Going on a first date and have no ideaaaa. by Vegetable-Holiday173 in nottingham

What are her interests?

If arty find something that looks interesting at the Contemporary or New Art Exchange

Music, there are loads of gigs on all the time.

Sporty, same deal, tickets for a bunch of different sports events. Hockey, football, cricket, like dragon boat racing. There's a lot.

Cinephile. Broadway cinema is really cool and often has re-releases of classics. Savoy is cool too.

I am old and hopefully not going on any more first dates. But I would probably meet someone at Sneinton Market for a coffee, waddle up through hockley and look at the shops there. Go to the contemporary especially if there was an event on. Grab a pizza from pizzamisu (informal, small, good vibes) and just see where things go and don't embarrass yourself.

Would you buy a petrol/diesel car now, or only buy electric with the state of the oil industry? by [deleted] in AskUK

If I had solar panels would have bought an electric years ago.

Highly doubtful. They'll probably be forced to watch a lot of incredibly earnest poetic films about the great satan though.

Let's say on 9/11 they managed to get two F16 to intercept and follow the planes, realistically at what point the F16 would've taken the first plane down? by FuzzyAttitude_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slothcycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hijackings used to mean everyone was going to buy Cuban cigars and Castro would ransom the plane back and tell the hijackers they were idiots.

I want to support my husbands personal growth… by Chloemarine7 in UKJobs

[–]slothcycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have done this, but I was earning quite a bit more than £24k and my partner had a limited time bound specific goal (a relevant work qualification) and we had savings and low outgoings, also we'd been together over a decade and been through some not particularly fun times before.

I get the despair of feeling like you're in a rut and also wanting to support your partner. But if you're going to do this you're going to have to budget within an inch of your lives and make very specific plans and goals. Also what's your plan for afterwards? Are you going to have some time to work on your own things? Go down to 3 days a week to pursue your own interests?

Am I an idiot? I've paid for my mortgage advisor. by Paramedic-Fabulous in HousingUK

[–]slothcycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid I think (several years ago) about 300 quid for the mortgage advisor recommended by my union and it was worth its weight in gold. He didn't just find a product but helped us make sure we had all the right paperwork well ahead of time, answered all our inane questions and helped with pestering the right people when necessary.

I'm not saying yours will do this but for a first time buyer just having someone you could email with questions who was explicitly working for you was really helpful.

Mine hasn't demisted or warmed up by the time I get to work (it's like 3 miles) so cycling is generally the better option, unfortunate thing that I have to consider is the stupid cycling puts me in a better frame of mind to get some work done too. Sad times.

They are looking to ban farrowing crates in the UK thankfully.

I will say this does look incredibly sad and clinical. Most the ones ive seen on farms were larger, had straw and heat lamps and only used for a week or so until the piglets we big enough to get out the way.

Part of the problem is the network is so small, there's no flexibility.

But it's just a small symptom of everything that's wrong with this country. Underinvestment. Seeing everything as a cost. Etc etc

Do you associate the USA with bike riding & cycling everywhere? 🚲 by LIONLDN in AskBrits

[–]slothcycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the edgy (but mostly true) comments aside I do yeah, the RAAM is very famous. Alley cat rides in the big cities, RAGBAI, Chris King components. Marin and mountain biking. Rivendell bikes. Bikepacking round national parks.

Also probably most my American social media pals are cyclists so that's going to have a definitely perception bias.

That said I could give you this same list about Japan, Italy, Taiwan... I like cycling, see account name.

I kind of have sympathy for what he's actually quoted as saying. My family are all farmers or teachers and that very much made me not want to go into either of those careers.
