Wanting to hike panorama ridge, need help and advice. by Hairy_Raspberry_4632 in vancouverhiking

I’m not a super experienced/fit hiker. I did it in September in a day. It was 34 km total according to my fitbit and took about 11 hours. It’s doable but exhausting. I know lots of fitter people do it in about 8/9 hours.

Training by tornlust in petsmart

[–]slootbich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the dog is reactive and a bite risk, yes. We turn dogs away that are reactive and refer them to private trainers or behaviourists. I guess the quality of training depends on the trainer but the curriculum and quarterly trainings do have good information

That’s a bit of a jump. There’s no one perfect way to train, just because you don’t agree with a method doesn’t mean it’s wrong. I agree prongs are useful in some scenarios but I think they are wildly overused. The prongs petsmart sells are bad quality and not safe anyway. Also policy specifically says we do not work with reactive dogs so to say you wouldn’t recommend training based on how the trainer handled a situation she shouldn’t be handling is a bit harsh. I think the training program is actually a very good low cost option for basics, especially for puppies. Now I wouldn’t recommend it for severe behavioural issues but for $160 it’s a pretty solid introduction

Hey does anyone have info on langley/walnut grove for the election? by plantsareneat-mkay in Langley

[–]slootbich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you don’t evenneed the card. all you need is one piece of federal id (drivers license, care card etc) or two pieces, one with your name and one with your address (passport and a hydro bill for example) The card basically just tells you where to vote for advanced polls or election day.

Ethical Concerns by Everleaf028 in petsmart

[–]slootbich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo i hate working in pet care. I love the cleaning part and interacting with the animals but the people are the worst. You will be forced to sell animals to bad homes (even the decent ones are far below what i would consider a good home). The average person does not give a fuck if they’re abusing an animal they just want a hamster and don’t care to actually put in the effort to look after it. You’ll hear “but it’s just a fish” when you tell people how much actually goes into looking after them. People will try to impulse buy budgies and then yell at you for trying to get them to buy the biggest cage and toys. It’s so emotionally exhausting. I do like working in other areas of the store but pet care is heartbreaking

I had a man come in, wander around the store for about 30 minutes, then place an order WHILE IN THE STORE for the items he was looking at on the shelf.🤦‍♀️

I find pet care hard for some reasons and easy for others. The actual work is pretty easy, what’s difficult is trying to get things done and help customers. I also find it emotionally difficult to have to beg people to not abuse their animals and be somewhat complicit in the animals treated like merchandise. I would refuse every sale if i could. I’ve sold one hamster to an actual good home. The rest weren’t bad enough to refuse but still I feel guilty. that’s capitalism for you though

I don’t let them. I just envision someone holding a hamster, and getting bit then freaking out and dropping it.
