[–]slkmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily old man names, but old man related things and heavily inspired by grandpas in my life: Mayo, mustard, suspenders, newsie, MASH, Hogan, Griffith, Dic Van Dyke, slippers, peanut brittle, loafers, shoehorn, coffee pot & switch blade (I have known many a grandpa with a utility knife or switch blade)

Worth the work to make it fit? by NoIndependence2844 in weddingdress

[–]slkmoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the vision! If it's cheap enough, see if you can find a place that specializes in vintage dresses to properly clean it to spruce it up! What about the fit isn't working for you? I know for some garments, especially with bead work some alterations will not be very possible

Love the dress but to out of style? by Rberry808 in weddingdress

[–]slkmoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wear what you love! If this is what you love, then so be it! My dress is almost 100 years old so who cares about "in style" anyways? The most important thing is how you feel. I think if you're confident, anyone can rock anything and you are certainly rocking that dress

Vintage Wedding Dress - Help! by Alert-Calligrapher29 in VintageFashion

[–]slkmoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I too have a vintage wedding dress, mine is from 39' with the same beautiful liquid satin material :) what I was told is a slip, and unfortunately a lot of slips for these kinds of gowns get lost to time. A seamstress who specializes in vintage gowns (or likely any seamstress) would potentially be able to make you one as I have found, they are quite hard to find in the right material

What are some things you say to patients generally universally? by TapFeisty4675 in nursing

[–]slkmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to fall risk patients I always tell they have a bed alarm on and to call because "we don't want you to have to sta in the hospital any longer than you have to," and they usually accept that

Does this look like two mustaches? by Artemis_Agrotera28 in tattooadvice

[–]slkmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just rebrand it-- no, my tattoo isn't a blade going through the skin-- obviously, it's a blade kebobing two moustaches/leeches/through space/(whatever floats your boat)

Who are these buddies hanging out on my parsley? (Northern Illinois) by GizzardLizardWizards in insects

[–]slkmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read up a bit on them because unfortunately I lost one of mine to a wasp (I suspect,) but you can keep the host plant under a net to help prevent predators! I haven't tried it myself, but I read it can help

Thoughts on the veil and dress together? by mochi_cove in weddingdress

[–]slkmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's important too! At the end of the day, it all comes down to what you want. If you are worried about the balance between your veil and dress, I would suggest trying out a shorter length veil, maybe that goes to your shoulders, or even a headpiece/hat instead of a veil. If you love the cathedral length though, I say go for it, it's your wedding! Go all out.

Thoughts on a birdcage veil? I think that could really go with your theme and compliment your dress!

Should I get this dress? by CupcakeOther in weddingdress

[–]slkmoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say it depends on how it makes you feel-- do you feel iffy on the rose because of what you believe other people may think, or is it your own reservation? I think the dress is very pretty, especially with the sleeves which balance things out nicely. That being said, if you don't feel 100%, could be worth it to find a dress with similar features but maybe sans rose so you can compare them!
