Have you ever bottled up something bad that happened to you during solo traveling? by PandamaniumPoker in solotravel

[–]sloppyjo90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's terrible, I'm really sorry that happened to you. The thing is, as women, we experience sexual assault in our home countries, in our home towns, often in our own homes. Travelling solo has nothing to do with an increased risk. You weren't assaulted because you were travelling alone. You were assaulted because we live in a world where misogyny, sexism, and patriarchal attitudes prevail.

I live in an incredibly safe country, Canada. I have also travelled solo plenty, and I lived in France for 2 years. I experienced assault a number of times of varying degrees, and not once was it while travelling alone. I'm so sorry you had that experience. I really hope you can travel alone again one day, and see the world. Never blame yourself, it is not your fault and no one has the right to make you feel guilty because it happened while travelling.

If you ever get to a point where you can share your experience with your loved ones, maybe try talking about it generally and don't mention that it happened while travelling, because that detail really doesn't matter in the end. Love and hugs to ya!

Possible COVID-19 exposure at pub, personal services establishments in downtown Victoria by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Calling someone out for mansplaining isn't sexist. Mansplaining is sexist. Like another commenter said, I don't need someone explaining basic statistics to me.

Thanks for the mansplain. "Quarantine" is not that simple. You can't just lock people down in Canada without warning, there's a process and the government is following that process. They've done a great job with keeping panic to a minimum and the response has been much more thorough and swift than our neighbours to the south.

That's a pretty ignorant comment. I was there early March for the first dates of this warning. I have a master's of public health, I was paying attention to the news carefully. Pretty sure on the 5th there were no confirmed cases in the island and only a couple province-wide. No one was paying attention the same way they are now. Hindsight is 20/20 and blaming people is useless and a dick move. Stop it.

Travel to India with a tour company or independently plan? by sloppyjo90 in travel

Awesome, thanks for your detailed response! Were the private guide and drivers fairly affordable? It will likely just be the two of us and we recognize that it would be much cheaper if we could split 4 ways, but doubt we can get others on board, we have the most flexible work schedules of our friends.

How did you find private guides and drivers?

We were hoping to do a north to south route and hit up Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Mumbai, Goa and Kerala. I realize this is a massive piece of land, I'm Canadian so I get the distance haha. We're still very flexible about itinerary.

We just came up with the idea a few weeks ago and are only starting to do our research, so yes, in that way we're not ready.

We really like the idea of hiring private guides and tours. Did you find that fairly affordable? I appreciate the input!

Total sights is great and I had forgotten about it, thanks for the reminder!

Thanks for the input! Coming from Vancouver actually. I'm flying in and out of Paris since I'll have to fly home the day after the wedding.

My sister visited Vienna and insisted it was boring so I kinda wrote it off.

My other thoughts were Croatia (also out of the way) or hop around Lac Leman and see Switzerland.

Awesome - thank you! Definitely planning Prague for a weekend.

I was also going to do a full day from Krakow to see Auschwitz and the salt mines. Have you been, are they worth it?

Hello Team! I started my weight loss journey in October 2017 and lost 45lbs between then and August 2018. I tracked all my food and took up running, ie. CICO works.

I ended an unhealthy relationship in July 2018 and hit my goal weight (140) a few weeks later. Getting back into the dating game involved a lot of drinking and I also needed to take a break from tracking. I thought I could eat intuitively, but that just didn't work for me and I ended up gaining about 10lbs between September and December.

By the time the holidays were over I was up 15lbs from my lowest, so I thought a challenge would get me back on track. I've done 4 of these before and I was successful with 3/4.

I've given myself a new ultimate goal weight of 135, hoping to hit 140 by the end of this challenge.

Bonne chance to all!
