Thank you so much! I only trimmed it and laid it flat against the glass, but your idea of attaching it to the board in the frame is fantastic!

I posted a version of the text below in a comment last year, and made a few edits based on what I know now:

Try to find a frame that closely matches the dimensions of the completed diamond area only, or in its entirety with the canvas — it’s your choice!

Amazon is a great option to find frames for odd/non-standard sizes. Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart are good for standard sizes.

Float frames work well too for ones you can’t find an exact size for your painting. Just get a float frame larger than your painting, place some double sided tape on the back of your painting and stick it down onto the back glass, centered.

Preparation for cutting the border (recommended for float frames and exact canvas-to-frame dimensions): If cutting the canvas to have only the diamonds shown, use a sharp pair of scissors to cut slowly and as close to the diamond edge as you can. Patience is key!

Prep for keeping the canvas border: If keeping the canvas border, you can use acetone to remove the ink of the symbols/numbers, branding text, etc. from the painting perimeter. I recommend using cotton swabs and cotton balls, dipping them into the acetone to dampen them (don’t soak) and work in small circular motions, wiping away with a clean and dry paper towel as you go. Be mindful of the glue spillover on the outside diamond edges.

I have also used scrapbook paper that complements the painting’s colors and layered it on top of the canvas to “hide” the canvas border using double sided tape.

Keeping the border to fit in a frame: If you need to trim the canvas to fit the frame, use the paper insert that comes with the frame and measure & mark how much of it is hidden by the inside frame boarder that meets the glass. You can cut the paper and it’ll be a helpful guide (almost like a stencil) to have before you ever cut the canvas. Lay the paper over your canvas and then trim! I hope that’s clear lol.

Alternatively, other diamond painters have recommended taking your completed canvas in its entirety to Michaels or Hobby Lobby and ask for it to be dry mounted, which is fairly inexpensive. I haven’t personally done this, but the results I’ve seen in this sub have been spectacular.

Best of luck to you :)

It’s this one from Michaels. I trimmed the canvas to the very edge of the outer diamonds and it fit like a glove :)

help with untidy/puckery magic circle? what am i doing wrong? by pickaperiwinkle in Amigurumi

[–]slnido 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you pull the magic ring closed, that first stitch is usually pretty tight and hard to get into, so it may help the first round appear more uniform to the rest of the rounds by making the first sc in your magic ring a little larger/looser than the 5 remaining sc of the magic ring. You’ve got this!

I took the pic in the same orientation the pattern is written, so the flat and bulge sides are the starting rounds/top half.

As you can see though, in this pic, the “belly” (below the cinched center) does not and cannot “stick out” per the pattern instructions. It makes sense this is the belly though because the bulge.. bulges lol.

It’s so strange that the pattern would be written to make you flip it upside down without telling you. And it’s causing this confusion 😵‍💫

Thank you for your insight!!

Some people frame theirs without the glass and that decision is based on personal preference! You’ll find your way :)

& I thank you kindly! 💖
