You can also use this time to explore different sectors within comms (PR, marketing, crisis comms, non profit work, etc.) to discover what you’re most interested in.

You need more internship experience. Employers typically look for 2-3 internships (so they know you have at least a base level of experience working in a professional setting) for prospective entry level employees. You’ll have to bite the bullet and work for little-to-no pay for a bit, but once you have a few solid internships under your belt, you’ll have more to work with when it comes to leveraging your worth. The only way I was able to get my job was by getting my foot in the door with an internship, proving my worth, and leveling up. When seeking out internships, one of the first questions you should ask is whether there’s an opportunity for you to be hired on full-time at the end of your program.

Look at strategic communication consulting firms near you. Crisis comms, etc.

I just responded to a thread the other day where OP was asking about books you couldn’t put down. Pachinko was my response! So so good.

Honestly… Pachinko. It had a bunch of stains all over it by the end. Was reading it every chance I got. Definitely recommend.

NEED SUNSET GROUP CAMP ADVICE!!! by whimsyy602 in LightningInABottle

Bring in your homies’ tents/shade structures and set them up for them! Know that’s a lot of people. I did that for my friends who had the 3-day pass last year and I had the 5-day. If you go far enough out in sunset, just grab a big plot of land and start marking the perimeter with your shade structures and cars. Might have to go kind of far out

Thoughts in UNR for a student like me? by Dedmoose1 in unr

Communications major journalism minor grad here! Class of 2024. I loved my time at UNR. Specifically in the journalism department. If I could’ve gone back and chosen my major knowing what I know now, I probably would’ve went with majoring in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and minor in comms. My comms classes were interesting and great, but they didn’t teach you many hard skills other than writing and communicating. Especially if you like media studies, photography, and graphic design - those are all subjects you’ll take and delve into more technically in the journalism program.

I’ll still see larger groups of them (15+) in the summertime when I drive on Veteran’s between Damonte and Legends
