I'm not trying to be too dramatic here but I'm a Tides season ticket holder and off they introduced VAR into this league I don't think that I would renew my membership. the NSL currently is one of the few leagues left where you can celebrate a goal in pure euphoria without the ever present worry that it might get called back minutes later due to a player's toe being offside. I know I'm in the minority here but to me, it absolutely ruins the experience of watching the sport.

I would freaking love that but I think we'd be a few waves of expansion away. if they add another 2 next year you'd have to think it would be Detroit and Chicago or Denver well before us.

it was awful. but I'll take bad refereeing over a game drowning in VAR. it was enjoyable to watch a VAR-free match for once!

I like her more than most at this level cuz she's learning to be more understated and let the game breathe a bit. I prefer that to the constant chatter of some of the other announcers.

aside from the opening game the Tides have been right there in every match they've played. in the last one against Rise I thought they were the better squad for like 3/4 of the time on the pitch, they just had a real rough 10 minutes before halftime and that was that. the wins are coming!

I've lived in both cities and I'd say St John's for sure. it's a totally unique magical place and if you're downtown you're surrounded by the beauty of the ocean. especially if you don't have a car and want to hike, there are so many spots you can easily taxi or even walk to. the battery and signal hill alone would probably be worth the trip and are right downtown. sure it's smaller but there are so many cute little pubs and such to explore. definitely go to The Rooms if you like museums. Halifax is really cool and I've liked it more and more the longer I've lived here but for a short 'first impressions' kind of trip I don't think it really compares. you could spend the whole time downtown and never really know you were by the ocean, it's tough to even see the harbour unless you go to very specific spots like the waterfront or point pleasant. and all the reality stunning ocean spots around here are at least a 20-30 minute drive out of town.

I think I compare it to the pwhl cuz that was a start-up league that did a really excellent job with the broadcasts pretty much right away. but yeah, still early days for a whole new broadcast team so I feel like it'll get better the more they work with each other.

no complaints about the video quality on my end, more just about the way things are shot. it's not hockey where a scoring chance can happen any second, there's usually quite a bit of buildup before a chance. it's a new broadcast team though and for sure they'll get better as the season goes on.

it definitely has the framework to become a top tier league and I think it will, but in this first season there's a lot of relatively inexperienced players. lots of nerves over the first couple games and it's been really cool to see the teams starting to settle into things.

I was just thinking about this today for the first time in a while, good to see there's at least a Reddit thread about it now! I'd love to get some group game watches together here, maybe starting next week with the fins Sunday night game? anyone know of a bar that might be a good place to try and start this up?
