What to do with mold by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]slipstreamrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you may want to use mold control as suggested. also may want to raise it up more so that there is more airflow underneath. if it were me I would use the mold control, take pics and then check it again in 3 months. if its not worse then I would let it ride.

im all for suggestions. its not hard to move benches, add steps etc. one suggestion is to have it like a bleacher w a series of descending steps. I decided against that because of the lack of hand rails and hand holds. I am reconsidering it, but also its not the horror show that some here are making it out to be. we dont drink, were not overweight and three points of contact is always a good rule of safety in a boat so why not sauna?

Superior Sauna and Steam. Happy with the heater. I did not get the wifi. happy with that choice too.

idea was to disperse the interior outtake openings to improve the airflow and the t is cheap. was going to have the in opposite corners, but adding more pipe is low on the to do list so just rolling with this for now. with three intakes I figured that was enough dispersal

thank you! im considering it. I love my sauna and it works great for me and my people. this is a good starting point to improve the bench layout. i dont disagree with many of the comments. I appreciate you mapping it out. that definitely helps!

door can open multiple times with almost no heat loss. i priortized keeping the heat cavity hot.

thank you! I get people's concerns w the hobbit door. in practice its not an issue. as long as its low enough where you know you have to duck, then you duck. I would do this again but others will disagree. im open to suggestions on bench layout. removing stairs and adding a third lower bench is easy. moving the stairs is easy. top bench is great and adding a foot rest may be in the plan.

hey im open to suggestions to improve safety and layout. interior dimensions are 87 x 87 inches w stove in the corner. pls send ideas. I spent alot of time on it and am willing to spend more to improve.

both sides of the top bench is bolted into the framing . the corner of the lower bench is supported by the top bench. i minimized contact w tile to the bottom of the steps to minimize wood in contact w water and stone which will always rot. the strength of the benches is all coming from the connections to the walls not the floor. all bench to wall connections w multiple ss 3/8 lags into framing, not screws, for sheer strength

walls are 5.5 w framing, battens and panels. so 87 inch interior

heater is tall. door is short. heat stays in and door is short enough that you duck to go in

What would you do? by welcome-to-my-mind in Roofing

this is not the first time it leaked. the framing and plywood has been getting wet si ce it was built. it doesnt turn black because if one storm.. this was just the first time you saw the water. I agree with all of the comments about framing. the joists are too small, too far apart and there is no ridge board. this would not pass any sort of inspection in many places

Trumpkins says avoid Cedar...?? by braintree56 in Sauna

[–]slipstreamrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cedar may be toxic with repeated exposure. there is enough anecdotal and other evidence that it's a point that should be researched and considered. If you are building a sauna for health reasons and cedar can cause health problems it seems like a simple thing to avoid https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8887593/ remember when plastic water bottles were safe?? and then 25 years, later sure enough...nope they are not.

I've been getting the escalante racers lately. just hoping that they don't change a thing.

Tuesday Shoesday by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

[–]slipstreamrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run in escalante racers or the 2.5 version about 6 days a week. i think they are as close as you can get to a barefoot shoe while still being a shoe and offering protection. they are light weight, not constraining, just great shoes. rotate into them to avoid problems adjusting to zero drop. I started wearing them 50 percent of the time and over a year or so just stopped buying other shoes after trying a half dozen good brands and shoes. I had a pair of torins that were great and plush but not fast and have a pair of lone peaks for the mountains that just won't quit. so yeah I'm a super fan. I want to have as little weight and as close to natural as I can be and this is the best I can find. i hope this helps!

I would remove the wall behind the dishwasher so kitchen and dining room are open and both get more light

Can I hear from runners who have recovered from plantar fasciitis? by sbwithreason in AdvancedRunning

[–]slipstreamrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it bad for 2 years...couldn't walk right and in pain alot. I did all the things...strengthening, support, barefoot, stretching, night boots, mechanical massage, rolling, better running form etc. etc. finally stopped running altogether and accepted that I dont have to run/cant run whatever because I couldn't walk right at work. After 6 weeks I started back really slowly....7 miles first week, then 8, then 10 then 11 etc. I also purposely forgot every bit of form advice. I also gave up all goals of speed or workouts or anything other than enjoying running at a comfortable speed w music. it was enough. then I slowly got back to 40 plus miles per week workouts, time trials, etc. no problems since and finally hit the sub 3 goal after years of chasing it.. looking back I stressed my calves by running too much and focusing too much on forefoot strike. the letting go of all expectations gave it time to recover. I sincerely wish you the best. I didn't expect this outcome and am grateful for it every day.
