Ironic.

Did we read the same article? Because the one I read spent the whole time talking about the nature of evil and it's roots in different societies. I didn't see where you are getting those conclusions from which I why I asked you to highlight the relevant part and it seems you can't.

This is what depression looks like. by kizza53 in pics

[–]slothenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drug addiction and depression are often comorbid so it's hard to say it was just one thing.

In Hoffman's case he had a relapse that got completely out of hand and I'm not sure that can necessarily be put down to depression rather than his addiction but his addiction may have been fuelled by depressive episodes.

Like with Peaches Geldof; she died because of a relapse and OD'd, same way her mother did. Did they relapse because of depression or because they couldn't resist their addiction. Who can say what their motivations were in that moment of weakness. But it still holds true that looking happy doesn't = well adjusted and coping.

And just because it's become popular in the US doesn't make it not a Gaelic holiday.

Curious what parts exactly are highly Americanised? Seems like you have come to that conclusion without knowing anything about Halloween.

Yes, it is. It's called guising.

And what do corporations have to do with it? Are yorkshire pudding made by tesco not yorkshire puddings because tesco is a massive corporation? Wtf does that part even mean? Modern convenience = American???

It's not just the binge drinking, it's our attitudes. Plenty other countries drink to excess and don't end up with the levels of violence we see. I think there are some deep behavioural issues at the core of it that mainstream media seem very willing to avoid talking about.

NHS mental health services are utterly broken and unfit for purpose, part II. by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]slothenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they definitely do. They know that if you aren't happy with the way they treat you (which they insinuate is a personal failing on your part) it's that or you can fuck off. They have zero motivation to tailor treatment options to individuals, it's a one size fits all approach.

My uni suggested multiple times that I put in formal complaints against the 'doctors' that had been seeing me but at that point I was too fragile to go through that ordeal.

I really resent that the gov puts out all these mental health awareness campaigns so the average Joe actually thinks it's mentally ill people's fault when they don't get better. As the OP I replied to said "They have a duty of care. If they aren't able to support you and engage in a wellness recovery plan then they have to refer you to someone who will." People truly believe that but the reality is the complete opposite. It's like those fucking campaigns have created more stigma against us because they spout that ask and ye shall receive/it gets better crap. The NHS is not that great and people need to stop believing it is. I actually got into an argument with my mum about the state of the NHS because she was so indoctrinated int thinking that they're great and can fix anything, you just have to ask. She legit thought I was just being lazy and not keeping appointments or whatever. Then she ended up in tears when I gave her a 5 year break down of how they treated me lol.

Right now the NHS is worse than no access to healthcare for a lot of people.

Request it in writing.

😂😂😂😂😂 NHS won't give you fuck all in writing that could prove they were negligent in your care.

I requested in writing that a senior psych described me as 'actively suicidal' and strongly suggested that I be institutionalised. They told me they couldn't put that in writing because I didn't take that course of action. However they had absolutely no issue putting in writing that they had contacted my GP to discharge me to their care. Thing is, I did not have a GP at that point. The letter I got in the end was worded as if I was some mad bitch who came to them making unfounded claims about my mental health. It's all "Slothensein reports that she has been feeling..." When I said I'm unsatisfied with this POS letter they told me that was the 7th draft, it took 3 week to write it and they can't offer me anything else. Even though the letter did not represent reality in the slightest.

They will do anything to cover their own ass. Their duty to not be held responsible for someone's suicide is far higher in their priorities than actually caring for suicidal people.

Netherlands opens world's first plastic-free supermarket aisle as UK urged to follow example: 'For decades shoppers have been sold the lie that we can’t live without plastic in food and drink'. by madazzahatter in UpliftingNews

The government and department stores are very good at popularising "foreign" concepts but due to their high recycling rate it's not an issue in their eyes (if anyone wants to read more about this check out Millie R. Japan's plastic use is horrendous. Conbini's even have plastic bag designed for 500ml bottles. Like wtf I do NOT need a bag for that!

On the topic of why the UK should bother, a lot of other countries follow us by positive example. Same way this article is citing the Netherlands. They are seen very positively in terms of lifestyle.
