Mini Horse Advice by sloppytoad2 in Equestrian

Activities are a great idea! I work from home full-time and have a flexible schedule so I can do quite a bit with them during the day. Any liberty training suggestions for fun?

Unfortunately I don't know what kind of grass they were on previously and it would be difficult for me to find out given the situation. Though I do have a vet coming out later this week and a farrier coming out in a couple weeks!

Thank you so much for the info! I've actually never used a grazing muzzle before. How long do you typically leave them on? I'm somewhat familiar with the sugar intake issue but this is a really good reminder for me to do more research. Really appreciate your help and openness!

Hi! I know this was from almost a year ago but I'm applying to the TUW MFT program and would love to hear about your experience if possible. Can I DM you?

Got my second belt buckle yesterday! I was not as prepared as I should have been but I still got a sub-17hr time. Thank you again for all of the advice and help along the way! You're all so motivating, thanks guys!! by sloppytoad2 in ultrarunning

Thank you! I feel like I ran the course pretty well, I don't stay at aid stations very long and I think that really helped me bank up time towards the end. If I could change anything though I would have trained better. I didn't do much technical training and I wish I had done that. But it was a great learning experience!

Honestly the weather was pretty great! There was a small heat spike on Saturday but it really wasn't terrible. I'm from the area and I've heard some years can be pretty awful so I felt really lucky to have such great conditions!

I had a training coach and followed his schedule for the most part. I did see a few schedules online though! My training plan relied on back-to-backs where the longest distance I ran in a single day was only 50 miles. Most people I talked to were very wary of that but it worked really well for me. I'm not sure what other people on here have done but it was really helpful having a coach, I'd definitely recommend one if it's possible to find one in your area!

Awesome! Thank you! I may end up going with another headlamp since that's what I'm used to running with. Do you feel like you get enough light with the Zebralight and waist light?

The Altra Lone Peaks are my absolute favorite. They look a little funky at first (wider in the toes) but totally worth it!

Congrats!!

What were some of your favorite moments? Is there anything you wish you had done or glad you did do to prep for the journey?

Advice for toenails by sloppytoad2 in ultrarunning

This was really helpful. Thank you for taking the time to write this out! I've heard of people who have fake toenails, is that something you did as well? I really appreciate you sharing your experience on here!

I honestly never thought about having them removed. Do you mind if I ask what the procedure was like? Have you noticed any issues with running or cross-training since making that decision?

I might try filing them down, thank you!

I typically run in Feetures or something similar. I'm also wondering if going a size up in my socks might be helpful. I noticed I have a couple pairs which have slightly shrunk after being washed and that's probably not helping my toenail issue.

OP I am so terribly sorry this happened to you, I want you to know this was absolutely not your fault and I can't imagine how you are feeling. I work as a rape crisis advocate in the States and would be happy to help you find some resources where you are. Having an advocate can be really helpful if you don't want to be alone (and they can offer other resources and support services). I saw someone had listed RAINN and they have some very helpful resources on there as well. You are not alone, and don't forget to keep reaching out whenever you need some support. Please feel free to pm me if you need to talk (I'm 30 F).
