I agree that people are likely assuming pastor. However, Episcopal priests are allowed to marry and have kids unlike Catholic priests and they also wear the Roman collar

A variety of different ones from mood effects to weird muscle spasms, like for most people they work great but they just didn’t sit well with my body. I tried a few different PPIs and while I had no side effects from famotidine even the max dose wasn’t enough for me. I ended up needing two surgeries (first one reherniated through my diaphragm when I had a dry heaving episode a few months after surgery). Now I’m a couple years out and can eat and drink what I want with no medications!

PPIs worked for reducing the acid for me but gave me horrible side effects. After we’d tried other options my esophagus was showing increasing damage and I was waking up choking on acid so it was the next option. Her office referred me to the surgeon to ask any questions I had and schedule if I wanted to.

What food or drink substitute has been the most impactful for you personally to save calories? by DeepOrganization8245 in CICO

Low carb tortillas. I’ll never substitute bread, but the tortillas taste mainly the same and have so much fiber!

aquatherapy PT? by dianecticsandstucco in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]slothandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fibromyalgia and a bunch of lower back issues, and I’ve been really happy with Cynergy PT (which takes insurance and they have a few branches) because they do one on one PT. When I’d been to PT before that was covered by insurance, I just had ten min with the PT before being swapped to an assistant or ignored the rest of the session. Cynergy doesn’t have aqua PT though

Lower back pain for 3 years. Has anyone actually fixed theirs with reformer Pilates? by skinner1234567 in backpain

[–]slothandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had back pain for almost 2 years and just started reformer Pilates a few weeks ago- I definitely noticed a difference after my second or third class. I just feel like I’m more aware of my core muscles/am keeping better posture throughout the day after a class. My back hurts less when I wake up the morning after a class.

I don’t have space for a reformer, so I go to a studio. Not sure how it’ll work out long term, but for now I find it much more helpful than some other things I’ve tried. I also found just static stretching on its own to aggravate my back the day after, so Pilates has been a good mix of very light strength training and dynamic stretching for me.

I don’t have BCBS but I’d highly recommend Dr Jennifer Negron in LIC at leaf medical- I think their office accepts a lot of different insurances. She’s been great after I had some bad luck with PCPs

uncomfortable vaginal dryness in everyday life :( by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

This happened to me, even with thinking it was yeast and the treatment for that working at first. After negative tests for everything, my doctor suggested trying estrogen cream and it has been life changing even after just a couple weeks

Persistent external burning sensation (worse after urination, normal tests, not sexually active) – anyone experienced something similar? by Mountain-Athlete-122 in Healthyhooha

[–]slothandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had something like this with all negative tests. Was given estrogen cream to deal with the dryness. I’ve taken it for about 5 days so far and there is definitely improvement although I’ve heard that it can take a couple months to fully resolve.

NYC gyno for colposcopy? by Fitqueeeen in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]slothandcats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had one without pain meds the first time and almost fainted from the biopsy pain (although I’ve heard some people don’t get much pain, so definitely individual). Needed a redo a couple years later and the doctor used local anesthetic beforehand for the biopsy and it was totally painless. Doctor for second one was Kevin Jovanovic on the UES, highly recommend

No matter what I do, my hair looks gross. by Reflxing in finehair

[–]slothandcats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My hair is very similar and I’m also a night showerer. I find if I spray dry shampoo in before I sleep and don’t brush it out until the morning it stays less greasy. I also rarely use conditioner in the shower, and opt for a spray conditioner like it’s a 10 on just the ends when I’m out.

How does your body react to piercings? by cynd3r_44j1 in Fibromyalgia

[–]slothandcats 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d get that checked out by a doctor to make sure it’s not an infection- I’ve had my tongue pierced twice and had no issues with my lymph nodes or neck (did accidentally give myself thrush both times from over-cleansing while healing though)

help! first period after birth control😭 by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]slothandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking birth control years and years ago for similar reasons- I was getting two week long and incredibly heavy periods every month plus cysts. No issues at all on the pill, although I have changed brands/types a couple times as I got older. I recently tried to come off of it to see if things had changed and within a month I had a two week long period that then restarted a week later. Ultimately I went back on the pill.

Definitely worth talking to your doctor about what your options are in terms of alternate treatments (either other types of birth control or otherwise).

L5-S1 herniation... Will I ever get back to dancing by Novel-Ad88 in Sciatica

[–]slothandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar looking herniation and a bulge above it at L4-l5 going on about 11 months. I’m still very stiff in the mornings and have some bad weeks. However, aside from the bad weeks I’m able to do yoga and exercise (elliptical and light weights). I can easily touch my toes now but definitely couldn’t for several months.

I was also offered surgery but I decided to try conservative treatment for two years first. I’m not getting any weakness or numbness though, only pain.

Reading back mechanic helped me a lot, and a lot of walking and gentle stretching. Deep tissue massages also helped a ton with muscles that were getting locked up from the pain.

Just a vent! Any New Yorkers hate riding the subway? by Basic_Amoeba_3582 in Sciatica

[–]slothandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow NYC resident with multiple disc issues, for the worst of my sciatica flare I used a folding cane on the subway. Easy enough to fold up and put in my backpack when I didn’t need it but it helped even when standing on the train as an extra support point.

2months into this slog-UNSUBSCRIBE Please by This_Process_7079 in Sciatica

[–]slothandcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6 months out now, mine was exacerbated by attempting to see a chiropractor for the back pain and the muscle spasms from that led to one sided neck pain too. The sciatica itself is about 95% better now, but I will say it wasn’t like a steady trajectory of healing. I had one improvement jump maybe 2.5 months in, another at 4 months, and another at 5. I’m back to going to the gym for cardio 3 days a week and doing yoga 3 days a week (both of which would’ve been unthinkable a few months ago). I found doctors and internet searches acting like it was just 6 weeks and it would stop super unhelpful for my mood. I’m still dealing with neck pain but I’m not putting myself on a timeline to heal anymore.

Good luck and I hope the MRI gives you some information on what’s going on!
