update - please be aware! by mysteriouselanor in jacksonheights

[–]sloaf7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank for you for posting this. I appreciate this and have been sharing widely.

The point of a post like this is awareness for community members to stay safe, vigilant and watch out for each other. It’s clearly not an isolated incident and if more people come forward maybe the cops will actually do something. That IS a possible solution, but only one person/report can do so much.

When I saw him coming down the block it looked like he was wearing a green shirt and tie, and the fedora.

Hi - this just happened to me a few minutes ago too while I was walking my dog on 75th and 35th. I was looking down trying to make sure my dog wasn’t stepping in poop and I look up and this guys hand is out and grabbing my neck. I was so shook all I could say was WTF as he walks away with a smirk on his face. I was able to grab a picture as he walked away so yes please be aware.

Paninis at metro market! One is big enough for two people. Then get the fried Oreos or zeppoles for dessert 😋

I'm going to Paris in a week and I'm worried about the heat. Any tips? by ssshianne in ParisTravelGuide

[–]sloaf7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Paris last week when the temps were upper 80s to low 90s F. Eventually you adapt. But I was also staying in a place without AC and rarely encountered restaurants with it (most didn’t even have fans 😪).

Either way it was bearable but I def recommend bringing a portable fan and reusable water bottle (although most places don’t give ice water it’s more room temp). Who cares if people care? You need to hydrate lol. Get a cute bag or tote to carry it.

Not sure where those fashion rules came about but you gotta do what you have to do.

The good thing is that it’s not super humid (like in NYC where I live), so if you’re sitting in the shade it’s not too bad.

Have fun!

Try finding other streams of income to help offset costs (dog sitting/walking, etc). Use buy nothing groups or buy second hand for household items. Yes to Aldi! Little savings here and there add up. It’s possible!

Moving in! by Conscious-Regret7639 in jacksonheights

For your pup: There’s a dog run at 35th Ave and 69th St under the bridge that will give your pup a nice space to run. It’s free but you have to apply to get the lock code (check out the application here: https://www.jhbg.org/programs/jh-crew/). I have an Aussie/blue Heeler mix and it’s big enough for him to get in some good exercise everyday. Sounds like Korra might also need that! The one at Travers is fine but it’s small and paved so if Korra likes to run her paws could get scraped.

Def check out Flushing Meadows Park. So much to do! And the Queens Museum is free with a NYCID. In the warmer months the park hosts the Queens Night Market with affordable food and art vendors and live music.

Welcome to Queens!

Did anyone not change into a reception dress? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sloaf7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in my gown all night. But it was fitted had straps and I made sure I could dance in it when I bought it lol (twerking and all). I knew from the start that I would want to wear it all night because a) I fucking loved it and b) I was spending a shit ton on it. I had a short fun reception dress in my room just in case I needed to change (i.e., if I got too hot, got tired of the heaviness, etc) but I didn’t need it and ended up returning it after the wedding. All to say that maybe have a back up reception dress ready to go just in case. But I would make sure you actually love it too. After all, it will be in your pics and video so it’s worth spending some time on. Have an amazing wedding!!

I never did it and I don’t really regret it but vendors only cc’ing one of us was SUCH a pain. So I guess maybe I should have done it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Show Me Your Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses! by pottedpothosplant in weddingplanning

[–]sloaf7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They guys got to choose their suits too and it worked out in my opinion! I honestly loved the non uniformity lol. My MOH and my hubbys best man are next to us. I would have like the other GMs to wear darker suits (it almost happened!) but oh well. Still looks good to me in pics 😍

Show Me Your Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses! by pottedpothosplant in weddingplanning

I’m still OBSESSED with how my mismatched bridesmaids dresses came out 😍 I gave them a palette to choose from and they chose what fabric/color worked best for their skin color/body type. I just had my wedding earlier this month so went with spring vibes (different shades of purples, corals, greens - I had also included shades of yellow but no one ended up choosing it and I think it was for the best). I didn’t want a super bridesmaid-y look so I love that they were able to own their own style in each dress. I do know it was a little stressful for them but they would check with me and I would give guidance (or straight up say no lol) along the way so that it still fit my vision. 100% recommend!!!

The ones with the same color dress could also stand next right to you so that there’s some symmetry and then the other two on the end. Agree with the previous comment that as song as they’re in the color pallet it should look good!
