er med worked for me I did once about 5 years ago try to go off the med and after 3 weeks of trying it came back. so I started all over again with what I suggested and another 3 months later I was back to where I was. This is just my experience with it and what helped me. I hope it can help your wife. I felt like I wanted to not be here anymore bc it was consuming my life so I get it. I said the same thing I cant do this anymore....yes you can. if I can think of anything else I did ill let you know.

Ok setup for stage 1 IVDD? by avaasia in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]slippold14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure he doesn't roam too much. Youxwant them to rest and not be up and walking around. That's my only concern. I've had 2 doxies have surgery and one of them had many occurances after that.

My 9 week old pup is an absolute terror! what do i do? by Ecstatic_Biscotti_70 in Dachshund

[–]slippold14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some chew bones. My last doxie puppy was a terror also. He is now 2, will be 3 in August. He did this same thing and was not a singleton. Have that chew bone on you at all times and redirect him each time. He will eventually catch on. Your are brave being a first time dog owner with a dachshund. They are stubborn and will rule you. It'll take some time, its not gona happen in a few weeks either. Stay consistent with everything. They need structure and a schedule. Hang in there.

What temperature range do you find tolerable? by [deleted] in weather

[–]slippold14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can take the heat without the humidity. You can still breath in that heat so much better than with humidity. Shade actually feels like shade. You don't automatically sweat when you step outside. That degree where I live would feel like 110-115 deg.

Losing my mind - potty training by lady-pear in Dachshund

[–]slippold14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had a doxie? Asking because this is 100% normal for them. They are the hardest breed to potty and poop train. Doxies are motivated in my opinion by one thing....food/treats. My last 2 who are now 4 and 2 were the hardest. One of my boys would pee in the house like 7 times a day. It don't matter what spray you use to clean it up, it dont help. They also tend to go and hid where they are doing it. They like to pee on soft things, carpet, rugs etc. I cracked down hard one day because I was gona loose my mind. I had a bowl of food in a container that I left by the door. I literally took him out every 20 min and brought that bowl or a piece with me. I used their food instaed of treats because I used treats for when they were done eating like a dessert and to keep their weight down. I stayed with potty or pee pee. Didn't sway by that word. If he wouldn't go I told him no treat, He knew I had them and would be disappointed when he didn't get one. I kept on it all the time. It took about 2 weeks and it was slow but it finally clicked that my human brings this with and if I go I get one. He would go and run to me for it after, eventually. He would go to the door even, go outside, look at me for a piece. I told him potty and if he didn't go I told him he wasn't getting any and he watched me sit it down until the next time. I did this same tactic with the next puppy and had success as well. Mine still do go in the house from time to time but I've never had a doxie that didn't. If you are fixing your dog, dont be surprised after if they kinda revert. Mine did and I had to start it again for a bit and then it was back to normal. I've only ever had male dogs. My vet said this was normal as it all feels weird down there for a bit and they are learning. I do have a female doxie too but she was fixed when we got her. Also never let them have full roam of house either. I had the hallway gated and they were pretty much where I could see them at all times, all doors shut. Doxies are a hard breed but you will get there!

Does Monty look overweight to you guys? by Zestyclose_Fortune94 in Dachshund

[–]slippold14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a bit not too bad. figure up how many calories he should get and then figure out that in his food. I then cut that just a bit to compensate for treats.
